12 oz. bottle, with the label notched at best before March 2014. Another seasonal release from Samuel Adams, acquired as part of the winter variety twelve pack. The third beer from the variety pack this year to be brewed with cinnamon and orange peel, with nutmeg replacing the ginger. Expectations are fairly low, I remember being unimpressed with this offering last year, but I'll give it another go.

Poured into a Houlihan's pint glass.

A - Pours two fingers of soft white fizz, audibly sizzling away. Body is a light lemon-orange colored body with tons of active carbonation freaking out in the glass. Looks alright for what it is.

S - Smell is of dusty grains, bubblegum malt, fizzing soapy carbonation, and some orange juice zest. Not doing anything for me.

T - Taste follows the nose: grainy wheat, bubblegum malt, some dry spice probably from the cinnamon & nutmeg but to me it tastes more like ginger zest, and some lightly citric orange creamsicle. The orange tastes slightly artificial, and the rest of the beer has a pretty poor depth of flavor. Again, not doing it for me.

M - Feel goes down soft, smooth, wet, and creamy. Light-bodied with good carbonation.

Overall, I found this to be a pretty bland and uninspired offering from Samuel Adams. Witbiers aren't my favorite style to begin with, but this still has to be one of the less interesting examples of the style that I've had. One of the lesser beers from the variety pack; I would almost prefer the Samuel Adams Chocolate Cherry Bock over this one.

A: Golden straw with a white lacing. The beer is hazy and can't be seen through due to it being unfiltered.

S: Cinnamon, orange peel, ginger, and it has the same smell like a Hacker Pschorr or other Hefeweizen beers so you naturally get the clove, banana, and bubblegum smell. The smell is fantastic and they are all crystal clear.

T: Banana, cinnamon, ginger, some bubblegum as well. You get some hop taste mid palate but the cinnamon spices come in to give you a new flavor. Overall a very smooth, light and drinkable beer with plenty of flavor. This would go great with a meal in the holidays when you don't want something as filling as a stout or a porter.

MF: Light mouth feel with a semi-dry finish. Doesn't feel too carbonated either.

O: This is a great light and smooth beer to have when you're having a meal or just want something refreshing that still has a lot of flavor. Definitely a nice beer to add to your winter beer selections (though it can easily fit in a harvest collection as well).

Pours a nice yellow amber with a half finger head that quickly dissipates. Smells like the spices of cinnamon and orange peel and less if none of the nutmeg. Nice spicy aromatic smell initially that on later smells is not perceptible. Same with the taste. After the first couple of sips the taste becomes nondescript. The initial aromatic taste is quickly gone after your palate gets used to it. Had a clean and refreshing taste with some bitterness at the end. You get a tiny hint of orange peel but not much. Tastes like a regular beer to me. Nice crisp and refreshing beer that is fairly reminiscent of winter.
