On tap at Rustico in Alexandria. Served in a snifter.

Pours a medium-dark brown color with a thin tan head and a bit of lacing as it goes down. Retention is decent. Thin collar after the head falls. The nose carries some Christmas-type spice along with some yeasty phenolics. Some dark fruits and a bit of semi-sweet malt.

The flavor hits the malt and has a bit of spice. The yeast isn't coming through as much, and there's a dryness throughout. Medium body that is a bit lacking in carbonation. No real alcohol presence. Good, but nothing to make it stand out.

I bought this beer at the Zythos beer festival in March 2011.

A - A red brown beer with a off white head. Some carbonation and yeast in my glass, and I didn't shake the bottle. The retraction was quite strong, I think my glass was not that clean (I wasn't at my place).

S - A slight wine like smell with gingerbread and cloves.

T - The beer is a bit sweet, brown sugar, ginger, and cloves.

M - Not bad, medium carbonation, some what sticky feeling, in the finish is warming and spicy.

O - A warming beer, spicy too. A real winter beer.

25cl brown bottle, with a snowy, wintery scene on the label, very pretty.

Poured into a thisle shaped glass (Gordon Finest Gold). The beer is a deep, deep ruby red colour, the head tan. Lacing held onto the glass nicely.

The smell is of roasted malts and liquorice roots, the taste too. Rich and almost creamy in the mouthfeel, the best beer from Leroy I've ever had (not difficult to be honest, we don't seem to get on too well). Held up to the light it shows a clear, if dark body, with plenty of life in the glass, it also feels well carbonated.

Belgian Christmas beers are always a joy to drink, this one slots into that bracket well.
