this is the same as the saison, packaging and labeling variances from place to place i guess. awesome beer though, bold white head three inches tall in a wine glass above a cloudy and muted pale looking straw color. it smells great to me, a slightly stale crockery grain profile and a yeast that mixes both saison and belgian blonde together, which is a nice combination that dries out any potential sweetness in the finish. the taste is yeast driven, but still with that cereal grain dynamic. crispy in the finish, not super funky, but with a dried grass essence as it winds down. not overly complex, but it doesn't need to be. at just 6% abv and with a nice fluffy body and effervescing carbonation, i don't need many more layers to this. its a rather mindless drink of high quality belgian brew, just right for spring. freshness may be an issue with my bottle, but its held up pretty well i think, any stale flavors sort of work with the unique yeast. fun stuff, light and easy going.

33cl bottle cellared 6-7 months. Didn't look that leggy on the pour but in the bulb of the tulip glass, it's quite opaque and thick-looking, light honey colored, with a rapidly clearing scrim of large-bubbled, ivory foam. Really good in the nose -- hops like a summer field, orange flowers (I suppose we don't get those in summery, but anyway), hay, grass, clover, vanilla, caramel. A hoppy attack, tempered and complicated (in a good way) by a bit of caramel malt, strawberry, banana, citrus flavors, some cilantro and herby notes to boot. Just a teensy bit of mineral on the finish. Lots of feel, too -- creamy but effervescent, a bit to chew on, but not so's to put off the next sip. Def'ly not your Flemish opa's blond, a bit more modern (especially in the nose). But even as I say that there's a bit of Orval-like profile to it.

Brewed at De Proefbrouwerij for Vliegende Paard Brouwers.
33cl Bottle: BBD 29 May 2014. Poured into my huge 'Judas' glass on 5 Aug 2013 during a Belgian Tasting Evening with myself!
Looked fine in the glass: bright golden body with a large head (you can really pour fast into a Judas glass) of snow white bubbles.
Light nose of yeasts, hop notes and freshly cut grass.
The taste was also light, delicate might be a better word. Hints of flavours rather than 'in your face' powerful features. Slight citrus feel to the piece, with a mini grain undertone. I found it pleasant enough but it was completely overshadowed by the other Belgian brews I had around it.
In short: a refreshing but weak Belgian offering, start with this, don't have it mid-session.
