Clear brown colored ale with a small tan colored head.

Smell is sweet with caramel scent on toasted bread. Slight coffee scent and the scent of hazel nuts. Little bit of chocolate scent, smells like Nutella on toast.

Starts out dry and yeasty. Mild chocolate, nuts and a little caramel. Mildly bitter. Tastes like nuts.

Mouthfeel is good.

Overall average, not a favorite.

12oz Bottle from CJ's Potsdam NY for 2.50$

Appearance - Clear dark brownish red colour with an average size fizzy beige coloured head. There is an average amount of carbonation and there is some fair lacing. The head lasted for around 4 minutes.

Smell - Malts, nuts, toffee

Taste & Mouth - There is an above average amount of carbonation and I can taste malts, caramel/toffee, and hazel nuts. There is also a hint of chocolate and some faint hops. It ends with a malty sweet aftertaste.

Overall - A very solid beer that I would drink again. It has an interesting taste that makes it worth picking up to try at least once..

12oz bottle poured into a snifter. Best by Jan.

A: Pours a clear ruby brown with a frothy 2 finger white head. Some visible carbonation, decent lacing on the glass.

S: I get the hazelnut and plenty of roasted malt. Definitely some carmel, chocolate and toffee in there. A little fake smelling.

T: As with the smell there is certainly some hazelnut in this brew. A little lackluster in its depth. Mostly get the malt and nuttiness from it.

M: Light to medium body, a little watery and thin. A brew like this needs some more creaminess.

Overall its not a bad beer by any stretch, just could use some more character. Fits well in the mix pack but I wouldnt seek this out.

A: pours a dark bronze/ brown color just like a good brown ale should.

S: can smell a small amount of toffee/ caramel sweetness. Whats there is good but it is somewhat faint.

T: very sweet caramel and toffee taste, just like the smell but much stronger.

M: little carbonation and pretty thin, fairly standard for a brown ale.

O: very solid brown ale overall one of the best offerings from Sam Adams that I have had.

A- Hazel Brown? Nailed it. Very brother with a nice white frothy head that laces well

S- Lots of brown, just a little bit of hazel. Sadly Not getting as much hazelnut as I'd like out of the nose

T- Everything the nose leaves off the mouth takes advantage of. Tons of hazelnut flavoring here. Loving this

M- Could be smoother but nothing wrong with where it is

O- Very very tasty. Probably my favorite out of the Mix pack

12 oz.

Pours a reddish brown with an eggshell inch head, slow dissipation.

Smells of lightly toasted grains, caramel, buttered bread and nuts.

Slightly toasty and brown sugar sweet with a whisper of hazelnut and some mildly bitter dry hoppiness. Cocoa in the finish.

Medium body with soft carbonation over the tongue.

A drinkable and enjoyable brown ale with just a hint of hazelnut, this is pretty good and enjoyable. Though its not groundbreaking, I can't think of another brown ale that is really leaps and bounds ahead of it. Certainly worth having.

S - hazelnut with sweet toffee.

T - sweeter tasting brown ale with lots of hazelnut flavor.

F - medium bodied, crisp and refreshing.

O - good fall beer.

12oz bottle poured into a snifter.

A: Dark mahogany brown with a half a finger of white head. Lacing is minimal and carbonation is medium by the looks of it.

S: Freshly brewed hazelnut coffee with a slightly spicy side to it. They definitely hit the nail on the head with the aroma for this one, it smells awesome.

T: The hazelnuts hit the palette first followed by a dark coffee roast flavor. Slightly sweet malts play backup and don't overpower the brew. Just enough hop bitterness to keep it interesting. Not picking up the spiciness that I got on the nose, but I'm not deducting points for that. This is pretty solid.

M: Medium carbonation with a long and lingering hazelnut coffee finish.

O: I've always had a problem with SA, but I'm starting to respect them more in recent times. This is definitely the best one I've ever had by them (followed by Norse Legend, which is also very solid) and I would love to see six packs or bombers of this, but that's probably not going to happen. The one gripe I have with SA is that I HATE buying their variety packs just to get two beers of a style I want to try. Fucking take out the Boston Lager and the other year round and keep it to the seasonal varieties!

I just ripped Samuel Adams for their Pumpkin Beers and their safe approach with a lack of flavors in recent years. This also is a quiet beer, but Hazel Brown has a nice smooth sweet nutty flavor and texture that some may love. I merely like. This is a subtle beer. The flavor will not overwhelm you.

This is a good fall beer. Nice job Sam. Hey guys maybe a little less in the number of varieties and a little more quality. You're starting to behave like a macro beer company throwing shit at the wall to see what sticks.

So what goes with Hazel Brown? I recommend a dose of Bach's music.
