12oz bottle poured into a New Belgium globe.
A: Pours a golden-amber color with excellent clarity. Two fingers of creamy, pillowy, bone-white head retain extremely well. Jagged, clumpy rings of lacing cement themselves onto the glass. This is a good looking beer.
S: Hop-forward on the nose with aromas of pine, light grapefruit, tangerine, lemon rind, and melon. Sweet-ish bready and caramel malt base.
T: Pine and grapefruit rind. Modest bitterness builds on the mid-palate until it becomes somewhat aggressive. Lemon peel, slight tangerine, and bitter leafy herbs. Malt base is substantial, as tastes of bread, crust, caramel, and wet grain punch through to provide some balance. Bitter and drying on the finish with tastes of crust and grapefruit rind.
M: Decidedly medium bodied, creamy and somewhat chewy. Moderate carbonation.
O: This beer has been compared to Hoponius Union around these parts. The comparison is a bit unfair, in my opinion. This is a different ball of wax. The bitter, West-coast influenced hop profile is there, but like Latitude 48, it has a bigger malt backbone to anchor it. It's a good beer, but I think the drinkability suffers just a tad due to the heftier malt body. Still my pick as the best beer from the Spring Thaw variety pack.

I bought the "Double Agent IPL" as part of a Sam Adams "IPA Hopology" case that I bought at Costco...
Frankly, it's a thin beer that has just-average IPA flavors and it just doesn't get to join the "Awesome IPA" family...
