A nice porter but not an Alaskan Smoked Porter. Lower ABV than Alaskan’s.
A - opaque, good carbonation with a roiling nitro like pour. Two-finger light tan head.
S - Sort of a lagered malty aroma. A low to moderate amount of smoke on the nose.
T - Loght roast, no sweetness, light smoke, low bitterness stemming from the roasted malts.
MF - medium body with a just dry finish some coating lid the palate.

Appearance - Pours a deep mahogany brown with two fingers of cream coloured head.
Smell - smoked malts, coffee bean, cocoa, hint of dark fruits (plum, cherry), earthy and leafy hops, and earthy yeast.
Taste - smoked malts upfront followed by the coffee bean and cocoa. The hint of dark fruits (plum, cherry) follow suit. The earthy, leafy hops and earthy yeast finish off the brew.
Mouthfeel - Medium bodied with light to moderate carbonation. Finishes smooth with the smoke, coffee bean, and cocoa lingering.
overall - A well constructed and enjoyable porter that delivers on flavour. All elements of the brew were well done.

The colour of cola with plenty of carbonation and a nice little head that settles in to little more than a penninsula.
Nose has a nice level of char and dark grains. Light smoke and some umami character.
Light smoke and dry char. Hints of bakers chocolate give it some depth. Almost a lactose type hint on the very back end.
Nice body that's mostly on the dry side but has some chewy rich element to it as well.
This is not super complicated but I really dig it. Dry char/ashy smoke and a touch of rich chocolate.

On tap at Blackbird, Vancouver.
Fast-fading tan over cola brown. 3.75
Jerky smoke and cola bottles. 3.75
Caramel, smoked almonds, a touch of coffee hard candy, a bit of wood, and creme brulee comeback. 4
Lt-med, smooth, crisp. 4
Tame nose, but works itself out with a balance of smoke and sweetness. Too thin and too sweet to be sessionable - needs some hops or fizz to cut it. But YD do craftsmanship well enough. 3.75

16oz glass at Beer Revolution YEG - the march of new BC craft breweries into Alberta continues.
This beer appears a clear, dark ruby red highlighted brown colour, with one finger of puffy, weakly foamy, and bubbly beige head, which leaves some spiky mountain range vista lace around the glass as things quickly sink away.
It smells of bready and slightly meaty caramel malt, wet ash, muddled black orchard fruit, cafe-au-lait, a hint of Scandinavian anise candies, and tame leafy and floral hop bitters. The taste is lightly smoked caramel/toffee malt, bittersweet cocoa powder, waning coffee notes, a hint of sour milk, watery black licorice, and more plain leafy, citrusy, and floral hoppiness.
The carbonation is quite gentle in its pleasingly frothy emanations, the body a decent medium weight, and generally smooth, just a wee bit of ash sticking to the roof of one's mouth, if that kind of thing bothers you. It finishes still trending sweet, as that meaty smokiness wafts off, leaving a solid Old School porter holding the bag.
Overall, a well-made and enjoyable version of the augmented style, the 'guest' smoke keeping its acridity on the down low, allowing the base porter to still shine. It finally fucking rained a few drops today, so I'll add that to my justification for liking this one so much.

Can.
Deep cola black with minimal head that dissipates fairly quickly. Smoky, licorice and toasted grain on the nose. Roasted malt, and brown sugar flavours. A little thin, but very nice.
