Ruby Mild is what it is called...mild indeed. Sam Adams only knows how to make them right.

I was very impressed with the color of beer, as advertised a red tinge mixed with a dark caramel color that has nice highlights. The smell is not overpowering of malt or hops, with a mouthfeel that is well...mild. I thought it would blow me away, but it was just good, plain good, which isn't bad. Anyway, I thought the mild taste of ale would be something appealing to me but it wasn't as much as I thought. It wasn't bad, mind you, it just didn't tingle my toes. Overall, it is an outstanding beer and one I have tried again and again.

Appearance - Medium amber. Clear. Short, off-white head. Not persistent.

Smell - Light caramel malt. Nutty and toasty.

Taste - Sweet but fairrly light caramel malts. Mainly toast, nuts, toffee. A little fruit.

Mouthfeel - Medium.

Overall - Per category, this is a pretty unobjectionable beer. Flavor is pleasant and light enough to enjoy all day.

Pours a clear, light brown color. 1/4 inch head of an off-white color. Decent retention and good lacing. Smells of hops, sweet malt, slight pale malt, hint of caramel malt, and a hint of yeast. Mouth feel is sharp and crisp, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of sweet malt, caramel malt, hops, slight pale malt, and a hint of yeast. Overall, a decent mild, with good blend, and appearance.

Served in a DFH ribbed glass.

A: Poured a crystal clear, bronze color with a sticky off-white head that clung to the glass.

S: Much more potent than I was expecting. Sour dough bread and Sam Adams signature profile in spades. Nice.

T: Goes down pretty smoothly and with a nice bitter slap of the palate at the end. Nothing earth shattering, but still a nice, semi-sweet, low-bodied mild.

M: Ridiculous lacing left on the glass, very smooth, and nothing drying at all. The carbonation bill was nice.

O: This one doesn't get high marks on here, but then again, very few examples in this style class seemed to have made an impression on anyone. Good stuff.

Another beer from the Fall Sampler Pack that I've never had before. At first, It thought this would be a Red Ale but after reading the description of what an English Mild Ale should be on here and later giving this a go, it turned out that this was a textbook example of what one should be. "Mild" would be the right word for this beer as it went down so easily that I had to restrain myself a bit while drinking this!

The pour to this was a bright hazelnut hue with a bit of head and hardly any lacing to be seen. This thinness was repeated in the mouthfeel and there wasn't a terribly strong aroma to this either. Hints of brown sugar, dark fruit, and grain dominate here with a pretty smooth mouthfeel and a hint of cream to go on top of it. A bit of candied sugar and light apple were in the aftertaste but that faded, along with the somewhat grainy texture of this. Not much lingered in terms of taste or texture, which was the hallmark of a beer this light.

I gave away the other one of these that came in the pack but had I kept it, I could have easily downed it in my sitting. The alcohol was only detectable at the end and of course, that faded quickly as well. There wasn't much to take from this but on its own, it was a good beer to have an a Fall day such as this. Between the darker fruit up front and the lighter finish to this, there's just enough to hold anyone's attention in this beer. Just don't expect anything more than "mild" from this.
