Bottle from Utobeer. Colour is very good. Very dark brown to black opaque with a medium chocolatey looking tan head. Aroma is lots of dark chocolate, dark ripe fruit and dried dates, Marmite yeastiness, molassses. Getting a lot off the nose. Taste is syrupy dark chocolate, Marmite yeastiness, strong roasted malt that lingers on the finish. There’s a touch of black coffee in there, but it’s very smooth. I like this alot. Packed full of flavour yet smooth and chocolatey.

A: Black with a light brown head that quickly recedes.

S: A pleasant balance of bittersweet chocolate and coffee with prominent roasted grains and a whisper of smoke. Earthy, nutty, and rich, with licorice and restrained coconut notes. Fantastic.

T: Earthy with bittersweet dark chocolate and a firm but soft roasted malt profile. There's a little licorice and an even lighter molasses presence. Coffee is evident throughout with a restrained nutty quality. There's a decided coconut note existing throughout the flavor profile. It's exceptional. The finish is rich and bittersweet with notable warming but a dearth of alcohol flavor. Cocoa, cream, coconut, coffee, and roasted malt linger on the palate.

M: Full body with upper medium carbonation. The mouthfeel is smooth, silky, chewy, and sticky.

Overall: I haven't had a straight up Imperial Stout that I've enjoyed this much for a long time. This came out of nowhere and blew me away. Stellar.

Bought a bottle of this from Tanakaya in Mejiro, Tokyo. Poured into a Baird pint glass. A perfect black-brown in a way that a guy who tried to buy a bookshelf from me once requested and I didn't understand... but now I do. A nice cocoa-toned head on it that lasted about half its life. The thing that won me over (and judges at numerous world competitions) was the flavor of this imperial stout... such a magnificent bitter chocolate flavor mixed with sweet coconut and cream with another level of bitterness from roots and hops. I absolutely loved this beer! It is a constant toss-up for me between Baird and Minoh about who is the best large-scale craft brewer in Japan, and this Minoh is definitely one of the better ones i've ever had. Get a bottle if you can (or on tap as it is occasionally).

Had this on tap at ThrashZone in Yokohama, Japan - http://www.beerdrinkinginternational.com/
This review written on a post tasting basis but will be revisited/edited when the chance comes by

A - Tapped to the brim of the pint glass, which was what they call, the signature ThrashZone pour with just a paper thin layer of a head. Usually the head would contribute to the appearance rating but I shall give credit for this signature pour (4)

S - Roasted malts and some notes of coffee (4)

T - Well balanced tastes of roasted malts, coffee and flavors of chocolate; flavorful on the finish (4)

M - Light bodied and in fact way too light for the style albeit going down really easy (3.5)

D - Flavorful imperial stout and it is very drinkable but for an Imperial Stout a thicker body and creamier texture would very much be preferred (4)

I was taking 3 gulps of this from Tim's glass; nice flavors and all for an Imperial Stout but what stuck me the most was the lightness of the body which very unfortunately detracted this from being a really good beer.

On tap at the Minoh-owned Beer Belly bar. Pitch black with a rocky, coffee coloured head. Slightly subtle aromas of roasted coffe and milk chocolate. very assertive bitterness and a good long finish. A little lighter in body than I'd hoped for. Pretty good and worth trying, just a little light on for the style.

Mondiale 2009. Very lacey black stout, a result of the mixing milkshake foam. very chocolately and secondary coffee. Some coffee and roast, a candy bar in a bottle. Very rich and high quality RIS. One of the best beers of the fest. Average mouthfeel. Carbonation suitable.
