Nice looking but fairly standard saison. Mildly cloudy. Orange. Big white head. Good lacing.

Grassy, mineral hops pop up first. They're followed up by relatively clean saison yeast notes - mild barnyard with a fruity edge (apricots, peaches, plums). There's some sort of vinous flavor running through the beer, but I'm not sure where it comes from. It's all underscored by a backbone of fresh, sweet grain. Good stuff.

Very mildly sweet throughout with a dry, hop-bitter finish. The only fault that I can find is a mild medicinal note that doesn't quite work for me, but it's a very minor consideration. It's a tasty saison with a good deal of hop flavor - I want to say it's a European variety, but I'm bad at such identifications. At any rate, it drinks easily, and there's no real booziness to it.

Good but fairly standard mouthfeel. Lots of fine prickly bubbles. The beer's sweetness is well cut by the finish.

It's a very good saison. Sort of like a European version of Stillwater Stateside. Not much to complain about. To Ol and De Proef know how to make beer. Good stuff.

Poured a rich gold with two fingers of bright white head. Gentle yeasty aroma with some light lemon and fruity sweetness.

Moderate carbonation and a light, crisp mouthfeel. Bready malt and light spice up followed by some banana, melon, and herbal grassiness on the tail end.

Pleasant saison, although the funky elements are pretty subtle. Drinks dry and crisp.

A: Poured from a bottle to a pint glass. Had a yellowish color and a cloudy consistency. There was an inch and a half of foamy, fairly long-lasting head. Good lacing.

S: A good amount of citrus, along with yeast and malt in the aroma.

T: Tasted of citrus (lemon, grapefruit), malt, yeast, and a surprising amount of hops. A somewhat different flavor for a saison (not a whole lot of funk), but pretty solid.

M: A well-carbonated with a clean finish. Medium-bodied.

O: Definitely a different take on the saison, but well worth a shot. Drinkable.

Shared by yourefragile. Thanks. Beer is a non stop carbonation monster, big white head, high retention, stiff peaks, lots of carbonation, annoyingly so.

Mild fruitiness in the nose, bready.

Beer is mildly earthy, bitter, sweet, with a mild tartness and bitterness at the back. Eh...not my favorite and not a repeat. Sorry.

The pour is gold in color with a tall white head. Grass and straw give a nice earthy quality to the beer. Lots of different citrus notes including lemon, orange, and some grapefruit peel. A lot of yeast and a slight mustiness. The flavor is quite dry, which is nice. Heavy on the lemon zest notes with a hint of orange. A nice straw character and a decent malt/bread note which does provide some sweetness.

Bottle courtesy of yourefragile. Served in a SAVOR wine glass. Pours a mostly-clear deep golden color with a nice, fluffy white head. Really great retention. Nose has some subtle fruit along with a bit of bread. Flavor has some bitterness and light earth in the background. Medium body and slightly chewy. Not getting much of the sourness or hops as described. Enjoyable, but not something I would seek out again

Poured from a bottle into a snifter.

Appearance: Pours a cloudy amber with two fingers of cloudy off white head that fades to a layer on top of the pour and leaves mild lacing.

Smell: Light and herbal with just a touch of malt sweetness. Very nice.

Taste: Just like the smell, the main components are light and herbal. There is just a hint of citrus tartness and some bitterness in the finish. Very nice and easy to drink.

Mouthfeel: Medium body with smooth and tingly carbonation and a mildly dry finish.

Overall: This is so easy to drink. This is just what I want from a Saison. Big fan and I would have another.

A: Golden-straw colored body. Large white head. Decent retention. Spotty lacing.

S: Quite a blast of hops up front. Pine, lemon, grapefruit. Nice, gentle farmhouse character.

T: Like the nose this is quite hoppy as there is a fair bit of pine throughout. Grapefruit and lemon citrus notes shine through. Mild spiciness from the yeast. Soft farmhouse notes - earth and funk.

M: Well carbonatied, medium bodied, nice crispness in the finish. Refreshing with each sip.

O: An interesting and quite nice saison. One of the best new saisons that I've had in a while.

First had: on tap at TJ's, Paoli, PA

A very nice saison. This beer was served in a tulip glass, a cloud amber color, with a thin wispy white head. Aroma was sweet with malts, slightly fruity, Belgian yeast. Biscuity taste, yeasty, mild grassy funk, ripe melons, meadow flowers and grasses, herbal hops, light citrus zest, light peppery spice. Smooth and crisp mouthfeel, medium-bodied, very pleasant and drinkable.

Thanks, Alex. Bottle into Narke tulip.

A - Pours a clear golden color, white head, spotty lace.

S - Hops and funk on the nose, pretty straight-forward here, followed by some sweeter malty notes, and bananas as well.

T - Pretty hop-forward, very subtle/if any funk, light citrus. The nose is quite different then what I'm tasting...weird. Anyway, not exactly what I think of when I want a Saison.

M - Light, good carbonation, semi-dry/oily finish.

O - Not my cup-o-tea, as this isn't really a Saison to me. There's tons of others I'd rather have, that cost less. Probably wouldn't have again, unless it was free. Not necessarily bad, but there's too many other options out there. Meh.

Firstly, this is a To Øl beer that is contract brewed at De Proef. Hopefully it will be moved to the appropriate location soon. Picked this up at West Lakeview Liquors. Served in a Surly Darkness glass.

A - A big white foam settles to a thick cap and some splotchy lace. Lightly hazed golden body.

S - Woah - that's one hoppy Saison. Big Simcoe and Amarillo aroma, with tropical fruits and a hint of cat pee. Some farmhouse yeast, grains, and sugary malts - perhaps a touch too sweet for the style. There's a hint of funk in there as well.

T - If I tried this blind I'd probably guess Belgian IPA, or even a bizzaro DIPA. Lots of tropical, citrus, and herbal hop flavors, sugary malt backbone, and very low amount of Belgian yeast character. I don't get any of the advertised wild yeast either.

M - Medium body, nice pleasant carbonation, and a lightly sticky finish with plenty of residual hop oils and resins. Never would have guessed this was 8%!

D - A very strange beer, and one that will probably disappoint if an authentic Saison is expected. I expected far more from the primary farmhouse yeast and the brett, and I think the candi sugar addition makes this a ittle bit sweet - perhaps it will funk up down the road? A beer I'd drink again, but not at the outrageous price of $17.99/750ml. Maybe I'll get another crack at this on draft sometime.

Lively pour, with a bright golden orange color and a ton of carbonation producing a mountainous head that wisps and sticks all over the sides of the glass. The nose is fantastic right after pouring the glass. Floral, grapefruit and just a trace of barnyard funk. This is an incredibly easy beer to drink. The flavors blend harmoniously. There is a solid malt presence that really softens the citrus, funk and bitterness and creates a great overall beer. Plenty of carbonation, but not enough to dominate the palate, in fact it really softens up as you drink it and is one of the best qualities of this beer. Didn't know what to expect with this one, but am very happy I chose it. I will look for this again.

B+

750ml into a tulip. Pours a crystal clear mid tone pure copper, towering off white retains like a dairy product, excellent lacing.

Aroma is dominated by strong pine and citrus hops, the strength masks the saison below but delicious none the less. After acclimating to the hops the earth and spices below come into shape. With warmth socks appear.

A hoppy saison, very. Again pine and citrus dominates. And again the earth and spices are sensed but masked. A nice dry crisp bite as the aftertaste begins. Ends with the yeast and hops blending, fading slowly. Moderately bitter. Thin to medium bodied mouthfeel.

I imagine this will vary dramatically in flavor with age. The hops will fade and a complexity will be revealed that far exceeds what is delivered fresh. No apparent date on the bottle.

Served in a stemless globe.

Thanks to hannydawg for sharing this bottle!

Jazzed to try another offering from this gypsy. It pours a clear amber topped by over two fingers of dirty white foam. The nose comprises molasses, leek, powdered sugar, pine needles, orange peel, and chocolate. It certainly sounds like a strange combination of aromas, but it all somehow comes together nicely. The taste holds notes of clove, light black pepper, light cinnamon, wheat, orange rind, banana, and light peach skin. It seems to be hoppy on the nose, but the hops meld nicely with the yeast and the spices when everything hits the tongue. The body is a light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a grainy feel. Overall, a very nice saison, one that deftly balances spice, spicy yeast, and hops. Good times.
