A lush, rich farmhouse pale ale fermented entirely with Brettanomyces and bursting with over-ripe tropical flavor, citrus and an unmistakable funk.

this is 100% brett fermented beer, and its different. these days, it seems like everyone is using the same cultures the same way, and the "wild" and indigenous elements of these beers are diminishing as they are breed toward an ever more rigidly defined standard, which to me is a turn off. this one is weird with its brett, not all the way amazing, but its uniqueness of yeast profile makes it a winner for me, decidedly unconventional in that regard, and even though i dont necessarily love the slightly harsh and spicy byproducts of fermentation here, i like it because its weird. shared generously with us by or table neighbors at monks cafe in philly, we sampled this one eagerly. pale and hazy, bubbly and funky, this has notes of past ripe fruit, peaches maybe, white wine, and a phenolic belgian property as well, not as dry as it could be, thicker feeling in body, oddly malty for what it is, and honestly a little bit less refined than i was hoping it would be, but again, its use of brett in this way, maybe a different strain or process, makes it different enough to be cool. i didnt love it, but am not very interested in trying the rest of their portfolio, looks like they do some pretty cool stuff!

Thanks to JLindros for sharing.
A - Poured into a Kate the Great tulip a nice lightly hazy golden hue with a thin two finger head that leaves a dense creamy blanket.
S - Aromas of nice barnyard funk, green apples, cheesy funk, herbal, peppery.
T - Taste is similar to the nose, harsh phenols, oxidation, plastic, light apples, sewage funk. Ugh.
M - Mouthfeel is brightly carbonated, aggressive, very odd finish.
O - Overall this was a very, very horrible beer.

Pours a big fluffy creamy 2 finger head fades at a med pace, decent foamy lacing, slight hazy orange yellow color.
Nose starts with saison funk, little farmhouse funk, plenty of green apple and pear, bright fruity ester aroma, little citrus note, earthy cheesy funk, little berry, fun and interesting.
Taste is sad, oxidation cardboard out front, quickly into phenol chemical thing, weird fruity thing ester apple pear, bitter spicy hop rind adds its presence just to make it worse, big yeasty thing too, burp of yeast and cardboard, chemical fruit like a cleaner.
Mouth sticky med bod syrupy, some hot chemical thing and tons of carb.
Overall wtf... Started nicely in the nose but flavor was horrible, so many bad flavors combining.
