Appearance - Fine off-white/ brown head one-finger of stable long lasting head. Opaque crimson body.

Smell - Dark caramel with citrusy juicey hop aroma

Taste - Dry hoppy bitterness, rich caramel biscuit, long lasting complex flavor.

Mouthfeel - Smooth and fine.

Had a pint of this at the Baird Beer Harajuku Taproom. A beautiful amber ale that is 90% translucent with a wonderful lacing that coats the glass in a white stocking. Beautiful aroma of flowers, hops, wheat, and a bit of corn. Finishes smooth with no additional gas and no afterburn in the throat. A wonderful amber ale for any lunch or dinner and a choice session beer for those who like their brews a bit stronger than usual.

A great find here in Greensboro,I have wanted to try some Baird wares and this was just incredible.Poured into a standard pint glass a murky amber/bronze with a thick very clingy slight off white head,I mean it never totally fades!A great mix of piney/citric/grassy hop, caramel,and molasses,personally I think the hops prevail.The flavors of this amber to me are at near standard bearer for a new generation of amber,its got a huge dose of citric/piney hop but there is a real buttery caramel base that holds up great to the hop onslaught.The lower fermentation temp makes the beer so easy to drink and keeps the complexity super high.This was a treat do drink,people seek it out.

The hop complexity of this amber is why I love it,it has almost every trait of a hop,citrus,pine,tea,leaf,and spice.Its a great brew.

This was a very good beer. I didn't expect too much out of a Japanese brewery; not because I don't like Japan, just because I feel like Japan puts more effort into Sake, Shochu and Whiskey and because I have had some Kirin and Sapporo beers and thought them satisfactory. You can't compare Red Rose Amber Ale with those beers, like you can't compare bud and sierra nevada. One's mass produced, one's quality produced. It's not the best beer I've ever had, but well above average and definitely worth trying again. Very drinkable.

I am a huge fan of Bell's Amber Ale, and I consider that the standard by which I judge amber ales. The Red Rose by Baird Beers is supposed to "combine a crisp lager refreshingness with a robust ale fruitiness," sue to its lower lager-like fermentation temperatures. So I am expecting a Killians-esque type of lager-amber hybrid.

Red Rose pours a hazy lighter-than-amber color with a strong head made of large crisp bubbles. A steady stream of carbonation rises from the bottom, and little hint of lacing, which indicates a crisper texture.

I really like the smell of Red Rose. I am a fan of the sweetness of ambers in the first place, but the sweetness of Red Rose reminds me more of a cider...not THAT sweet, but that fruity of a nose.

The sweetness isn't NEARLY what I expected from the nose. It's not a rich beer, but I can definitely get a hint of the fruitiness of the sweet malts.

The mouthfeel of Red Rose is very crisp. The amber sweetness really contrasts with the crispness of the texture. But then it doesn't...the fall feel of Red Rose is extraordinary.

Overall, this is a beer that can keep you company the whole night. I would much prefer Baird's Red Rose in the fall, but I can see some late spring and summer sippage being noteworthy. I've only got one of these, but I want more...

Update: This thing is a product of Japan! An American style amber from the west coast really tips the scale of variety. Japan is noted for its hop-heavy mega-brewery style lagers, and I am drinking a great amber ale? Definitely worth the $5 price tag knowing that it's an import of this quality.

Generous, tight-bubbled head that remains rocky throughout the tasting. Lots of chunky lace on the glass. The color red-orange amber with a solid haze.

Sweet, hoppy and attractive. Floral aroma of fresh hop cones. Enough malt to make it very balanced. Close to perfection.

Beautiful bitter. The malt is present but in the background. The hop, if I am hyper-critical, is leaning toward the harsh side. Extraordinarily drinkable. If I were to have a complaint, it would be that the liquor is on the thin side for such a flavorful beer. Still, this is an exceptional beer well worth seeking out.

Murky amber in body with frothy off white head. Aroma similar to a barleywine: caramel, syrup, molasses. Crisp bready flavors, toast with butter. Then the flavor gets cut short by diacetyl and finishes with slight butter. Medium in body and very enjoyable for any time of day.

This one pours a golden amber with a rapidly receeding head becoming a foamy thin line with scant lacing. Smells sweet, hoppy and floral with hints of pine. Ititial flavor is hops followed by moderate malt and faint citrus notes. Nice light body with crispy carbonation. This could almost be called a B.I.P.A. (Baby IPA) Excellent.

Clear red copper with a thick, firm white head.

Lovely perfumed floral rose nose with Belgian sugar and very light sugared creamed coffee.

Mouthfeel is thin but good and the flavor profile makes up for the crisp mouthfeel.

Flavors of bright espresso and a finish of bitter coffee and grapefruit hops.

Actually quite drinkable; goes down well and has concise flavors with a very nice balance. This could be a "regular" for many.

Bottle from Jungle Jim's.

Poured a clear copper color with a large frothy off-white head that mostly lasted with excellent lacing.

Moderate sour citrus and malt aroma.

Medium body with soft carbonation.

Medium to heavy bittersweet flavor with a medium to heavy bittersweet finish of moderate duration.

This is a standout beer for style.

Appearance: Pours a hazy, reddish-amber body with a frothy, sudsy, off-white head. Fair amount of lace on the way down.

Smell: Oven-toasted biscuits with a very distant kick of dark caramel and fruit boosted by hoppy scents of spice, citrus, coarsely chopped herbs, and wood.

Taste: Toasted, day-old biscuits with hints of dry caramel. Touch of Tomcot apricots. Hop profile displays full tastes of zesty, zippy spices and citrus. Also, maybe, just maybe, even a tad woody. Medium-high bitterness that's bold but not overbearing. The toasty qualities try to reemerge past the spice, citrus, and staunch bitterness, but it's to no avail. Finishes dry and bitter with a lingering toasty biscuitiness.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.

Drinkability: Delightfully quaffable -- one of those beers that it's hard to finish the review before I clear through the entire bottle. My first Baird beer and a rather good one! Here's hoping the other three I purchased are as pleasant.

True to its name, it's a lovely reddish dark amber color, with a robust and chunky head.

Smell is ... sweet/sour? Enticing.

Taste is a brief hit of sourness, followed by taste of fruit and a vivid impression of coarse brown sugar (really, it's amazing, but you can feel the coarseness), which slowly fades into a wonderfully subtle and distinct "round" hop bitterness, which lingers as the beer goes down. I wouldn't really call it herbal, but it's lovely, and ... er, well, "round." Every sip is an adventure as the taste continually changes while passing over your tongue!

The mouthfeel is thick, robust, and slightly oily, while still being refreshing; this sort of "simultaneously robust and light" feel is very "baird."

An interesting and tasty beer, much more interesting than any other amber ale I've had. It is definitely a sweet beer, but it's an _interesting_ sweetness, and well accompanied by the laid back but very clear hoppiness.

Nice.

12 ounce bottle. Served in a nonic pint glass, the beer pours a brown/amber color with about an inch and a half frothy off-white head. Head retention and lacing are both pretty good. The aroma is malty and fruity, it smells like caramel malt, strawberries, and a little bit of hops and ginger. The hops come out a lot more in the taste, it tastes like citrusy and grassy hops, caramel malt, and some spice (ginger and maybe something else I can't identify) and strawberries. Mouthfeel/body is medium, carbonation is average and it has a dry finish. Drinkability is good, it's easy to drink and very enjoyable. I believe this is the third brew I've tried from this brewery, and I haven't had a bad beer from them yet, they're all pretty decent from what I've had so far. If you get a chance to try this or any other brew from Baird, you should. Recommended.

The second of two Baird offerings I picked up in North Carolina. They made a good first impression, and hopefully this follows up nicely!

A: Quite hazy, like an unfiltered honey colour in some ways. The head forms beautifully into a pillowy cloud of gently rolling, creamy head.

S: Slightly fruity with a pleasant floral bouquet, along with a nice and modest malt profile. Both the aroma and the flavour are very similar, with a hint more hop coming out on the palate, most notably toward the finish.

M: It's medium bodied, but it has a mildness to it. Carbonation is moderate, and it finishes with just a hint of dryness.

D + notes: This makes a couple of Baird offerings now that I've been pleased with. They offer a nice flavour and yet a sensible and easy going beer with this one, and it's nothing short of solid. Good beer, and it has me very interested in trying more with high hopes!

Dark pumpkin with a reddish tint and bronze highlights. The golden sandstone colored cap has a wonderful look. It's rich and creamy and bubbly and sticky, leaving thick sheets of lace as it slowly deflates. What's not to like? Note: a ridiculous amount of lace in the end earns the beer a well-deserved score increase.

The aroma is more pale ale-like than amber-ale like because hops are much more prominent than malt. Whatever varieties were used (English ones probably) are musky in the manner of ripe apricot and peach skins. A hint of toasted maltiness is present as well.

With this offering, Baird decided to brew the opposite of a steam beer. Steam beer is a lager brewed at warmer (ale-like) temperatures. RRAA is an ale brewed at lower (lager-like) temperatures. I would think that fewer ale yeast esters would be the end result.

Red Rose Amber Ale is delicious, drinkable beer. Upon drinking, I'm still reminded of a well-malted (and even more well-hopped) English pale ale. That's a recipe for success if there ever was one. This bottle must be at least 6 months old and the hops are still kicking in a major way. The IBUs were probably high right out of the gate.

There goes my theory. There are a ton of fruity esters in this sucker. Apricots, peaches and apples combine with leafy hops that are herbal and a bit spicy. Gotta be East Kent Goldings at least, and maybe an American hop for that grapefruit zesty bite. Each sip is better than the last.

A generous amount of ingredients (in the right hands) almost always results in good beer. It also results in an outstanding body/mouthfeel. This one is plenty full for the style and the ABV, always a plus in my book. The carbonation is spot-on as well.

Every one of the BBC beers that I've had so far, with the possible exception of Rising Sun Pale Ale, has been as solid as granite. Red Rose Amber Ale is one of the better ambers in recent memory. Too bad these brews aren't more widely distributed.

A- This beer pours a hazy brown thick body with a beige head that sticks to the glass in a big of a meniscus. There is a bit of trub suspended in the body with a gentle carbonation gliding to the surface.

S- The clean brown malt aroma has some green dry hop notes in the finish.

T- The brown malt has a slight tartness that fades into a bittern soft green hop finish that has a bit of a green bit that lingers. There is a dry caramel and toffee note to the malt and a green woody hop character comes through as the beer opens up.

M- This beer has a medium-light mouthfeel and a smooth texture.

O- The nice dry malt has some good depth to it when it opens up and a nice balance with the mellow hops. This is a good session beer with a nice full flavor.

Thick cream, tight bubble head, light tan color. Long lasting sticky foam. Body is quite dark for an amber ale, heading towards an opaque orange brown. Very good looking presentation. The smell reminded...much of other Baird beers. Very potent fresh strawberry juice, sweet and..."intoxicating"?? Very light aroma hops in the background.

Initial taste in the mouth is fruity and watery, which smoothly fades into medium streamlined hops. A medium malt caramel profile.

Very low carbonation took me by surprise in this beer. Interesting complexity adds to make this beer highly drinkable.

Bought on a whim from Julio's. Glad I did. Nice beer from Japan. Poured into my Duvel tulip.

A - A pretty much clear dark amber/red colour with lots of bubbles. Atop this was a nice white slightly less than two finger head that quickly faded to a nice white thick cloud. In the end all that was left was a nice white halo and blanket.

S - Almost reminded me of a belgian at first. Nice and floral with some sweet malts. Good pine and citrus (orange/grapefruit) aromas here too.

T - Somewhat unique here. Nice typical amber ale qualities but there are some really great additions of the bready malts and floral, citrus hops. Nice hop notes.

M - Love the mouthfeel on this. Carbonation is really, really good. Holding the brew on the tongue has a nice bubbling sensation. Surprisingly high carbonation with this take.

D - This is nice. While not my favorite amber ale this is a really lovely take on one. Has alot going for it, really a surprise from a Japanese brewery.

On tap at the Nakemeguro Taproom in Tokyo. Not a bad place, and very close to the subway line if you're considering visiting.

Arrives with a red/copper body and a bubbly white head, that exhibited good retention and lacing. Very floral aroma, with strong notes of grapefruit, spice and caramel. There's a pleasant toastiness to it as well. I'm really digging the flavour, as it continues the floral theme, with a decent hop bite, and a good malt backbone. The initial impression is all floral, with lemongrass and perfume hitting the roof of the palate, after that biscuit and caramel malt take over before climaxing in a grapefruit splashed finish. Its extremely sessionable and well balanced. Medium body and carb seems well suited. All is well here and its another winner from Baird.

A: Poured from a bottle to a pint glass. Had a rust color and a cloudy consistency. There was a huge, creamy, long-lasting head and excellent lacing.

S: Had a very malty presence in the aroma, along with some hops and a slight floral quality.

T: Tasted of roasted malt, bitter hops going down and a slight, almost citrusy quality. A tasty combination.

M: A decent amount of carbonation and a smooth finish. Medium-bodied.

D: This is the third beer I've had from Baird and, I think, the best. It's easy to drink and well made.
