A: Transparent

S: Smells of classic Pilsener

T: Pilsener basic, no big surprise.

M: not last long, slightly bitter with a little grain

D: Getting drunk easily but without much flavor

Strong commercial without much flavor and not very original. Wood is easely, often served at the bar or in a can.

I'm not big on hoppy beers and I honestly think this is the first German Pilsener I've had (sort of new to the beer scene), but I could see this being the one that gets me deeper into the hop. This isn't bad at all. Some have said that it's a commercial and "beer for the masses" type beer. Well clearly there's nothing wrong with that because like I said I think it may be a good stepping stone for me to try beers that are hoppier.

Enjoyed from the bottle in a pint glass. This nice pils pours a pale light yellow with a solid head of white foam that fades to a thick ring and thin layer with moderate lacing. Nose is subtle and light with light grain notes, light sweet honey malts, and light herbal notes. Flavors exceed the nose light grain and cracker notes with a subtle light citrus note on the middle that fades to a sweet grain background with a nice lager note and subtle bread flavors. Excellent mouth feel, crisp and refreshing with a clean finish. Solid.

Poured 50 cL can into wine glass
A: Clear golden pale lager color with okay head and a bit of lace
S: Nondescript with more hop character than faint malt aroma. Initial whiff was slightly creamy malt, followed by some faint skunky hops...not disagreeable, but not pleasant either. After a couple minutes it's subsided a bit and the malt is coming out a tad more strongly.
T, M & O: Drinkable but nothing special, it's got okay balance, but the taste is just not there. It's week, a little skunky on the finish, already going flat and lacking carbonation, and overall flavor is not present enough to enliven the experience. The aftertaste leaves some weak hoppy bitterness that, being completely devoid of any other flavor, imparts a faintly metallic, herbal and skunky coating in the mouth.

I had this on tap last night and it was decent enough to make me want to buy a can and take a few notes. I can't believe this is the same beer.

Brown 33cl bottle poured into a Veltins Pilsner stemmed glass. This was the first beer of my Luxembourg brewed tasting evening.

Lovely clean, clear, golden yellow body, with a smart white head. As often, the head soon fell away to leave a wisp and collar.

Usual lager non-aroma (I always give a score of 3 unless I can smell something).

Dry and crisp, getting sweeter as it warmed a little. It has a soft feel to it, but came over a bit boring.

Bog standard lager with no stand out features, run of the mill stuff.

Few aromas in the nose, a mouth with very low bitterness artificial unpleasant. Taste medium and lack of flavor despite some presence of hops. And although the flatness of flavor dominates, it is not as easy to drink as unpleasant. Just bad and artificial lager.

12 oz. bottle:

Best before 2016/05/26
Botlling date 2015/05/26

Pours straw yellow with a thin white head that thins and eventually fades. Trailing lace slides down the glass with minimal sticking.

The smell is of cracker-like grain, hay, sulfur, lime. Smells like a cross between a pils and a mass-produced generic Euro Pale Lager.

The taste is of sweet grain, cracker, a touch of lime with a floral, dry finish. Clean and crisp.

Taken for what it is - border of mass-produced pils and mass-produced EPL, it's not bad. Simple, dry, rather refreshing. Easy enough to drink.

Crystal clear and golden with a frothy white mostly lasting head. Aromas if any is straw, hay, some resinous hop character. Fizzy, thin and light bodied. Light malty with a touch of bitterness, something to just quench thirst without much taste if it were not giving you straight away a headache.

Paid a little over 3EUR for a 6pack of 250mL bottles in Lux.

*Reviewed on 07.07.2005

Golden base, small white head, great retention, good signs of lacing. Small notes of hops, but relatively weak.

The taste was straight up average, the hop flavor is alright but there isn't much of a presence. Average aftertaste. A little harsh, nothing special. Given the alcohol at 4.8% I was not too impressed, but it could serve as a session beer.

Final Thought: A touch better than the American macros.

From my notes 5/29/2007 pours a one-finger white head that fades slowly leaving an excellent lace. Crystal clear amber color. Slight hoppy nose. Good carbonation and light bodied. Flavor is like a typical euro lager, hoppy, uninspiring. Clean finish. €2.90 ($3.97) on-tap 250ml glass from Hilton Hotel Luxembourg, Luxembourg.

Bofferding's mediocre style ranges just among the very reduced ranks of the grand duchy. Alongside most of its contendors, this one manages to look, smell and taste like your american macro. Not worth even making an effort to believe on tap it would change, it's worthless. This beer is definetly another reason to cross into belgium while still thirsty.

Pours a clear, straw color. 1/2 inch head of a white color. Decent retention and decent lacing. Smells of euro yeast, pale malt, hint of sweet malt, hint of hop, hint of wheat. Fits the style of a German Pilsner. Mouth feel is sharp and crisp, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of strong pale malt, strong euro yeast, hint of hop, hint of wheat, hint of sweet malt, and hint of metallic. Overall, better appearance than I expected, but otherwise a standard euro German Pilsner.

500ml can into Jupiler beer glass in Ghent, Belgium. Reviewed live.

A: Three finger head of soft fluffy character, fair thickness, and good retention. Clear yellow colour.

Sm: Light scent of cream and generic barley. At least the barley is fresh and not stale. Or is it?

T: Generic moderately full barley and slight cream. Two acts, not three, which may be for the best. Some stale bland hops entre in on the climax - very unwelcome. This beer should have kept it more simple. Sort of refreshing, but uninspired bland and far from bold.

Mf: Smooth and wet. A bit too thick. A generic mouthfeel. Suitable for the style, but not tailored to the flavours of the body per se.

Dr: Average ABV, great price, and low quality. A "student beer". You can easily down this, but you wouldn't want to.

Appearance: Sparkling clear yellow-gold that is impregnated with rising carbon dioxide streamers that race to the small surface in the standard flute style Bofferding Pils. A bleach white head boldly retains it looks all the way down. Average carbonation.

Smell: Nicely rounded collection of lightly roasted Malt and bitter Hops swirl just above the surface of the beer. Offers a bit more than the usual bland Pils.

Taste: Bottom-fermented, as all the Bofferding Beers are. A light, well-balanced, but tasty offering that extracts all the flavors that the Pilsener Malts have to offer, and mixes it perfectly with the bitter hops. A very clever beer, which appeases the numerous Pils drinkers, and the more discerning punter. An impressive achievement for a mass-produced beer.

Mouthfeel: Equally at home before, or after, a session. Refreshing first thing on a morning, as well as having a lovely “wake-up” feeling for tired mouths that have seen much drinking during the day.

Drinkability: Exceptionally thirst quenching at first; clean, crisp and very refreshing afterwards. The fact that it is not pasteurized I think lends to its drinkability and helps to promote the flavors from the Pilsener Malts and Hops. I had 4 of these late at night after a heavy days drinking, when I thought I was done for the night, before I even realized. It had taste, and presence, even after 8 hours of drinking high gravity beers. Quite an accomplishment for a Euro-Lager.

Overall: Bofferding is the Grand Duchy’s second largest Brewer, and owns something like 1,200 outlets. As such; Bofferding Pils is widely available in many Bars. It fulfills its role as a Pilsener that appeals to the masses. Yet it does go that little step further. It is quite a pleasant tasty offering and a clean, well-balanced Pilsener lager that is above average. Much better than the #1 selling DieKirch Premium from Interbrew.

I have to admit, that this is not bad for a mass-produced Pils.

30cl on draft, served in a Bofferding glass.

Served with a clear light golden yellow body, half finger white head with good retention, tons of it. Nice lacing. Smells of clean biscuit, bread, a touch of grain, honey, bit of earth. Flavour is freshly baked bread, grain, biscuit, a bit of earth and floral notes. Mouthfeel is medium-thinner in body, crisp and refreshing, a bit dry, but very nice clean graininess. Overall, a solidly tasty lager on draft. It's a solid German pilsner, no off flavours, a refreshing beverage overall.

Golden color with a thick three fingers head with great retention and lots of laces.
Aroma with lots of grassy hops and bread malt.
Refreshing flavor with nice grassy and spice hops, grainy malts. Dry and bitter aftertaste.
Light towards medium body with proper carbonation.
Very decent Pils. Clean, crisp and lots of grassy hops. Not complex, but definitely does the trick.
