Just as the label says, spices and citrus peel with an excellent aftertaste. One of my all time favorites. I thoroughly enjoyed it. How long do these comments have to be before the bros at beer advocate will accept it??? I'm not the best taste analyzer so have mercy on me ba!

From twelve ounce bottle freshness dated to June 2013.

Aroma of citrusy spices, very pleasant on the nose. Pours a hazy medium yellow, with white but, very short lived head. Spotty lacing. Taste is crisply spicy and refreshing. Coriander and sweetgrass with a touch of lemon zest. Slightly sour finish.

Pours a nice hard copper color. Nice head but dissipates quickly. Scents of orange peel, and coriander spices on the nose. Non see through appearance. Quick burst of tingling fruity goodness on the initial sip with that same tingling moving from the front to back of the tongue. Very smooth and slightly tart. A bit thin, but true to the style. Smooth and easy drinking. Good session beer especially for spring and summer. Similar to the original "white ale" by samuel adams. Better than I expected. Loved the original white ale and this may be just as good. A well crafted, flavorful stab at the Belgian style.

It pours a beautiful hazy gold with a white head. The head has nice retention. lacing doesn't really kick in until there is just a thin layer of foam atop the beer. The aroma is full of intense orange and the tangerine is noticeable. Corriander and malt are definitely present as well. The taste pretty follows the aroma. lots of orange and hints of malt. The corriander kind of gets lost among teh muck here, as it is slightly citrusy. It has a moderate mouthfeel, although it is refreshing. The carbonation is light and relatively gentle. I love it. It's not too simple and it's not so complex that you get lost in a jungle of aroma and flavor. This beer knows what it is. Highly recommended.

Another score from my recent visit to Highland Pizzeria. I promise to write a Place review once they finish their renovation sometime in late-Spring/early-Summer. In the meantime, they are worth at least a visit.

From the bottle: "Belgian-style white ales have a long history of unique ingredients as brewers experimented with spices discovered during the spice trade. For our hazy brew, we found a refreshing combination of crisp wheat, the tangy sweetness of tangerine & orange peel, and the subtle spiciness of coriander & Grains of Paradise. Cheers! [undersigned] Jim Koch".

I dislike the possibility that I might have left anything in the bottom of the bottle with such styles, so I am a king of agitation. In this case, it resulted in a dense, fluffy finger of bone-white head with great retention that allowed me to ensure that I had emptied the bottle. Clarity was indeed hazy, not cloudy, so I give them props for truth in advertising and the color was an orangish-yellow. Nose really gave off orange (peel) and tangerine and I was anxious to compare this to the previous beer that I reviewed of the same style. Mouthfeel was big and full, not overly carbonated, but more creamy. In fact, the taste reminded me of a Dreamsicle/ Creamsicle, which was the frozen novelty that consisted of a vanilla ice cream center enrobed by orange sherbert. I used to love them as a kid in the summertime. Ah, nostalgia while drinking beer. There is nothing better. I finally got the spiciness on the finish, but they really dialed it in to the point that it did not interfere with the orange. I have had wits that tasted and felt as though I had sprinkled black pepper on my tongue and it is not a pleasant experience. Neither is its polar opposite, in which the brewer cannot pull the trigger and it ends a bland, watery mess. This was good.

This was a 12 oz bottle poured into a pint glass

It pours a cloudy yellow/orange with low retention and lots of bubbles initially that quickly dissapate. It has a citrus aroma with a little Belgium yeast scent in there. It tastes crisp and refreshing and a little bready upfront and then it is all citrus I'm the finish. It has a slightly above average mouthfeel and good carbonation. This would be a great beer on a hot day.

When i poured this beer, it has a hazy golden color body with a small white head, that quickly dissapears. The smell is very aromatic of orange and coriander. The taste has a nice orange flavor to is, not overpowering and the coriander and other spices come through really nice and subtle on the back of the tongue. the mouth feel is great, well carbonated and balanced. this is one of the better witbier i have had.

Poured from the bottle into a pint glass, White Lantern is a hazy, peachy-wheat color with a thin, active white head. The nose is sweet and spicey, corriander is definitely noticable which complements the otherwise orangy-citrusy backdrop. The flavor is what you would expect based on the taste. Very similar to Blue Moon, but possibly a bit more tart and not quite as sweet. Mouthfeel is light to medium in body with a mouthcoating carbonation. Overall, a good beer, nothing outrageous but definitely a solid beer.

Part of the Spring Thaw Variety Pack, this wheat beer pours a dull, cloudy yellow, with notes of yeast, honey, orange and a crisp sweetness that reminds be of burnt cotton candy (?). Interesting. On the tongue, surprisingly delicious. I've had plenty of wheat beers in my time, but the sharp sweet attack, courtesy of the orange peel, coriander, and a spice called Grains Of Paradise, which is part of the ginger family, really give it character. The middle follows with a soothing creaminess, quickly followed by a clean yet gentle spicy finish.

This is certainly now my favorite wheat beer, flavorful, refreshing, and brief, a burst of complexity on the tongue that doesn't leave any unpleasant aftertaste. Food recommendations include quesadillas, enchiladas, or cheesesteak sandwiches if you crave something heavy, but I find it perfect just on it's own. Cheers!

I love Witbier. This is a really decent offering, and I like how Sam Adams has been putting out quality white ales, and other unfiltered beers for the last few years. This beer really features the wheat, and the fruit notes are toned down just enough so they make it drinkable.

The color is awesome. I love hazy beers, and this one seems just right by appearance. The smell is a little mild, with some wheat presence. The taste is okay, but I was expecting something a little stronger flavor wise. The mouthfeel is watery, and needs improvement.

This is a great beer, and it just makes more of a statement for Sam Adams. I do not really consider Sam Adams "craft" beer in anyway, but most of their products are cheaper, and simply better tasting than some of the other "craft" beer on the market.

A new Sam Adams brew....this one is yellow-gold and hazy. The head is bright white, but not long-lived. It's aroma is of wheat twang, citrus, and spice. It is a little muted, especially compared to the flavorful taste. Soft, sweet, and wheat. It has a subtle spice, and a fullness that is enjoyable. Very nice beer.

Pours lemony, clouded yellow with a thin, creamy white head that lasts a decent time before becoming a thin swirl. Some lacing sticks.

The smell is of orange and lemon peel with coriander and candy.

The taste is of sugar-coated lemon and orange peel with a mild bubblegum undertone. Sweetness balanced by coriander spicing and a touch of tart. Crisp, refreshing finish.

It is appropriately light bodied with a carbonation level that gives it a refreshingly crisp character with some creaminess to it.

This is a good example of the style.

Appearance: Hazy, golden/orange; small head, long lasting, good lacing

Smell: Sweet malt; coriander; orange peel; peppery

Taste: Juicy malt on start; slight hops and coriander in the mid; finishes semi sweet with a bit of hop lingering and some citrus tartness; seems to end with some light honey notes, too.

Mouthfeel: Medium body with good carbonation

Remarks: Decent take on a Witbier overall. I'm glad to see they used noble hops in the recipe. I think citrusy hops would have been too much for the style.

12 oz. bottle,

A: Pours a hazy goldenrod with a medium white head, good head retention, light spotty lace.

S: Definite citrus/orange with notes of pineapple.

T: This beer gives off a ton of orange with a nice interplay of wheat and lemon in the finish. Citrus dominated and direct.

M: Light-bodied, crisp and clean with a citrus finish, biting carbonation.

O: This is a very good white ale that fans of the style who enjoy a lot of citrus will like. Well worth a try.

Samuel Adams White Lantern has a thick, frothy, white head, lots of lacing film left behind, and a hazy, golden appearance, with a large amount of streaming bubbles. The aroma is of white wheat bread, bread crust, and citrus. Taste is of coriander, citrus juice, white bread, white pepper, and malt. Mouthfeel is watery and light, and Samuel Adams White Lantern finishes semi-dry, refreshing, and easy drinking. Overall, this is a very good beer, and I think that people who enjoy flavored beer will like it.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a Sam Adams "Perfect Pint" glass. Label says enjoy before June 2013.

Appearance: Pours a hazy golden orange with lots of rising bubbles. Huge five finger white head with good retention. Leaves a lot of lacing around the glass.

Smell: A bright and crisp citrus driven aroma with lots of coriander spice. Wheat grains and pale malts with hints of biscuit, cracker, and yeast. Hints of citrus orange peel, pineapple, lemon zest, and tangerine. Lots of coriander hints. Some herbal and grassy hop hints as well. A pretty decent light wheat aroma.

Taste: Follows the nose with a crisp wheaty taste of citrus esters and coriander spice. Wheat cereal grains and pale malts with notes of cracker, biscuit, and yeast. Citrus esters of orange peel, tangerine, pineapple, and lemon zest. Big coriander taste and a slight touch of white pepper. Subtle herbal hops towards the finish. A decent wheat taste.

Mouthfeel: Light to medium bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Crisp, clean, and slightly tart.

Overall: A decent light wheat ale with some nice citrus and coriander notes.

Another offering from the brewer that started it all - this one I've tried is White Lantern - and it was good.

From the bottle, just like they describe it, the beer comes out a hazy, but appealing yellow. The head is white, fluffy, and with good staying power and lacing. White Lantern has a citrusy scent to it, with no overpowering hop or malt odors. The mouthfeel was bold and just the right blend of thickness to watery roll across the tongue. I was most impress by the taste - some of the Sam Adams I've had end up disappointing me in this category but not this one. It was smooth and simply delicious. Overall, I gave it a good rating and will be enjoying more of these real soon.

If you drink, please don't drive, but if you drive, then do us all a favor and don't drink...stay safe...

Samuel Adams White Lantern brewed by Boston Beer Company with an ABV of 5.5% This brew pours out cloudy amber color with a small, white head. White Lantern is an unfiltered brew; you can not see thought it. The smell is rich with grains, spices ,and a hit of bitterness. So far this brew is ok. Now for the taste, it is smooth with some citrus. The mouthfeel is nice, clean, and refreshing. This brew has a nice balance to it, I would get this brew again. Overall I'm giving this brew a 4 out 5 .

The White Lantern from Sammy Ale is decent and reminds me alot fo the White Ale, White Christmas, etc that they have had. The beer pours pale clear yellow with white head that is not lacing. The smell has hints of citrus, orange peel and spice. The taste has a battle between the citrus and spice with a good malt base and slightly bitter hop finish. The mouthfeel is lighter in body with decent carbonation. Overall this is good....but there are so many other great beers that this would be lost in the crowd.

Hazy cloudy straw color. Thick off white head with nice lacing.

Orange citrus really pops out in the nose with a little bit of lemon rind in the back.

Taste is citrusy with a little bit of orange sweetness. Refreshing summertime beer very thirst quenching.

Medium bodied. perfect for this style of unfiltered wheat. Love that slightly creamy texture.

overall I like this beer. Honestly its pretty much a summer ale with slighty more of an orangey character. Actually , and I hate to say this, its a slightly less good Blue Moon. Coors made a better product than Sam? Is snow falling on Satan?

12oz longneck.
A) Pours with a finger thick white head. Golden Yellowish colored body with some haze (hence being a witbier). Semi-sticky lacing on the drink down.
S) Floral notes with grainy tones. Subtle hints of berries.
T) Grainy. Slightly nutty. Earthy floral. Not much in the finish, just falls out.
M) Crisp. Light body. Fizzy. Dry in the finish.
O) An OK beer. I'd drink another if the options were limited.

I am surprised by the low ratings. This beer is quite good for a wit with spice. Pours a cloudy light gold with a fair head that has low lacing that dissipates quickly. Not much nose, but there is slight floral sweetness present. Balance is outstanding with a stylistic mouthfeel. It finishes with a burst of spice, as intended, with no hop bitterness aftertaste. This a very good summer ale - quite drinkable.

12 oz bottle from a variety pack poured into a pint glass

A- A cloudy golden color with about one finger of head and a lot of active carbonation.

S- The smell is both sweet and a little spicy. Zesty aromas of lemon peel and malts come forward. Smells sweet with some hop aromas as well.

T- Great taste that balances both sweetness and a hoppy bitterness. There is also a nice flavor of spices present in this beer.

M- Medium to light mouthfeel. Carbonation is crisp and makes the beer refreshing and enjoyable. Aftertaste is wheaty and citrusy.

O- Not my favorite style of beer but I enjoyed this one. It is tasty, easy drinking, and refreshing. I probably wouldn't seek it out, but I would certainly drink it again.

Poured into a perfect pint.

3.75 A: Moderately hazed dark yellow color. Two fingers of pillowy white head. Retention is good and a moderate amount of lacing is left.

3.75 S: Mountain stream freshness is the first thing that comes to mind. Next comes coriander and possibly some orange peel. Neutral wheatiness with light pepper from the yeast. Overall quite pleasant.

3.75 T: The taste takes the nose and adds a powerful citrus component. Orange, lemon, and even some mango and pineapple enter the fray. Again a neutral wheat, coriander, orange peel, and pepper.

4.0 M: Medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Moderate creaminess that goes down quite well.

4.0 D: Pretty good beer with no real faults.
