12.7oz bottle.. huh. 2014 vintage, so 6 years old. "00330" on the side. I guess I'm lucky #330!
No head, dark, root beer tinged, tons of sediment. Smells and tastes like a delicious raisin bread that has been dipped in bourbon. Smooth sweet thick malt that is mostly a clean (nearly flavorless) vehicle for warm dark savory baked bread, chocolate coco mix, slight alcohol burn and the dark fruits of much variety. 'Tis a shame there isn't more carbonation, but this is a 6+ year old brew we're talkin' bout

Bottled on 2/24/16 (Vintage 2015)
Pours a thin dirty brown body that resembles anything between watered-down chocolate milk and sewer water; slight bubbling disappears almost immediately, and no head formation beyond that; nonexistent lacing. One of the more visually unappealing brews I’ve come across.
Aromas of baked apples dominate from the start, leading into slight brown sugar, and a sort of vague vanilla and toffee combo; some fig and plum evolve in the bouquet over time.
Taste shows some fig and plum overtones, with slight toffee creeping through the thinness of the profile along with an increasingly awkward fermenting raisin and tinge of dirty mineral water on the finish.
Mouthfeel is flat-out watery as it touches the tongue and possesses an almost nonexistent carbonation; light oaky grit to go with a minor malty sweetness as it hits the mid-palate; increasingly drying with a touch of syrupy sweetness, it manages to thin out further into the finish.
A wreck of a bourbon barrel-aged beer with no redeeming factors beyond a slightly competent base to its aroma and flavor profile. Unfortunately, though, this one will be best remembered for how comprehensively weak and tepid it remained from start to finish.

On tap. Poured a murky, cloudy, dark brown color with a small, tan head of foam. It smelled of bourbon, dried dark fruits and toffee. Rich malty flavor with bourbon, oak vanilla and dried dark fruits.

Poured from 12.7 fl oz bottle into glass. Label has bottle date as '13/11/14'. Appears to be a synthetic cork bottle stopper.
Dark brown, murky body. Any head quickly dissipates. No lacing.
Aroma of prune, raisin, dates, bourbon barrel/oak, brown sugar. Like dark fruits soaked in bourbon whiskey. Overall kind of a sweet aroma.
Taste is more sour than the sweeter aroma. Also more of a red wine aspect. The dark fruits are a sweet expression. There are some spices too, more toward the anise/licorice taste. Just a slight taste of burnt brown sugar, and bitter coffee.
Mouth feel is medium, but very flat. Very minimal carbonation, if at all expressed. The body is so murky that it is difficult to see any rising bubbles, and the surface does not reveal any bubble bursts.
The lack of carbonation kind of deflates the rest of the good aspects of the beer. The high point is the aroma, but the taste does not exactly follow in the same high regard.

Murky copper-brown with no head. Aromas of figs, prunes, raisins, oak, and Bourbon. Although these are typically appealing descriptors, the aroma as a whole is a tiny bit rotten and stale smelling. Not as bad as the cabbage from their Cognac BA version though. Taste is also better, but one dimensional as the oak dominates and none of the normal fruity characteristics of a quad show through. For the style, thin and undercarbed. Much better out there for the money.

375 ml caged and corked bottle, 2015 vintage, bottle number 00612. Label says bourbon barrel aged. Served in a DFH Signature Glass, the beer pours dark brown with a bit of a reddish tinge to it, along with about an inch tan head that stuck around a while. There's also a good amount of lacing. I like the aroma, the brew smells like bourbon, vanilla, dark fruit, wood and brown sugar. It's a mostly sweet smelling beer. The taste is sweet and fruity, it tastes similar to the aroma but with the addition of some sweet spiciness and a bit of chocolate. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it's slick and is well carbonated. I liked this brew, certainly worth picking up if you haven't had it before! With that being said, it is pricey at $16.99 a bottle.

There seems to be some confusion. Their website talks of Jack Dainels barrels for 2014, but my label is speaking of Islay Single Malt, and there can be no mistake when you drink it.. If you don't get the Single Malt thing (NOT talking pedestrian scotch here), you might not dig this. This is a unique and complex beer. Typical of European strong beers, they are so well balanced - masked even - that, at 10%, you may be headed for a hard landing on your ear without seeing it coming. It has the characteristic cloudiness of a good natural Belgian, with a strongly sweet and syrupy foundation of malt and slight licorice. It uncharacteristically - for a Belgian - has an exceptionally strong and high pitched hoppy bite to it that I find to some extent is out of phase (Are not we all sick of insanely bright and unbalanced IPAs?). If it were not for the essence of this beer - the very prominent smokey earthiness of peat (that's the Single Malt's offering), it would be over the top. In this case, as slightly out of balance as the bitterness is, I find it adds to the intrigue. Even at $18 a bottle, I would not hesitate to have it again. If you see it, and it is something that might be in your wheelhouse, don't hesitate, as you likely won't see it again. Not a brew you'd drink every day, just like single malt, but a very successful effort at creating something unique and entertaining. I enjoyed it!

Hazy and murky dark brown, with a fluffy tan head with decent retention. Smells of sour cabbage (hope it's not a bad bottle) and some bourbon, cocoa, chocolate, coffee but all of these very feint underneath the pickled cabbage. The taste is sweet, kind of, with milk chocolate, dried fruit and some coffee, all of that hidden underneath a layer of sour cabbage. Dubious beer.
