Served in an Ohio State shaker pint glass.

I wanted a fruit beer, so I went for the new, cheap one. Sue me. This stuff pours a clear garnet-tinged sunrise ruby topped by a half-finger of pink foam. The nose comprises slightly tart, slightly dank cherry, a hint of excess sweetness, and a hint of raspberry way in the background. The taste brings in more of the same, a hint of tartness up front tailing into vaguely sweet cherry-ness. The body is a light medium, with a very light moderate carbonation and a slightly syrupy feel. Overall, a nice enough cherry thing, especially for the relatively low price, but nothing I'm likely to be picking up very often in the future.

Ter Dolen Kriek. Discover the Red "Ter Dolen Kriek", with it's mellow, sweet taste, and it's rich fruity flavor. Made with 100% real kriek juice. Product of Belgium. Ale brewed with spices and with natural flavor added. Kasteel brouwerij, Tilburg's Belgian Ale. Alc. 4.5% by Vol."

Bright ruby red, thoroughly opaque, slim white head.

Aroma: just a touch of tart, then juicy, pulp-y sweetness of the cherry. Fruit flavor is rich, but it ends on a dry note.

Taste: Puckeration at first, tart, lightly sour, then sliding off. Light bodied, but fully flavored. Ever so fruit-y. Refreshing, but just a little one-dimensional. Made with juice, not real cherries, unsure of the fermentation. As I continue throughout the drink, I'm less than impressed. It never says "limbic" anywhere on the label, which makes it a cherry ale, without the wildness.

Eh. That's how I'll leave it. Not bad, just nothing more than …eh.

not sure ive ever had a spiced kriek before, but that's exactly what we have here. dark pink in color with a redder, amber glow and an inch of gorgeous white head that all but vanishes after a few short moments. smells as much of holiday spices as it does of cherries, not exactly what I expect in the style, but I welcome the change. the taste kind of lets me down a bit. even though it smells tart, its way too sweet to be a genuine kriek in my book, and the spices aren't fully congruent with the fruit, its a strange match, like when you see a really young attractive girl with a sloppy geezer, only the old guy isn't rich or cool, she just loves him for him, you are left wondering how its possible, why she chooses that, how well endowed he must be, who knows... the cherries and spices in this beer is that couple, you accept it, you even commend it, but you don't all the way like it, and you don't all the way understand it. to be more concrete, i wish it had a little more carbonation and a little less residual sugar. i wish, if it insists on spice, that it would commit to one or two and make them obvious, this blend of unidentifiable spices convolutes the whole thing for me and my palate. not a total miss, but a beer i certainly wont miss if i never have it again. not enough good krieks out there i just decided. i do like that this is affordable at 6 bucks a go.

Poured into a goblet.

A pour of average strength yields a finger of pink frothy head. The body is nearly the exact color of fresh raspberries. Slightly cloudy.

Aromas of cherry candy, fruit juice, and cherry syrup. This smells good, but not like a traditional kriek.

The flavor is not as sweet as the nose indicated, which I find a pleasant surprise. Acid and sugar are not quite in balance with the whole feel leaning towards sugar, but still the overall impression is balance. Cherry candy is predominant.

Conclusion: Very much like liquid cherry candy in a good way. Not like a real kriek or like "cough syrup" as other reviewers have mentioned (also not like fresh cherry juice either). This is a fruit beer, not a traditional kriek, and if viewed as such I think it is quite good. Don't expect Cantillon!

This pours a pinkish/red color with a slight, light pink head. There is a strong aroma of sweet cherries. The taste is smooth to the point where there is almost no carbonation. There isn't much to let you know this is a beer, as it drinks and taste more like a cherry desert drink. Drinks very smooth and tastes delicious. This is either a hit or miss with the beer geek crowd.

A: The beer is hazy dark rosé in color and has a slight amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a short white head that quickly died down, leaving delicate lacing on the surface and a collar consisting of large bubbles around the edge of the glass.
S: Light to moderate aromas of sweet, dark cherries are present in the nose—similar to what you would expect from a cherry cough drop.
T: The taste is similar to the smell but has more pronounced flavors of dark cherries and a moderate amount of sweetness.
M: It feels light-bodied on the palate and has a low to moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is easy to drink but seems like you having a liquid version of a cherry cough drop instead of a beer, so it might not be appealing to everyone.

330 mL bottle pours a clear red color with a nice cap of soft pink head. Retention and lace are both average.

Nose is cherry juice and Kool-Aid. Not much in the way of malt, sourness or yeast.

Taste is definitely cherry-laden. It tastes very much like the bottled cherry juice in the supermarkets but with carbonation. Really has very little beer character. Thats not to say it doesnt taste good...because it does. Just very one-dimensional and not beer-like at all.
