A. Poured a light yellow color with an average white one finger head that did not last. The lacing was almost non exsistent.

S. Had an average grain smell, with some apple, and caskwood.

T. Hoppy flavor, slighly bitter. had a little skunky aftertaste, the ceareal taste was most evident. The duration I thought was a little short.

M. Full bodied beer with a slightly thin texture. Carbonation was moderate.

D. I had this beer on a flight out of Germany. The Pilsner beer had plenty of German hops but no after taste. As far as Pilsner style beer I would consider this a classic.

From notes taken at the Brickskeller in Washington, D.C.

A: Pale, clear yellow with an appreciable amount of white head.

S: Mainly malt smell with a high hint of sweetness.

T: Barley malt with a slight citrusy zest and some yeast funk; rounded out with an artificial-tasting hop bitterness.

M: Active carbonation gives it a slight kick. Otherwise, somewhat typical lager-y.

D: Very typical German lager. Drinkable, but nothing special.

I've been on a German beer kick lately, so I picked up a six-pack the other night, and decided to go for it.

Appearance - straw colored German Pils. Very standard, nothing out of the ordinary.

Smell - The smell wasn't bad. Sort of like what Beck's would be if it weren't kept in green bottles.

Taste - Very good, clean flavor. I could detect some decent hints of the malts. A slightly hoppy finish, but not overpoweringly so.

Mouthfeel - A little harshly carbonated for my taste, but nothing too bad. It's not like Bud Light or anything, obviously.

Drinkability - This is where this beer wins. It was extremely easy to drink, and for a decent imported German beer for not so much out of the pocket, I could see myself buying some again. I feel like the water used to brew this beer one of its strong points, because (at least I) can detect quality there and it shows through in this category.

Overall, definitely worth trying. Go for it if you don't feel like paying as much as you would for Hofbräu but are looking for a decent German Pils to get the job done.

Poured a 500-ml can into a pilsner glass.

Appearance - another straw yellow German pils with a quickly-gone head and a little lacing.

Smell - fresh barley and a slight hoppy scent, there's a bit of bread in there as well. Not bad at all.

Taste - another nice clean German beer. Pretty subtle flavours, some malt in there but very mild.

Mouthfeel - it's smooth with decent carbonation.

Drinkability - nothing offensive, just not dramatically interesting. It ain't easy to tell some of these apart.

Appearance: This selection pours a medium straw color with a thick white head that is reserved in volume. Lacings are minimal, but surface spiderwebbing is present.

Smell: The aroma is thin yet of a traditional Euro Pale Ale/Pilsner character. There is a slight skunkiness that is as thin as the remainder of the aroma.

Taste: Certainly the Euro Pale Ale bounces forth in this selection. I have always enjoyed this brew. The malt appears during mid-flavor. Sustain ends sharply and leaves no aftertaste.

Mouthfeel: Light on the tongue and faintly sweet on the palate, this brew mixes well with spicy food...especially sausages.

Drinkability: As mentioned above, this brew sits well with German food and goes down amazingly well. This is a GREAT fest brew.

Prosit!

Warsteiner Premium Varum: I'll pick this one up for a change of pace from the regular ales I get.

Though not my personal style I do appreciate this beer's craftsmanship.

Appearance: Light Golden yellow, pours a good head right off the cuff and it settles down after a few minutes to a slick with the remaining lace sticking around until the drink is finished.

Smell: Clean, not skunky at all, just a sweet hops and barley malt smell. Not offensive in any way, shape or form.

Taste: Strong hops are present, drinking whilst smelling really add to the experience of this beer. The drink finishes a bit lighter than it starts, so overall full of flavor throughout.

Mouthfeel: Crisp, a tad dry with some bitterness kicking in after the swallow, but again very nice and almost set apart from other German Pilsners. It's just right for what it is.

Drink: Quite, try it. I'm an Ale-Hound and can easily enjoy a good Warsteiner any time as well! It's not a chugging beer, but rather one to appreciate its build.

This is my favorite German Pilsner style tried thus far because on every level it lets you know what it is you're drinking.

A 2.5 - light golden color, very small head, gone quick
S 2.0 - skunked aroma
T 2.0 - I dislike the taste of this brew. Slightly bitter and noticeably skunky.
MF 2.0 Watery, can't get past the taste....
D - 2.0 - It would be tough to drink this one again, I had a 12 pack left in my fridge from a party and it stayed there a long, long time, until I finally gave them away.

A full natural aroma with a strong hopsy aftertaste. I can taste the barley and the hops, a great sensory experience. Nice amber body, with the right amount of froth. Not too sweet nor too bitter. I would recommend to my friends. My favorite German beer to date.

Smells a bit malty/grainy and sort of grassy.

Tastes like a nice average pilsener, nothing special, some nice grassy and malty notes.

Appearance is a nearly straw yellow, golden sparkle. Head is huge at first and quickly dissipates leaving a fair amount of lacing. Smell is mostly non-existant. Taste is absolutely pure pilsener. This could quite possibly be the cleanest tasting beer I've ever had. Mouthfeel is close to water. Drinkability is rather high due to the light body and clean finish. All American domestic beer drinkers should be forced to try this.

look: 3 | smell: 3 | taste: 3 | feel: 3 | overall: 3

Appearance: This one pours a very clear, light yellow color. A little straw-like. Sitting atop is a very foamy white head that's about two fingers tall. It was very quick to vacate the scent and left minimal lacing on the glass. Not bad, but not exactly good either.

Smell: The nose keeps its average-ness going. It's got a sweet, malty smell to it that really is the focal point. Smells earthy and grassy with a touch of grain. Very light hops come through, obviously floral in nature. There's a very faint citrus aroma that emerges late. Smells like lemon mostly. All in all, pretty average.

Taste: If nothing else, this a very consistent beer. A decent earthy, grassy flavor kicks it off. It's a little grainy. Sweet malts follow and really have the strongest overall flavor. Hops are a little more prevalent here. They're floral and give it a spicy bite. It's not bitter, just spicy. Light citrus lemon comes through late and adds a little more sweetness on the tail. Finishes sweet and spicy.

Mouthfeel/Drinkability: It's light bodied and has an okay feel. Carbonation is light and it fails to give the crisp bite that it needs. That hurts it quite a bit. Drinkability is average. There's not a lot of flavor and nothing about it really draws you back for more. It goes down pretty easy, but it's not something I'd pick up frequently.

Premium Verum is a consistently average beer across the board. I can't say that it's overtly bad, but it's not quite good either. It's worth a try, but nothing more than that. Definitely not worth picking up an entire six pack in my opinion. Go for the single bottle if it presents itself.

A yellow color with a white head that quickly disburses. It smells of malt and faint grain. The taste is nothing special. I didn't think it was watery, but the flavor doesn't reach out and grab you either. It's refreshing, but nothing special. You could drink a few of these.

Pours a clear golden yellow. A good amount of white head that dies down to nice layer on top of the beer. Leaves a good amount of lacing on the glass as well.

Smell is very faint, but I pick up some grain and a little floral hops.

Taste of sweet malt followed by a flowery hoppy bitterness.

Mouthfeel is a little too weak for my liking. A good amount of carbonation though.

This is very drinkable.

This is not a great pilsner, but it is better than Becks or St Pauli Girl.

Bottle poured into a Pilsner glass. Pours a clear pale blonde color, head of about an inch with good lacing.

Definitely a floral type of smell. Taste is on the bitter side with a strong presence of malt and hops. Strong tasting at first but surprisingly good drinkability.

A - Nice action in the pour raising a half inch of bright white head. The body is clear with a slight tint of yellow, and... possibly green?

S - Strong malt aroma beckoning a taste.

T - Malt to start and middle of slight hops with a round finish of both.

M - Very interesting texture to start. Its abrasive texture is subtle enough to make me believe the brew is silky. The texture is like none other.

~ This is a good brew. One I will recommend to friends.

Warsteiner pours a very clear, golden yellow color. It is a very light yellow color which I would expect from a Pilsner. There is definitely a high level of carbonation as the bubbles dance throughout the glass. There is a good size head maybe 1 ½ inches which makes the brew look even more appetizing. The head is a bright white color and after it settles still leaves a nice white lacing around the glass.

The aroma has a grainy malt smell to it. To me this is not a very complicated aroma. I wouldn't expect something complex from a pilsner, but this is very straightforward. I catch the malt and a little of hops.

When I take a drink, the first thing I notice is the crispness of the beer. The carbonation almost has a bite to it. It has a light/medium body with a maltiness that resembles bread or wheat. I can also taste the quick hint of the hops in the finish. It is a very dry beer that finishes very clean with little aftertaste.

Well I guess I owe my friend Ryan for sparing me one since he always seems to have a case of this on hand...

Pours a light golden color with a thin white head that left a fair amount of lacing.

Very floral aroma of hops and a touch of citrus. Not much to it but very much like smelling flowers I suppose.

Taste is fairly bitter with the hops very evident. Earthy and grainy with a slight citrus twist in the finish.

A mostly light bodied beer. Not overpowering in any way so it is pretty drinkable but nothing particularly stands out. Overall a very average beer that I wouldn't feel the need to buy, but I could have been offered something much worse so I won't complain.

A classic. Pours a clear yellow with a medium white head. Smells of light, leafy and floral hops. Taste is pleasantly sweet: flower nectar-like sweetness with a grassy hop finish. Well carbonated body. Drinkable to the max as either a beer to start the evening or as a session beer to have during the game.

12 oz bottle into pilsener.

Pours a pale golden body with a slightly off-white head that's pretty large after a strong pour. Good amount of lacing and carbonation.

Smells of a straight floral bouquet with some spiciness. Some lemon and citrus is in there as well. Pretty bland.

Tastes of nutty, floral hops backed with the lemon/citrus from the aroma. A nice element of toasted biscuits as well, providing a little bit of complexity. Semisweet up front, but finishes very dry.

Mouthfeel is decent, it's pretty smooth and crisp. Carbonation is good, pretty light-bodied. A great upside to this beer is it's drinkability - knocking back a few of these would not be a problem. The dry/bitter finish might wear you out after a couple but it's an enjoyable straight up Pilsener, despite it being somewhat "boring." Good session brew, however.

look: 3 | smell: 3.5 | taste: 3.5 | feel: 3 | overall: 4

Appearance:
Head formation is very quick, but it doesn't retain incredibly well (< 1 finger); it's more "bubbly" than "thick." There is a TON of rising carbonation, though. The beer itself is translucent and has very little color - a diluted, pale yellow is all I can call it.

Smell:
The aroma is mainly floral with spice and a hint of hops. It's not pungent, but it's quite sharp. There's not too much to say - it seems kinda simple to me.

Taste:
I'd say that the flavor matches the nose fairly well. It's definately more on the bitter side, but it doesn't lack too much malt. Spiciness helps make the transition from the quick bite to the malty aftertaste (which seems a little on the dry side).

Mouthfeel:
This is a very light beer, but it's not crisp due to the bitterness. I'd say that the bitterness also masks the carbonation's "feel" on the tongue.

Drinkability:
I think it's a little bitter to consume quickly. It's light enough to go down smoothly, but it's too bitter to slam.

Summary:
I've never had the regular Warsteiner, but I should definately give it a shot. This brew is pretty clean, but definately bitter - a bit too bitter for what I was expecting. However, it's definately not bad; I wouldn't turn it down if offered to me, but I wouldn't go out of my way to get it either. Definately try it to experience something that's (perceived to be, at least) "hardcore German."

500mL can with best before stamped on bottom poured into pokal.

Pours a crystal-clear, and I mean utterly clear, yellow, with a small white head that quickly dissipates to a thin haze. No lacing.

Aroma is mild hops, earthy and floral, with some sweetness in the background.

Taste is a grainy, slightly gritty hop earthiness mellowing to a bready malt middle, before heading off to a honey sweet finish.

Mouthfeel is remarkably light, airy even, with a good zing from the carbonation. Incredibly clean and srisp.

Drinkability is modest, if only because this beer is surprisingly mild. Nothing sticks out, nothing offends, nothing lingers. Fair, but not even really all that good, let alone excelling.

A: Clear yellow with a white head.

S: Floral, spice & a little sweetness.

T: Very floral, slightly spicy with a light breadyness. There's also some sulfury mineral, presumably from the yeast.

M: Light to moderate body is very smooth, almost creamy.

D: A decent drinker.

Pours a super clear light yellow color with a large bubbled bone-white head. Retention is slightly above average, some lacing.

Nose is mostly sweet maltiness and faint grassy hops. A bit of sulfur and biscuit in there as well. Almost smells a bit light-struck, at least it was in a brown bottle.

Taste is more of the same. A bit metallic with a faint finish of hoppy dryness and toastiness. A bit boring and very much what I expected this beer to taste like. Drinkable? Yes. Flavorful? Somewhat. Memorable? No. It's a slightly below average German lager for me.
