Pouring into my Sam's Pint, it poured brilliantly yellow with a slight hint of orange sunset. Beautiful white head that I watched diminish into fine lacing on the glass.
The aroma is citrus; orange and apicots, some yeast and light malts. I tried to muster other spices with this one, but to no avail.
The initial taste was much like the aroma; driven by citrus and lighter malts, with perhaps a hint of coriander and meadowy spices. I expected something more along these lines here; I've seen well spiced beers with Sam Adams, and this could definitely be made stronger. Tangy finish is more spicy than hoppy.
As you progress through the beer, the malt notes fade and more of the spices can be felt; some cinnamon, persimmon, a hint of cloves. This definitely improves beyond the first sip, which is a meritable quality in good beer.
Mouthfeel was soft and creamy. Overall, a pleasant beer, but not an offering that would otherwise classify as 'spectacular'; sublimely drinkable, more interesting than most, a worthy witbier from Sam's.
