Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a tulip pint glass.
A: Clear, light amber color with one finger of diminishing white foam head. Heavy lacing remains on the glass.
S: Resinous pine is supported by nuanced floral aroma. The overall effect is suggestive of a hybrid hops bill using both modern (i.e., Amarillo) and traditional (Columbus) American cultivars. Huffing reveals a chemical hops quality that is particularly indicative of a Columbus presence.
T: Begins dry, with refined--but dominant--biscuit malt and moderate floral hops aromatics. Acidity is mild into the middle where established flavors are still evident; flavor qualities generally become less intense. An aura of ascetic pine surrounds the first two acts, but is never truly featured. The finish is mildly bitter and malty with a neutral character of base grain.
M: Thin to medium viscosity, slightly resinous and acidic on the palate, with moderate carbonation.
D/O: This IPA seems to be assembled for mass appeal; a gateway to the style. It threatens to offend the senses and sensibilities of this student of hops by edging up to the Columbus "do not cross" line--but stops just short. There will likely be a showdown looming when it hits sports bar draft lines next to New Belgium's Ranger IPA.

Pours into a nonic a clear medium golden with a sticky one finger white that settles very slowly leaving two broken rings of lace behind as it settles .Mild leafy and citric hops along with some sugary sweetness, both are light.A decent shot of citric hops upfront on the palate along with a caramel biscuit base underneath, the hops are much more fruity than bitter wich surprised me a little. Not bad,it's not something to go spend alot of money on but would be good as a "starter" IPA for somebody.

Rocky head from the off white head forming thick, large bodied copper hue going on. Aroma has citric notes, big fruity hop notes, lemon, lime, and alpha acids come through each sniff. Flavor includes big fruitiness, caramelized malts, bitterness rolling through with hints of tropical fruits, dank resinous hops make their presence known but the actual beer doesn't do the style justice. Mouthfeel has a resinous hop oil slickness even carbonation not much going on other than the breadiness that finishes with most Sam Adams beers. Overall I can't wait to try more Sam Adams IPAs this happens to be their first shot at a West Coast style IPA it's getting closer.

Presentation: It was served on tap at Fridays restaurant.
Appearance: Rebel IPA had slight chill hazed body with a light golden color. The head was bright white, tall and soapy. It quickly settled down to a denser thin cap which hung on well and made some slick lacing on the glass.
Smell: The aroma has a good dose of citrusy and floral hops as well as some lighter pine like hops in the background.
Taste / Palate: It has plenty of hop flavor and bitterness thought out. Its hop character is mostly citrusy and floral. The malt is light and somewhat bready and cracker like. It really just sets up the hops to shine. I would say that it has a firm medium body and the finish has a nice slow hop bitter fade.
