Poured from a bottle into a Sam Adams signature glass. The beer is crystal clear, bright gold in color, and sports a nice frothy head with good retention. The nose is bright and hoppy and boasts lots of mouth-watering tropical fruit, primarily lemons, grapefruit, and oranges.

Light body and crisp, clean flavor. Some corn-like sweetness up front that is well-balanced with plenty of bitter, flowery hoppy notes. Nothing too complex, but lots of flavor for the style. Very refreshing.

For an American Pale Lager, this beer is quite something. Lots of flavor, but does not sacrifice any of its thirst-quenching attributes. A really nice beer from Boston Beer Co. Not designed to blow anyone away, but rather a good all-around lazing-around-the-TV-watching-a-ballgame beer.

As with many others, I wasn't going into this with a lot of pre-exiting knowledge. That being said, one would expect citrus, floral, pine, earthy with extreme smoothness shining through with the lager-ing process and yeast.

Copper-hued clarity screams at you as you gaze at the glass.
Aroma is a pronounced IPA signature, with the hops playing the prominent role.
Taste is all IPA, with a punch of citrusy tang. The bitter profile carries through the palate leaving a bittering finish...perhaps, perhaps a slight bit smoother than your average IPA.
Mouthfeel is the norm.

This beer delivers most of what it claims. However I didn't pick up the lager tranquility. It seemed very heavy handed on the IPA side of the scale, but not too much on the lager end. Even in the finish. I have to say, though, this was sampled AFTER a Stone IPA and a Goose Island IPA. Which in my opinion, should have made the lager smooth profile really stand out from heavily hopped intentional IPA's.

All of that being said, I did enjoy the beer immensely. Even to introduce non believers to IPA's, this is probably too much on the bitter end of the spectrum.
Worth a try, to enjoy, and come to your own conclusion.

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle dated March (2014?). Sampled on August 17, 2013.

It has a slightly murky medium amber-orange pour with a silky, soft off-white head. Evocative carbonation.

Interesting aroma of malts, grains, and tropical fruits. The hops are not as up front as they are on the taste, which I will get to.

Medium body with a slight creaminess.

There is a vague butterscotch note on the taste at first but it is quickly overtaken by the earthy hops and tropical fruitiness. Uniquely enjoyable for a pale lager.
