The pour is golden orange in color with a white head. A very citrusy aroma to the beer, and quite a strong tropical character too. Some sweet malt aromas, but really dominated by the fruit. The flavor is more of the same. Sweet tropical and citrus fruit character, a little bit of malt, sweet berries, and maybe just a hint of tartness to it. Really easy to drink.

2012 version. Had this on tap at Bulldog in Yurakucho, Tokyo. Poured into a tulip glass. Orange semi-cloudy hue with a thin white head that leaves a bit of lacing in the glass. Not much smell to this which is a disappointment, although there is a bit of the mikan orange there. Great but sour mikan flavor where I would have appreciated a more popular sweet Japanese mikan flavor. Overall, this is a decent beer, but I feel it was pulled together either at the wrong time or in an odd way to give it a lacking smell and a taste that could be much better.

Picked up a bottle of this at Wine Nation in Milbury. Worth noting, the bottle immediately fizzed up and over once the cap was popped.

A - Poured into my duvel tulip a copper hue with ALOT of chunky yeast particles floating in it. There was a massive 3 finger rocky white head that faded to leave thick side lacing.

S - Due to a bad bottle the smell is less than good. There are some nice sweet malts and a subtle fruit skin in the background. Overpowered by a metallic aroma though.

T - Like the smell, its a let down. Sweet malts upfront with some light mikan citrus behind it. There is a slight metal finish, and the flavors arent exactly powerful.

M - The carbonation is nice and crisp/refreshing, but, I get a strong alcohol note as well along with that metallic finish.

O - Overall, I was very excited to try this beer. Unfortunately something went bad between Baird and the liquor store. Still, I would give this another try.

Pours a hazy yellow hue almost reminisant of a Hefe with a two finger frothy bubbled filled head and sudsy lacing everywhere, the smell is pears, lemons, sherbet and candy, the mouthfeel is light bodied and has tastes of lemon sherbet, sour candy straps, citrus, cocconut and the finish is bready and lemony and overall its very refreshing and fruity but would taste better in summer than the winter im feeling at the moment and will probably revisit when its abit hotter.

Reviewed from notes on 9/2/10

A- Amber color with a pinkish hue in low light. Low to average carbonation. Thin lace.

S- Semi pear and citrus like fruit smell from the infused Asian Natsumikan Fruit.

T- Grassy flavor with noticeable rice.

M- Interesting dry mineral finish that reminded me of a crisp Sauvignon Blanc white wine. Inherent in rice brews.

D- Certainly easy to drink. Good if you are looking for a low carbonation alternative to American Summer ales. Good with oysters on the half shell or sushi.

Thanks to Josh for this...
Apears a hazy, light gold with a small white cap that slowly fades out. Spotty lacing is left around the glass.
Smell is of citrus, nutty malt, nutmeg, cardamom, & fruity yeast.
Taste is of the mentioned aromas with creamy vanilla, and lemon.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied, slick, yeasty, with a semi-dry finish.

A) Copper color. Visible Carbonation. Pours with a half inch head. Thick, creamy with similar lacing.
S) Floral hop aroma. Spicy citrus. Some grapefruit sweetness.
T) Some citrus bitterness. Slight graininess. A touch of caramel.
M) Creamy. Smooth. Light to medium body. Fizzy and bubbly on the tongue. Somewhat dry.
D) Very nice brew. The addition of the native Japanese fruit is nice.

Appearance: Sunny mikan orange, hazy with a fair beige-ish head. Retention is mediocre.

Smell: You can really smell the mikan! Very fruity but also nice and hoppy, balanced by a spicy-citric hop zest that blends beautifully with the fruit and lends notes of wisteria blossoms!

Taste: Really nice and balanced; hoppy but clean without a bitter, lingering edge. Quite nice, though the mikan is slightly lost among the citric fruitiness of the hops and the light sweetness of the malts.

Mouthfeel: Light and slightly spritzy; well-matched to the flavor.

Drinkability: Very good, an excellent summer beer with a twist that isn't gimmicky!
