Another stop on my "return to SoCal" trip. Why anyone travelling by car between S.D. and L.A. wouldn't stop here or Solana Beach is beyond me.
Atmosphere is old school pizza parlor. Order at the counter (or the bar) and wait for the announcment, "Pizza for ___." Family friendly. Carlsbad I think is the biggest of the Pizza Ports.
Jeff Bagby at this location makes some seriously good beers. I had "The Empire Strikes Black" a big stout brewed by port brewers @ Sierra Nevada's facility and a Poor Man's DIPA. My travelling companions had, so I got to try, the hefeweizen, the weizen bock and an Amber. The amber kind of missed the mark but the others were very good.
Food is pizza and salads and some apetizers. The pizza is good but not great. Thick doughy crust and the sauce is kind of straight tomato and needing some more spice for my taste.
There's also a bottle shop next door that sells Port brewing beers.
Very worth a trip if you're at all near here.

Final stop of our trip for the day, if you don't count the bottle shop next door, is to Pizza Port for some dinner. Atmosphere was great. Tons of people inside, as well as out on the patio area, enjoying themselves helping to create quite a buzz. Quality was solid across the board. Food and beers were top notch and the space was well maintained. Service was pretty good. I didn't have to wait very long for my beers and the food is self serve so that was on us. Selection was awesome, they had a ton of amazing beers on that I had quite a bit of fun trying. We decided to get our pizza to go since it had been a long day. We got the margarita and it was great but I am not the biggest fan of thicker crust but that is on me not them. Prices were reasonable so no big deal there. Overall this was my favorite of the two Pizza Port locations we visited thanks to their above average selection. I will definitely return next time I am in the area.

My family and I spent around $45 for drinks, appetizers and a large pizza. The prices are reasonable for what you get. The food was great, hot, and tasty. My only complaint was the bar line. It took me 10 minutes to get a pint of their red ale, which was outstanding. My kids were tired and unable to wait for daddy(me) to have another beer. The line for beer was long about 12-15 persons standing in line. They had two bartenders working and line seemed slow or I was anxious to get some great beer. I think it was people were undecided about the excellent selection available. My wife would like to visit again. We were there for around 5:30 p.m. Great overall impression, excellent beer, and great food. Will visit again when in the area.
