Semi-opaque dark murky ruby pour, with a decent head with no retention. Smells like dried fruit (raisins, figs), brewed coffee, chocolate. Tastes like prunes, cocoa, dark chocolate, cognac, cherries, white wine, stuff like that. Light body with medium carbonation, sweet and spicy (due to the alcohol) aftertaste.

Poured at Stout in LA. Six ounce pour in a mini-tulip.

Ruddy brown color and oatmeal lace instead of head. 4

Oaken and plum heavy. Light vanilla and brown sugar. 4

Like these flavors. Toasted oak, hazelnut, brown sugar, raisins and vanilla. Delicious. 4.25

A tad thin but it's delicate and easy-drinking so it works. Doesn't feel like a 10%er. 4

Glad I tried. Good.

375 ml bottle into chalice; 2014 vintage, bottled on 8/13/2015. Pours hazy dark brown color with a 1 finger dense and rocky khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice soapy lacing clings around the glass, with some light streaming carbonation. Aromas of raisin, plum, fig, cherry, orange peel, red grape, pear, apple, cognac, toasted oak, pepper, clove, caramel, brown sugar, brown bread, light chocolate/vanilla, and yeast/oak earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/spicy yeast, cognac barrel, and dark/bready malt notes; with good strength. Taste of big raisin, plum, fig, cherry, orange peel, red grape, pear, apple, cognac, toasted oak, pepper, clove, caramel, brown sugar, brown bread, light chocolate/vanilla, and yeast/oak earthiness. Moderate yeast/oak spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of raisin, plum, fig, cherry, orange peel, grape, pear, apple, cognac, toasted oak, pepper, clove, caramel, brown sugar, brown bread, and yeast/oak earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, cognac barrel, and dark/bready malt flavors; with great malt/barrel/yeast spiciness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light-moderate dryness from yeast and oak spiciness as well. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a smooth, fairly creamy/bready, and lightly slick/sticky balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with only a small warmth lingering after the finish. Overall this is an outstanding BA quadrupel style. All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, cognac barrel, and dark/bready malt flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the big ABV. A highly enjoyable offering.

Poured from a 375 mL bottle into a tulip. This was released in 2012 and has a date (I assume "Best by" of 10/10/16).

Appearance: Pours a muddy dark brown and leaves a finger of off-white head that lingers for a short while before leaving a layer atop the beer. (4)

Smell: Spicy cognac leads the way along with some Belgian yeast, raisins, figs, hint of licorice. (4.25)

Taste: Starts with the cognac and then moves into some dark fruits, a bit of caramel, some cloves and finishes a tad bitter. The cognac really helped this one out. (4)

Mouth-feel: Low to medium carb with a fairly watery, just a tad sticky, medium body. Finishes really smooth but a bit bitter and spiced. (3.75)

Overall: The cognac barrel had a lot of influence on this - and plays a big role in the flavor. Really drinkable, with not a whole lot else to go with the cognac, but that's fine for this one. Reminded me a bit more of a spiced brown ale then a quad. Tasty. (4.25)

Enjoyed at cafe Gollem in Antwerp on 30SEP15. Opted to splurge a bit and had two 0.25l glasses of this on draft, each at €6.70.

Served in a small tulip, it was a deep, opaque brown color. Couldn't tell what the carbo situation was, but it had a rocky, chunky tan head. The foam lasted well, with excellent lacework left behind. Aroma was of choco and alcohol, mocha, raisins, and molasses. Almost had a hint of bourbon, though it was aged in cognac barrels. Body was medium, and it had hardly any prickle at all. Could have been fuller, but it was still acceptable.

Tasted a little caramel with some mocha and choco at the outset. Then it was some raisins and currants marinated in cognac, the latter of which was easy to detect. Quite warming and pleasurable. Prosit!
