thanks to drlovemd87 for sharing this one. cool to see its made by a brewery i respect so much, thats not really evident anywhere on the label, but the beer is great, seemingly a cross between a tripel and a belgian pale. it has a lot of grain going on, wheat and oats at least i would suspect in addition to the pale barley. its hazy but heady, clean and not laden with sediment at all. fruity aroma, pears and white peaches, bubblegum yeast and oxidation, wheat again too. in the flavor, the hops shock me, this is super bitter on the back end, way more than the nose ever lets on, it seems thats where all the hops go. a little grassy and vegetal i guess, less fresh, more just bitterness, pungent and strong. lots of fruity esters on the yeast, pineapple flavored rock candy comes to mind, hints of toffee and honey too. bitter though, not sweet as it goes down. a cool switch up of the conventional pattern for the style. well carbonated with a nice body and softer feel, kind of rich without sacrificing drinkability. if this was available and affordable here, i would keep it around. a great little twist on what we all expect in the style, yeast driven for sure, but interesting in the grain and hop profiles too. nicely done.
