12-oz bottle into Belgian ale glass

A - 2 fingers off-white foam over a transparent body of amber with a moderate amount of visible carbonation, patchy lace

S - citrus, floral, pine, bready malt

T - big grapefruit/citrus character, notes of pine, hop spice, wheaty/bready backbone; dry floral/citrus finish

M - smooth medium body, high carbonation

O - a well-rounded IPA; 2013 release is fairly similar to the previous recipe, but more grapefruity

Poured a 12oz bottle into a Sammy glass. Had a lovely, deep copper color. Was ever so slightly hazy, and had plenty of steady carbo. Head was a 1/2" layer of frothy, off-white foam, with nice lacing on the glass. Aroma was not too strong, but I did get some piney, earthy hops. It felt fairly smooth, though I found it a little on the thinner side of medium for body.

Tasted of some light caramel malt at the outset. Then it became piney and rindy. Also in the mix were some herbal, minty notes. Is that the Mosaic? Not overly complex, but still fairly drinkable. Prosit!!

Had this as part of the "Deconstructed" 12 pack out of the bottle, and looking through my reviews I realized this is my fifteenth Sam Adams review. I should branch out more. Anyway, of the 12 pack, this was one of my favorites of the hop varieties. It was a little stronger than some others, which I enjoyed. Great aftertaste. Really liked it.

Poured from a bottle into a nonic pint.

A - Pours a crystal clear copper with a one-finger, off white head. Small amount of patchy lacing.

S - Medium strength aroma of candied fruit, earthy pine, onion, and a hint of cat pee.

T - Strong flavor of candied fruit (mango, mandarin orange), mild spruce, garlic, fresh cut grass, and mint. I really like the flavor of this hop. Base beer doesn't come through much at all on this one; it's a Mosaic bomb basically. Packs a lot of hop flavor punch for it's ABV.

M - Lighter side of medium bodied, with standard Sam Adams prickly carbonation. Drying finish.

O - I discovered I really like Mosaic hops. As a beer? Ehh....I'd drink it again but wouldn't seek it out.

Since I have already rated and reviewed Latitude 48, I am going to keep my review on this “deconstructed” version focused upon the hop character.

The brewer describes Mosaic hops as having a "subtle fruit notes of pineapple and Mandarin orange along with hints of eucalyptus."

I’m getting the pineapple in the nose. Citrusy notes are also present in the flavor profile especially on the finish. There is also a dry character to the finish. Eucalyptus (what?) is nowhere to be found.
