The pour is gold in color with a tall white head. Grass and straw give a nice earthy quality to the beer. Lots of different citrus notes including lemon, orange, and some grapefruit peel. A lot of yeast and a slight mustiness. The flavor is quite dry, which is nice. Heavy on the lemon zest notes with a hint of orange. A nice straw character and a decent malt/bread note which does provide some sweetness.

Poured a rich gold with two fingers of bright white head. Gentle yeasty aroma with some light lemon and fruity sweetness.

Moderate carbonation and a light, crisp mouthfeel. Bready malt and light spice up followed by some banana, melon, and herbal grassiness on the tail end.

Pleasant saison, although the funky elements are pretty subtle. Drinks dry and crisp.

B+

750ml into a tulip. Pours a crystal clear mid tone pure copper, towering off white retains like a dairy product, excellent lacing.

Aroma is dominated by strong pine and citrus hops, the strength masks the saison below but delicious none the less. After acclimating to the hops the earth and spices below come into shape. With warmth socks appear.

A hoppy saison, very. Again pine and citrus dominates. And again the earth and spices are sensed but masked. A nice dry crisp bite as the aftertaste begins. Ends with the yeast and hops blending, fading slowly. Moderately bitter. Thin to medium bodied mouthfeel.

I imagine this will vary dramatically in flavor with age. The hops will fade and a complexity will be revealed that far exceeds what is delivered fresh. No apparent date on the bottle.

Thanks to my friend Ricky for sharing this one.

Nice creamy thick 1 finger head fades slower with lots of lacing, hazy honey orange color.

Nose is huge, lots of wheat and sweet malts, candy malts, light butter nut like, light estery booze with hints if apple and candied white raisin, hints of saison spices and grainy malt, light white caramel.

Taste semi sweet, candy and plenty, caramel white like, little candy shell, light butter candy, chewy nougat like and little saison grainy, light wheat and toasted wheat, grainy light dough, light saison spices and hint of citrus. Also fair spicy hops, with decent bitterness, some warning estery booze with more candied apple and white raisin again. Finish is drier with light warming booze and esters, light sweet candy flavours like candy shell, hint bitterness.

Mouth is med bod, little thicker with nice carb, light warming booze.

Overall pretty nice, more wheat wine but some saison, bit heavy overall but fairly tasty.

Pours a slightly hazy, dark golden orange color with a massive three finger, frothy white head that very slowly fades into a lasting cap. Large chunks of soapy lacing left behind. A bit over carbonated.

Earthy, floral aroma with a nice balance of resinous hops, earthy funk, pale malt and crisp, light fruit. Perfume like with more hops in the nose than expected. Earthy grass and straw notes followed by some apricot and apple.

Medium bodied with tight carbonation and some crisp, champagne like effervescence. Again, this is surprisingly hop forward for the style with some dry, piny bitterness that compliments the funky yeast, lingering throughout into a dry finish. Earthy, dry and resinous with a prominent pine flavor. This is followed by the earthy, funky yeast that gives off some barnyard, grass and straw followed by some crisp fruit. Hints of apple, pear and apricot give this beer a touch of sweetness that balances out the hops and funk. Subtle alcohol presence in the finish but the ABV is well masked. Complex and flavorful but a bit too hoppy and over carbonated for my liking.

Firstly, this is a To Øl beer that is contract brewed at De Proef. Hopefully it will be moved to the appropriate location soon. Picked this up at West Lakeview Liquors. Served in a Surly Darkness glass.

A - A big white foam settles to a thick cap and some splotchy lace. Lightly hazed golden body.

S - Woah - that's one hoppy Saison. Big Simcoe and Amarillo aroma, with tropical fruits and a hint of cat pee. Some farmhouse yeast, grains, and sugary malts - perhaps a touch too sweet for the style. There's a hint of funk in there as well.

T - If I tried this blind I'd probably guess Belgian IPA, or even a bizzaro DIPA. Lots of tropical, citrus, and herbal hop flavors, sugary malt backbone, and very low amount of Belgian yeast character. I don't get any of the advertised wild yeast either.

M - Medium body, nice pleasant carbonation, and a lightly sticky finish with plenty of residual hop oils and resins. Never would have guessed this was 8%!

D - A very strange beer, and one that will probably disappoint if an authentic Saison is expected. I expected far more from the primary farmhouse yeast and the brett, and I think the candi sugar addition makes this a ittle bit sweet - perhaps it will funk up down the road? A beer I'd drink again, but not at the outrageous price of $17.99/750ml. Maybe I'll get another crack at this on draft sometime.

Beautiful light amber color, very clean. Average white foam.
Fresh, hoppy smell, with some spicy note. Light bretta.
In the mouth too, good taste, alcohol present but not too much.
Pleasant, with a light bretta note. Interesting.
Light fruity note (white peach), and something floral. And a good hop.
Fresh and pleasant.

Pours a golden colour, clear, light bead. Head is lovely, generous with good fluffy density, clumpy lace. looks great.

Smells pleasant, fairly fresh. Light grain and distinct fruity notes - citrus, pineapple, pear. Could use more edge, particularly on the funky side. Seems a bit light and airy.

Taste has more edge. Very hoppy from the start, resiny and woody with at times a chemically dank bitterness. Some lemon pith, roasted coriander seed, wattle and soil notes. Decent flavours but a bit one-sided, some more sweetness is needed here or just more malt upfront.

Quite a nice texture actually. Bit of pull from the yeast, but it fills out the mouth nicely. Shame there's not such a malt presence in the flavour.

Tastes nice, but it's not an amazing drinker. Just pleasant.

Thanks, Alex. Bottle into Narke tulip.

A - Pours a clear golden color, white head, spotty lace.

S - Hops and funk on the nose, pretty straight-forward here, followed by some sweeter malty notes, and bananas as well.

T - Pretty hop-forward, very subtle/if any funk, light citrus. The nose is quite different then what I'm tasting...weird. Anyway, not exactly what I think of when I want a Saison.

M - Light, good carbonation, semi-dry/oily finish.

O - Not my cup-o-tea, as this isn't really a Saison to me. There's tons of others I'd rather have, that cost less. Probably wouldn't have again, unless it was free. Not necessarily bad, but there's too many other options out there. Meh.
