A- It starts out great. Really bright orange to light orange color. Nice fluffy white head hangs around nice.

S- It is bready and biscuity. I went on an APA kick here and looking at notes, notice that several APA's hang around that malty side.

T- Just a total bust here. bready bready bready malts. Terrible hop flavor if you even wanna call it that. I really hate this taste.

M- It is lighter bodied. Carbonated well.

O- it is from a big time company so the color and mouthfeel is right. It's the taste that sucks. Won't revisit you. I enjoy Sam Adams stuff. But not this.

12 oz bottle dated best before March 2011 poured into a tulip pint glass.

Pours a clear rich golden with a thick off white head.

Taste is slightly floral, metallic, lightly sweet and lemony.

Taste is nice balance between mellow floral hops and biscuity malts. Nice.

Mouthfeel is very good and this is a very drinkable beer.

A nice beer, wish it was available year round.

Drinking Date: Feb 1, 2011
Best-by Date: Jan. 2011

Glassware: tulip-shaped chalice

Appearance: orange-gold colored and bubbly; dense, not clear. Poured a big frothy head that retained fairly well and left some lacing. Nice looking brew.

Smell: The aroma is sweet and refreshingly clean.

Taste: A light bitterness opened the flavor which was then followed by a burst of fruity sweetness that constituted the main taste of the brew. It finished with a slight alcohol taste that cleansed my taste buds. An overall balanced flavor, semi-complex with a pleasant sweetness.

Mouthfeel: The beer was almost medium-bodied. It filled the mouth with some heaviness but was not thick or chewy. good bit of carbonation.

Drinkability: The continuously interesting, but not powerful, taste and the fairly light body make this a great beer to have several of in one sitting.

Notes: Recommended. An overall solid, good-tasting, dependable brew. Will purchase again.

A - This beer pours a pale golden color. It has a 1/2 inch white foamy head on it. The head left some good lacing behind.

S - It smells of pale malts and some citrus. The smell is crisp and clean.

T - The taste is of light sweet malts and a subtle hoppiness. There is some citrus present in the finish. It has a clean taste, but it is lacking in depth and character.

M - It has a light body and prickly carbonation. It is smooth and goes down fairly easy.

D - This has decent drinkability. It is light and easy to drink, but it doesn't have the best flavor. It's an alright beer, but there are plenty of better pale ales out there.

A- Nice golden color, descent creamy white head and sea foam lace.

S- Lemony, citrus and sweet malts. Balanced out well.

T- Biscuit, lemon, citrus and balanced well.

M- Light, crisp, and smooth

D- Very easy to drink, nice balance with slight edge to hops over nice biscuit malt.

Appearance: This sample poured with a nice clear copper color. Little to no head and lace with this bottle.

Smell: Nice hop aroma, but the other components of beer are missing.

Tatse: A nice balance between malt and hops.

Mouthfeel: Medium body with a nice level of carbonation.

Drinkability: A very drinkable brew that can be consumed all night of with most foods. I bet this one is dynamite with pizza.

Stopped by my parents and saw my dad had replaced his normal Rolling Rock with a 12 of these.Stole one from him and took some notes. I think the teacher maybe taking a lesson from the student.

Hazy Golden Amber almost no head with a scattered lacing.

The nose is sweet tangy and malty. Faint citrus and some mild fruits.

Smooth and light mouth feel. Taste is grassy malts with a lemon/citrus backing. Puts a nice tingle on your tongue with the lemon malty flavor lingering. The hops don't really leave a lot of bitterness but I feel they really help everything else come out.

Could easily drink a 6 of these.

12 oz bottle. Pours golden with a small white head, lovely carbonation. Aroma of floral hops, biscuit malt with some citrus and pear notes. Light to medium, slightly crisp body. Flavor of biscuit malt, ripe fruit with earthy hops come through in the long dry finish. Decent English Pale.

Poured from 12 oz bottle into snifter.

A - Beer is a medium golden color and crystal clear. Creamy, solid white head made of tiny bubbles; lots of lacing. Very attractive pale ale.

S - Interesting smell. I get some malt, but mostly a nutty, earthy smell that I believe is the hops. This is listed as a British style pale, so I was not expecting Northwest US hops aroma, but this is not like the British pale ale aromas I remember, either. I don't get any fruitiness or alcohol.

T - This has a round malt taste along with some of the earthy, savory taste of the hops. The bitterness is noticeable, but fairly low. No yeast notes or alcohol taste.

M - Medium body, little carbonation fizz. There is some mouthcoating in the end that gives an odd "dusty" sensation.

D - This is a fairly drinkable beer. It is very different from what I picture as a British pale ale, but still enjoyable. I would enjoy it more with some crisper hops and maybe some British yeast fruitiness.

12oz bottle poured into tulip.

A - Pours a deep, golden, amber and grows a 2-fingered frothy, creamy, snow white head. Lots of carbonation can be seen replenishing the head so that a couple centimeters stick around throughout. Beautiful lacing; seriously, this lacing is a 360 degree coating of the entire glass.

S - Smell is mild and bland, however. Not much in the way of fruit esthers or hops. On the contrary, I'm getting a lot of grain and malts. That's pretty much it. Not complex or deep in the least.

T - Taste unfortunately follows the nose to a T on this one. Fruits and pine are almost non-existent. Some cereal taste and breadiness, and some light bitterness is the only cry towards a Pale Ale. Disappointingly simple and flavorless.

M - Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a ton of carbonation. Unfortunately the carbonation has no flavors to propel around the mouth.

D - Drinkability is low. What began as a beautiful beer turned out to be a wolf in sheep's clothing. The only popping characteristic of this beer is the bitterness at the end, which is unacceptable. Shame.

12 ounce bottle poured into a pint glass.

A white head that dissipates quickly. The beer itself is a foggy yellow quite fizzy with bubbles. leaves a healthy dose of lacing on the glass.

Not much in the way of smell. Maybe I'm missing something but I smell very light hops and malts, very faint. Kind of shocked for Samuel Adams, usually they emphasize on smell; the way they design their glasses is for your nose to enter the glass as you taste the beer.

Some carbonation seems light and smooth. Leaves the mouth kind of dry.

It has that signature Samuel Adams taste. I don't know what it is, but I can always tell it's a Sam Adams. Its not bad. Light hop flavor and malty background. Slightly bitter.

Drink Ability: Its pretty light for not being a light beer. Doesn't seem heavy at all, which is always good. Would I want more than one? Maybe two, but they're so many other beers to try!

I did finally realize there was a pleasant odor halfway through, so it saves some points in the aroma department . It smelled more malty, to me, than hoppy. Overall, its good. If they had it on tap at a bar I'd have one.

Honey colored, with great clarity. Limited head formation. Smells
of mild cereal grains, faint smokiness and very mild hops citrus. Taste is very reserved, some corn tastes upfront, but moves to a nicely mellow hops and mushy banana. Spicy, almost cinnamon finish. A little bland and cheap tasting, but certainly a good first "decent beer" experience. Feel is average, more body than most mainstream beers, more flavor and more to experience.

Appearance is a misty golden orange with a fair head that dissapates, but not totally leaving nill lace. Smell of light sweet caramel malts, citrus and hops. Taste has the caramel sweetness with light body and hops. Mouthfeel is light with good carbonation. Not a big bodied, complex pale ale, but good nonetheless.

Poured from a 12 ounce bottle into a Samuel Adams Perfect Pint glass. Best before DEC 2010 notched on label.

Appearance: Pours a hazy yellow/light caramel color with a 2 finger fluffy white head. Nice lacing.

Smell: Sweet floral and citrus hops with a light malt profile in the background. Fairly weak aroma.

Taste: Sweet citrus up front followed by biscuity malt in the middle and ending with bitter lemon peel at the finish. Aftertaste is light and mildly bitter. Flavor is lighter than expected.

Mouthfeel: Light-to-medium-bodied with a high amount of carbonation. Goes down pretty smooth.

Drinkability: Very good drinkability. You could drink several of these without much difficulty.

Overall: Pretty good beer overall. Not Samuel Adams' best offering by any means but it's a decent English Pale Ale. The aroma and flavor could stand to be a bit more robust but it isn't a deal breaker. It's worth a try.

Comes out a light copper color with below average head. Aroma is faint floral hops, really smells like Saaz and Tetenang stuff.

Taste is very much a light pale ale. Very light. More flavor than BMC, but clearly the next level, a better introduction to beer. Carbonation seems high on the palate compared with the appearance. Dry, typical Sam Adams underhopping (even for an English style pale) and lemon flavor. Another underwhelming effort from SA.

12oz bottle picked up in a mixed sixer from Total Wine. Poured into a pint glass. Pours a much lighter than expected pale gold. This looks like a lager. A small finger-width white head on top. Light lacing left behind. Scents of honey, flowers, jello, and faint fuggle hops.

Good crisp ale here. Carbonation level is good, finishes clean. This has great flavor. Excellent balance between the bittering hops and a smooth sweet finish. Floral notes noted in the flavor, as well as some apple notes. This surprised me. I wasn't expecting much, but this is as accessible of a Pale Ale as one can get. A spot in the fridge is set aside for this one from now on.

I bought a 12pack Sam Adams sampler at Woodman's in Janesville, WI for about $9 in late summer 2010.

Sam Adams Pale Ale is probably one of their more bitter beers but it still has that delicious full body taste and smooth texture that Sam Adams is know for. I should mention that even though it does have that bitter taste, the bitterness still doesn't compare to that of say Stone's IPA. I would call this a good bar beer to have 1 or 2 of.

A- Apricot orange with a creamy two finger white head. Retention is good and a big pillow stays atop the ale. A sufficient coat of lace on the glass.

S- Pretty hop forward. Tropical citrus, floral and earthy. Some light biscuit caramel malt as well. Overall the strength could be better.

T- Starts out with a lot of floral notes and caramel malt. Finishes with a big citrus zest note balanced by a nice bready malt profile. A little buttery hint.

MF- Light, highly carbonated body. A bit creamy, on par in what you would expect in the style. Some bitterness and a fairly dry finish.

DB- Nice malt and hop flavors and certainly refreshing. Sam Adams makes a lot of solid beers with nice flavors. Maybe just a tad too hoppy and bitter for the substance of this one.

I was never a fan of Sam Adams Pale Ale. Not by a longshot. It looks good and all with nice color and a somewhat lacey head, but it falls short in the taste department. It's not very flavorful to begin with and what little flavor is present is quite disagreeable to my palate. It's just bready with an offensive skunkiness. Not sure why they still make this. This will probably be the last chance I give this beer.

From a bottle to a pint glass...
The beer looks yellow-orange, white head, webby lacing.
Smells of toasted malt, had a hint of earthy hops.
It tastes bready, had a hint of lemon pepper.
Feels light, leaves the mouth a little dry.
Nothing outstanding here, pretty average pale ale.

Very pale, with a pretty white head. A fingers plus, and it's gone fast. Slight lacing.

Smell is very slightly citrus, but mostly bready, biscuity malts. Hint of sweetness.

Taste is a bit more sharp with the bitterness, but there is more the sweet malts showing up. It's a less frequented take on the style, but it's not bad at all though.

Feel is a little light, decent carbonation, and slightly slick.

Average drink. A sort of bland, not exciting rendition.

I love this beer. It pours to a nice head that sticks to the glass all the way down. Th e smell is definetly of hops and malts. The taste is great it has a great balance of hops and malts, with a medium mouthfeel and one hell of a drinkablility. I really recommend you try this Pale Ale you will truly be satisfied.

Light, coppery golden with a smooth, lumpy white head. Sweet, toasty malt and mild herbal English hops in the aroma. Lightly toasted and caramel tasting malt with some minty and citric hop bittering to balance. Light bodied with prickly carbonation. This is a fine example of an English style PA but a little more flavor concentration would help as it is slightly underwhelming.

Pours a hazy tan with a 3/4 inch head. Medium bodied and creamy but really not much flavor to comment on. In fact I'd say this is just a tiny step up from standard mass produced beers like the Bud Lights of the world (or the Sam Adams Lights for that matter, in fact I'd choose this over a SA Light). Granted it is a Pale Ale so it naturally would be more subtle than a lot of other beers.
