portion of a 750ml bottle served in a Belgian snifter.

Pours the color of honey; hazy.

Aroma: spot on given the "Tropical Tripel": there's a substantial note of coconut, pineapple, citrus and other tropical fruits plus a Belgian tripel in the background. A subtle trace of oak.

Flavor: the base ale makes a stronger appearance in tasting where it is nicely balanced by the fruits and a hint of coconut. Appropriately sweet but eventually leaves a mildly bitter aftertaste.

Served on tap at The Mayor in Fort Collins.

Tropical Tripel is a hazy amber orange with a half inch of creamy white head. It settles slowly and leaves a perfect sheet of lace on the inside if the glass.

Aroma is fruity, tropical in a way, in with a fantastic Belgian yeast character

Flavor is bold but still in keeping with the Tripel style. Pale likened malts and lots of it. Balanced by a healthy dose of fruity hops and that bitterness that comes with them. Great depth and balance, expertly constructed.

Mouthfeel is medium-light in body and nicely carbonated.

Overall an excellent tripel. I was hesitant to buy this at the store due to the high price ans modest reviews but I may have to reconsider.

Tropical Tripel is a collision of orange and gold. It is rather hazy. There might even be a few specs of yeast swimming around. Backlighting gives it more of an orange, slightly amber look. A soft white head covers the top. It stands just under a finger tall and is quick to recede to a surface covering. Lacing was little sticky, but lighter.

It smells very fruity and sweet up front. Orange, pineapple, and peach notes are readily apparently throughout. There might even be a little white grape here. It features strong earthy, grainy, and musky scents. I know Brett is in the mix, but it doesn’t smell very funky. It does feature that classic Belgian yeast spiciness. Clove and pepper are the most notable spices. Unfortunately, I’m not getting any coconut. That’s slightly disappointing. Alcohol is somewhat noticeable, but it doesn’t come through all that strong.

The flavor is pretty impressive. The strong fruit flavors kick things off. Peach, orange, pineapple, and even apple flavors are present. They blend nicely with the Belgian yeast spicy notes of clove and pepper. I expected they might be at odds, but that’s not the case. It is very earthy, grainy, and musky. Despite the presence of Brett, it’s really not funky. Perhaps it’s just masked by the fruit and spice flavors. I actually am getting some coconut flavor here, and I like it. This beer’s all the better for it. Good stuff. Alcohol is there. It’s not really warm or hot though. Just there. Finishes fruity, spicy, and earthy.

The body is on the lighter side of medium. Carbonation is nice and soft. It’s maybe just a tad thin to really feel smooth. Nevertheless, it goes down pretty easy, especially for a beer of its size. Not bad at all.

Tropical Tripel is a pretty good collaborative effort between De Proef and the fellas from Cigar City. Despite the fact that it is sweet and incorporates some interesting twists to the Tripel style (peach and coconut), it works! It’s tasty beer that’s really growing on me with each passing sip. Easy recommendation.
