The head is an off-white color and smooth, with many bubble sizes. An inch or so in height at first, it rapidly reduces to a thick skim that is replenished by active carbonation until the last two inches or so, when it peters out to just a ring. The brew is a dark red-brown (known as Bismarck Brown in commercial finishing products), and very clear.
Detecting much of an aroma is difficult, but a little roasted malt is perceived. Carried through in the flavor, it is pretty much straight ahead roasted malt, with some notes of caramel and molasses. Not much hop character, probably due to the use of hop extract, but enough to give it a little tang in the back palate. Well carbonated, it foams well in the mouth and goes down easily. A typical Euro dark beer, much like Heineken dark.
More depth of flavor than the regular Warsteiner, but nothing outstanding. Good session beer, especially with some sauerkraut and knockwurst.
