Color is a darkish amber in the Brewery Vivant tulip. Plenty of foam and a nice sudsy mouthfeel. Not much aroma for an IPA.
Moderate bitterness makes this quite drinkable. It's a little sweet. They should jack this one up-- it would make an excellent malt liquor. Well, maybe it's too hoppy for that. And the hops actually are quite tasty. Pine and resins and not bad on the aromatics, though it doesn't come through to the nose much.
Malty and quite drinkable. If it was cheap enough I might get another batch. Poured from the 16 oz can purchased at Trader Joes in San Diego.

Great for the price...faint fruity hops on the nose, pleasant citrus hops, albeit light and muddled, paired with a surprisingly robust and simultaneously tingly and creamy mouthfeel with a dry yet thin finish. Hmmm...sort of strange, but pleasant to sip on or even session out on.
Solid for the value.

June 24th, 2015 - Tap 79 is a flavorful kick in the teeth, starting with a lemon scent in the nose, pierced with grapefruit. The body is thick, with plenty of booziness, and a punch akin to a double IPA. A large cotton candy note swells on the taste alongside a bubble gum taste, and once that pops, reveals pineapple and mango. These are most prominent in the aftertaste too, leaving me cycling between bitterness and fruitiness.

Type: 12-oz. can
Glass: Figueroa Mountain shaker pint glass
From: Trader Joe’s in La Mesa (San Diego), Calif.
Price: $6.99 for a 6-pack

Consumed: Oct. 26, 2016
Reviewed as: American IPA

Don’t really have high hopes for this one. Had seen it at Trader Joe’s for a few years now, but finally pulled the trigger, even though Golden Road now makes the beers for Trader Joe’s. #CraftAdjace
Poured a deep gold yellow clear color with 4-to-5 fingers of rocky white head. Lots of bubble streams coming up from the bottom of the glass. Excellent-to-world class uneven foamy lacing. World-class retention. (Sight - 4.00)
Smelled a pleasant whiff of citrus zest, floral, lemon and grapefruit pulp up front. Also getting Citra, mango, fresh pine, Irish Spring soap and a touch of herbal. Not overwhelming, but not too thin. (Smell - 3.75)
Taste follows the nose for the most part. Soapy pine, lemon, citrus zest, Citra, leafy mint, Irish Spring soap, herbal, bitter mango and more tropical flavors. (Taste - 3.50)
Light body. Creamy texture. Average carbonation. Abrupt, citrusy finish. (Feel - 3.75)
Not too complex, just a solid IPA. And pretty cheap as well. I will be back for sure. (Overall - 3.75)

Poured into a wine glass from a 12 oz can
A - pours a light translucent golden orange with a half finger white heads and some very sticky lacing/legs
S - Dank, hop oil, grassy, cracker/belgian yeast, booze, very dry grains/malt, citrus, pine and it's sap, slight sweet and so much more hops.
T - huge pine and citrus rind up front, the booze is up front which is different but awesome. dry, toasted and some slightly sweet malt/grains, cracker yeast, slight sugar, the flowers are like potpourri, the hops are huge and the malt isn't much of a "backbone", very earthy, crisp water, lots of soil acid and hop oils.
M - medium plus body, nice complexity, nice balance, medium plus carbonation and acidity. A huge hop bomb indeed.
D/O - Refreshing, smooth, tasty but, extremely dry. Really a nice DIPA for the price, I am pleasantly surprised and very happy. A ale I can turn into my "daily" drinker as it were. Not for aging, not for impressing but, simply for price and taste this is one awesome beer. A trader joe's exclusive made by golden road.
Final thoughts - At only $1 a can and a very nice 8% ABV, this is a can't miss if you have a TJ's in your area.

A nice Pale Ale style with an added "West Coastin" IPA hop profile. Picked up a 4-pak at Trader Joes--at $6 I couldn't pass it up. Poured into a Bent Paddle (MN) tulip glass, with nice golden orange color. Pretty decent lacing. It lingers as you sip. The aroma fills the nose with hints of tropical fruit, hop juice, and slight piney-ness. Nice mouthfeel. Creamy, yet dissipating on the pallet. Smooth, yet flavorful. Definitely more of a Pale Ale than a West Coast IPA. It's refreshingly nice, and I enjoy the limited hop profoundness. Its not overpowering. I get a nice malt base with notes of papaya, pineapple, and citrus. Lemony as it fades. Overall, an enjoyable beer and worth the purchase. Take this on your next hike, or crack one open on a Friday summer night.

Not a stand out beer, but definitely a nice west coast IPA. Some might even call it a pale ale but the ABV does essentially warrant an IPA status. Decent bitterness - slight citrus finish - good carbonation. At $5.99 at TJs for a pint can 4pk it's worth a try if you haven't had it yet.

I get this at Trader Joes every time. It is always a clean, refreshing IPA that goes down smooth with citrus flavor and a light bitterness. You cannot go wrong having this in the fridge at all times. There is nothing to be ashamed with a local label when it is so good. Enjoy while Golden Road is willing to brand it for TJ. Love this beer.

last review was in August?
wasn't expecting much, but it isn't bad.... nice creamy head floating on top, crisp and colorful. no carbonation though, which would really help its cause. canned on 2/29. it's alright, ya know? it's actually pretty good as i delve into it a little deeper. almost a Blind Pig....
