this beer pours a really great auburn color. nice lace on the glass. the smell is rich with dark fruit- there is also a tinge of tartness. i get different flavors with each sip- fruits, a little smokiness, a little tart. there is also a slight dry alcohol burn- but in a good way. there is a bold warmness about this beer that i like. over all a complex and interesting brew.

Presentation: It was poured from an odd shaped brown 1pt. 9.4oz bottle into a tulip glass. The lable lists the abv at 10.2%.

Appearance: The body has a dark orange amber color with good clarity and visible carbonation. This is topped off with a tall light tan head. It’s head fades slowly to just a thin creamy film covering. Lacing coats the glass as I tip the beer to my lips then slowly slides down the sides of the glass.

Smell: The aroma has loads of dark fruit, holiday fruitcake and sweet maltiness.

Taste / Palate: There are nice sweet malt notes throughout. It has notes of dates, raisins, black currants and sweet bready/fruitcake like goodness. It’s hops add a touch of spice and herbal bitterness on the back end. The solid 10.2% abv adds a mild boozy warming feel. This all comes on nice medium to full feeling body with smooth carbonation.

Appearance: 1/4 inch head, tan in color, cloudy, medium carbonation

Smell: raisin, fig, oak, dark bread

Taste: brown sugar, raisin, fig, Belgian spices, pumpernickel bread, and dates

Mouthfeel: medium-high carbonation, heavy body, sweet start with bitter middle, sweeter end

Overall: Nice and fruity quad. Complex. I would get this one again. It may be my favorite in the barrel room collection.

Poured from a bottle into a Sam Adams Glass.

Appearance: Brown with a thick beige head, mild lacing on the glass.

Smell: Fruity, cloves, wheat, malts and hops.

Mouthfeel/Taste: Very smooth medium bodied. Taste of rich fruity flavors, malts, grassy notes and alcohol.

Overall: Ok beer, well crafted. But not my first choice for a beer personally.

Dark brown in color and nearly impenetrable to light. A quarter inch of beige head slowly diminishes to the point that it is only a trace and partially covers the top of the beer. In the aroma notes of raisins, plums, and a hint of clove are present. The flavor is much more intense than the aroma. Strong notes of Merlot, raisin, and alcohol are prominent. The alcoholic aftertaste is initially strong, but it mellows out as it warms. The mouth is fairly carbonated and sticky. I think this could have used cellaring.

Color is amazing. A beautiful amber color and my favorite is the head that stays for some time. Even the color of head is a great cream color.

The smell you first get is almost a wine smell from the raisins. Second comes a strong clove and molasses that really fills your nostrils. With a few more trying of aroma the dark fruits come in and compliments with a sweeter smell.

The flavors with the initial mouth full is powerful. Tons of flavors rush into the mouth and almost to much (for me). With a strong tingle in the front of the tongue it smooths over the rest and eases to the rest. With flavors the even tho the raisins are the first you smell they are the last you taste. First is the molasses and the dark fruits and both combined create an amazing taste.

Overall it's a great beer. From the amazing smell and an overall great taste it's a good beer to start the night or finish an amazing night with.

Always happy to try Sammy's Barrel aged stuff, sometimes they even live up to my expectations...

Opens with a resounding pop, pours an effervescent orange/copper with a pinky of cream colored head. Average lacing

S: Dark fruit & woody hops, some cinnamon & vanilla, plus banana & pears

T: Dark fruit, a touch of boozeyness & juicy fruit gum up front. Figs, black currants, raisins & rubber bans as this warms, plus a little more leafy hops, plus a modicum of oakyness/dryness. plus some golden raisin & pears. Finishes with jammyness, a little banana peel, oakyness, plus a bit of raisin

MF: Medium bodied, dry, boozey with near zero carbonation

A nice Quad, not much barrel age aspects here, but not completely MIA. I would possibly buy this again, seems like it would age great; like the complexity on display already. Drinks easy for the heft & style

Pours a ruby brown color with a big fluffy/airy khaki colored head. The head settled fairly quick and rested into a solid ring.

The aroma is sweet and spicy. Big dark fruit aromas. Raisin, prune and a hint of carob. Some musty port notes. Subtle brown sugar notes. Big clove presence from the yeast.

Quite sweet on the palate but not cloying. Lots of sugary notes mix in with raisin and other dark fruit sweet flavors. A decent amount of clove but nothing aggressive. There is an earthiness to the beer, provides some needed bitterness. There is also a slight fusel alcohol presence which is a tad unpleasant. Where is the oak barrel presence? Perhaps it peeks through in the finish but I am not sure. Could use some more depth to be really good.

The feel is moderate; lighter than expected. Big airy carbonation. Sweet on the palate with a slight sticky finish. The ABV is noticeable but not overwhelming. Could use more of the oak.

A decent BSDA. Not off flavors but it does lack some needed depth.
