look: 4 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 3.75 | overall: 4.25

Poured from a 375 mL bottle into a tulip. This was released in 2012 and has a date (I assume "Best by" of 10/10/16).

Appearance: Pours a muddy dark brown and leaves a finger of off-white head that lingers for a short while before leaving a layer atop the beer. (4)

Smell: Spicy cognac leads the way along with some Belgian yeast, raisins, figs, hint of licorice. (4.25)

Taste: Starts with the cognac and then moves into some dark fruits, a bit of caramel, some cloves and finishes a tad bitter. The cognac really helped this one out. (4)

Mouth-feel: Low to medium carb with a fairly watery, just a tad sticky, medium body. Finishes really smooth but a bit bitter and spiced. (3.75)

Overall: The cognac barrel had a lot of influence on this - and plays a big role in the flavor. Really drinkable, with not a whole lot else to go with the cognac, but that's fine for this one. Reminded me a bit more of a spiced brown ale then a quad. Tasty. (4.25) (951 characters)
