Nice change of pace from Sam Adams with this Mild. Pours a gorgeous dark amber/red with off-white head - very enticing to look at this ale. Nose is on the lighter side with some toasty/biscuit notes and a caramel quality. On the palate I'm getting a nice malty to biscuit sweetness with some balancing hops, very easy drinking & thirst quenching, and very subdued alcohol for such a high % for a mild. Looking forward to cheese pairings with this one. (451 characters)

Served in a Lagunitas mason jar.

Gotta love it when you see an American brewery come out with a mild and it weighs in at over 5%... Regardless, this stuff pours a clear rusty bronze topped by a finger of short-lived off-white foam. The nose comprises sweet flowers, light walnut, and a twinge of lightly-toasted biscuit. The taste brings in more of the same, with a bit more biscuit (now buttery for your Southern pleasure) and a twang of vague sweetness for good measure. The body is a light medium, with a moderate carbonation and a crisp-ish finish that epitomizes how the flavors completely fall off of a cliff near the end. Overall, this was a pretty disappointing brew. It's weak, it's overcarbed, it's slightly muddled, and it's in no way "mild". Let's just say: I'm not impressed. (789 characters)

Appearance has that ruby color to it supporting a thin head leaving nill lace. Smell is mild with the caramel malt and light hop. Taste is slightly harsh, not real balanced leaving a salinic bitter in the end. Mouthfeel is medium light with good carbonation. Probably one I won't try again. (290 characters)

Purchased as part of the 2013 fall pack. It pours a very nice reddish brown, and clear. Not ruby, but nice looking. An inch off white head that slowly fades over a few minutes.

The smell is malt and slight roast. The taste is malt, caramel, and nut. The nut is very light, and I can't pick up the hops other than a slight offset on the sweet of the caramel taste.

I am rating this highly, because it is a smoother, well balanced, very drinkable version of their red. I like their Irish red, and I would pay 25-50% per six more to have this available year round in place of that. Every facet is slightly better tasting and smoother than that already good beer. (661 characters)

A - Deep red, with non-existent head, and scattered lacing on the glass.

S - Sweet malts and red cherries. A hint of bread.

T - Tastes just like an Irish Red, along the lines of Killian's. Enjoyable, but nothing earth shattering.

M - Moderate mouthfeel. Not quite watery, not quite thick. If this were watery, it would've been dumped down the drain. I think the mouthfeel and sweet malts saved this one from being wasted. Definitely the weakest link in this seasonal pack.

O - Not bad, not great. Sessionable. (514 characters)

Appearance: Pours a clear, amber-hued body with an inch of light beige suds. Heads steadily settles, leaving a thin ring and some flecks of lace here and there.

Smell: Ruby smells like toasted bread, with a little, light nuttiness, some dried herb, and a bit of fresh cherry.

Taste: Bready, toasty with some caramel sweetness and modest nutty accents. Fruitiness hinting of sweet cherry. Light English hop character, hints of herb, spice. Sufficiently bitter. Nutty, drying, yet still malty on the soft finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. Soft, easy-going mouthfeel.

Overall: Reminiscent of their Irish Red Ale, at least for me. (650 characters)

Ruby or mahogany hue gives off a rich and iridescent coloring. The head started relatively thick and pronounced but became thin and disappated quickly.

Thick in the nose it's like an Irish Red with roasted malt tones and kilned grains. Some sour caramel malt and toasted breadiness are present and the aromas are pronounced.

This is interestingly complex with some prune, date and raisin. Theres Caramel malts with an end of piney hops, the taste is sour and softly bitter.

There seems to be a fight in this beer between the crisp easiness and the taste as the carbonation makes it feel silky but washes away some of the flavor. I'm very impressed otherwise as its quite diverse and quite flavorful. (703 characters)

Poured from a bottle on to a Sam Adams glass

A: Beer pours a gorgeous dark amber color with a two finger head that slowly shrinks into a pinky sized head. The beer had great head retention throughout the entire time.

S: I poured it at the recommended temperature but I thought the smell was a little weak. Once it warmed up a little you can pick up the malt and some faint roastyness. I wish the aroma was more obvious.

T: Roasty, sweet, malty, and a slight bitterness towards the end. Not a bad taste and the beer is very well balanced.

M: Very smooth. You can take a huge sip from this and you wont feel anything in your throat. Very smooth, very light, and highly drinkable.

O: It is a good beer to have when you want something refreshing. The fact that it's not heavy and is incredibly smooth make it a great session beer. I would probably rate this as an above average beer. (885 characters)

Brown, with red hues and a small white cap, this brew is very drinkable. The aoma is earthy and malty. Great, full malt flavor, but balanced and very drinkable. It is the kind of beer that you could enjoy in quantity on tap. The mouthfeel is relatively full...satisfying. Nice brew. (282 characters)

Ok my fave time of year is when fall seasonals start coming. Looks like Sam adams is kick starting it this year with their fall mixer which was purchased July 24 in my neck of woods. First up is ruby mild. Never had a mild so can't judge off of style. Good solid beer. No head retention. Solid malt backbone with little to no hops. Reminds me of bells amber without the subtle hops. Maybe that us how the style is intended. Good overall beer. (442 characters)

A smooth "reddish" ale that poored crisp. Not too much head (if any?), was supringly tasty. The beer tasted like a dummed down traditional red ale which I expected with the name "mild". Came in an autmn sampler pack which was suprisingly worth it. Would definitely recommend it if you are a fan of traditional ale or Red. (321 characters)

Clear red colored ale with a small tan colored head that doesn't last. Dark red color edging in to brown.

Smells malty with a some burnt sugar aroma, some caramel and a faint whiff of smoke. Fainter raisin and butter aromas.

Starts out malty ans semi-sweet. Flavors of burnt sugar and butter and some leather flavor from English style hops. Toffee and caramel flavors. Mild bitterness and some soda cracker malt.

Mouthfeel is good.

Overall not a bad beer. Stronger in alcohol and malt that the traditional English version but still tasty. (550 characters)
