A: Pours a hazy gold with a big, creamy white head that leaves a modest amount of lacing once it settles.

S: Ripe blueberries hit the nose first, and are eventually followed by subtler scents of lemon, lime, grass, straw, herbs, cream, and biscuit.

T: Notes of minerals, ripe blueberries, lemon, lime, fresh herbs, grass, straw, grain, light butter, cream, crackers, and biscuit flit across the palate. The finish is short and straight-forward with notes of blueberry highlighted by biscuit, minerals, and very mild lemony hops.

M: Light in body and relatively dry. Carbonation is nice and crisp. A treat to drink on a hot day.

O: Not a bad fruit beer at all and I tend to be a bit wary of the fruit beers Samuel Adams produces. It isn't deep, complex, or terribly exciting, but Blueberry Hill Lager definitely hits the spot on a hot day. I definitely would not turn this down and would probably seek it out again.

Poured into a Sam Adams glass.

Color is a pale hazy yellow with lots of bubbles. Initial head was about an inch, that dissolved quickly to a thin layer of bubbles with moderate lacing.

Smell is blueberries. Period. My wife smelled "beer", but she says that about all beers. To me, all I could really discern was the berries, almost as if I was smelling a bowl of them.

Taste is like the smell. Blueberries, with a slight bitterness in the back. Not overpowering, but takes a few sips to get used to it.

Mouthfeel is good enough, not to thin, not too thick. Pleasant enough to dink.

Overall an ok brew, not sure if I would buy it in a six pack. I'm not against fruit beers ( I love the Cherry Wheat, and I'm a HUGE fan of pumpkin ales) but I don't think ALL fruit should be used in beer.

A- great shade of hazy orange amber with a big sticky dense white head with a tint of yellow. Retention and lacing are outstanding for the style. Thick sheets blanket the glass. Creamy foam isn't moving. The head retains itself until the beer is gone. No etchings on this old school beer glass either. You know, the kind with hops printed around the rim and a horse drawn carriage by the rim. Yeah.

S- fresh ripe blueberry aroma fills my square as soon as the bottle is cracked and more so after it's been poured. Some citric floral hops behind that with nutty grainy aromas. This is like blueberry cracked out alpine spring honestly. Exceptional.

T- taste is somewhat lacking compared to all the other great aspects of this beer. The blueberry part is fine- not overpowering, not candyish, but the flavor of the beer itself doesn't match up. Honey sweetish malts combined with cracker and lightly bitter noble hops that do little to combat the sweetness. What a shame. Blueberry fades leaving only a lingering of the skin in the finish with more sweetness and earthy hops.

MF- this is like almost nitro creamy. Being unfiltered amps up the body on this one out to the space station. Powdery yeast, slight tannins.

D- too bad for the subpar flavor, this beer had a lot going for it. Everything else hit the spot though.

12 oz bottle marked best before November. Beer pours very cloudy and yellow in color, with a thin white head. Serious aroma -- smells like opening a box of blueberry muffins -- would be great if it was time for breakfast, but as a beer it's kind of a turnoff. Fortunately the berries are mostly in the nose, not the flavor. Flavor is mild and mostly of a citrusy kind of lager, with a gentler hint of blueberry. Not terribly sweet for a fruit beer, though this is obviously no lambic.

As far as the Sam Adams Beers of Summer variety pack goes, this is, surprisingly, a stand out hit. Not a great beer, but at least it delivers what it promises.
