From notes on 12/28/2011

4/5 Pours out a nice amber-orange with a nice white, finger head with decent retention.

4/5 Smell is full of citrus with a little pine to balance things out. Certainly more citrus in the nose. There's a nice sweet malt bill to balance things out.

3.5/5 Taste is just like the nose with a little more malt and a little less citrus althought this still has great citrus.

3.5/5 Mouthfeel is medium which is great for the style. Nice beer. A tiny bit of a letdown but still a great beer.

A- Poured straight down into the glass and a huge, pillowy, three finger head was the result. Murky, caramel-like golden color. Tons of lacing on the glass as the head dissipates.

S-After the initial pour I was getting a substantial amount of pineapple with some tangerine. As the beer settles, however, a grassy/piney aroma comes to the fore. Pine almost stings the nostrils. Grapefruit adds to the mix. The pineapple fades a bit, but is still noticeable. It's not all hops though, as there is surely a presence from the malt, which adds sweet and earthy characteristic to the nose.

T- It's all pine and grass up front, followed by sweet fruit, then grapefruit, then bitterness washing it all down. There is a nice sweetness that lingers on the finish as well. Not as dry as I thought the first time I drank this. While the bitterness certainly coats the mouth, there is a mouthwatering sweetness too. Lovely. Also, no presence from the alcohol. At all.

M- Drinks remarkably smooth with hop oils that coat the mouth. Medium mouthfeel with a firm amount of some prickly carbonation. Easy drinking. Much too easy.

O- Overall, this is a really well done DIPA. I've begun to shy away from the DIPAs that feel the need to push 10%. This beer does well at 8.8% and seems to be an anomaly. A firmly East Coast IPA with some West Coast flavor. Like Biggie let Tupac spit a few lines on a track. Great beer.

12 oz. can poured into tulip glass; acquired a four-pack via trade -- Thanks, Dan!

A: Pours a hazy orange/copper, with a thin head that immediately leaves a film on the glass.

S: Floral hops and grapefruit aromas overtake the space around the glass; if you didn't know any better, you might think this was a West Coast DIPA on smell alone.

T: Sweet citrus hop character, with an additional floral tone that makes it a bit lighter in contrast. Malt backbone is there, though not overwhelmingly so -- especially compared to other East Coast DIPAs.

M: Smooth, warm, with some mild carbonation.

O: A truly delicious brew that toes the line between East Coast and West Coast DIPAs, and remains incredibly drinkable and interesting from start to finish. If you can find it, it's absolutely worth the purchase. And if you can find a way to trade for it, I'd highly recommend it.
