I inherited a bottle because my daughter bought a variety twelvepack of six different and did not like this one.

Poured from the 12 oz. bottle into a Samuel Adams Nonick.

a: Hazy gold with a finger thick white head which dissipated to thin surface foam and a little lacing.

s: Mild indeterminate spice.

t: Light malt under very subtle cinnamon and perhaps more. Dry finish.

m: Light to moderate.

o: Not bad as a dinner accompaniment (spaghetti and meatballs), but not a whole lot of flavor. The young bar crowd that is not into craft should find this at least slightly different. Probably would be a little better suited as a pre-Halloween offering. By December I'm wanting something dark that tastes like dark beer.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a light yellowish gold color, with a short white head that fades quickly and leaves a thin lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains a lot of spices, citrus, wheat, light caramelized malts and a touch of hops.

T: The taste starts out sweet with strong flavors of spice and citrus. Then some breadiness comes in from wheat, Belgian yeast and a hearty but not too heavy malt character. The hops presence is mild but complementary and brings some balance. The after-taste is slightly sweet and slightly bready.

M: Smooth and a little crisp, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

O: A little tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, mild kick, decent representation of style, this is a typical Sam Adams spice-laden lighter beer.

My brother brought these over, had it poured from the bottle into a weizen glass, the 8th beer I've reviewed from Sam. I think the winter whear beer is a tricky thing to execute, want to get enough spices in there such that no one would confuse it for a summer, without going overboard. Hazy yellow color and soft white head. Obvious notes of citrus and spice, particularly nutmeg. Nice when you want a winter beer that might not weigh you down too much. I think it's a bit underrated on here, good stuff.
