Cloudy golden colour with no head. Very poor for a hefeweizen.

Very weak malt aroma. Dull and lacking the banana and clove of the prototypical hefeweizen.

Very mild malt flavour with no esters. There's a touch of apricot and no phenols. What the hell is this?

Medium light body with moderate carbonation. Okay.

This is a bland and uninspired wheat beer. Very boring and dull.

Served in straight pint glass on the breweries deck, overlooking the river. The first warning sign was the lemon slice on the rim of the glass. The beer poured a typical cloudy yellow with a half-inch of white head that only had OK retention and lace.

The aroma had a nice crispy wheat scent, but the expected Hefe features of banana and clove were very subdued. The flavors were pretty much the same, a mellow example of the style.

The body was almost typical, just a bit lighter than most examples of this style. Drinkability was pretty good on it's own, but combined with the almost bland flavors, why would you bother? Overall, a nice enough brew that's worth a shot if you're in Bend.

Really a first-rate hefe. Best one in town, by far.

Served in a pintglass with a lemon slice on the rim. Cloudy golden yellow with a shiny white head, almost billowy.

Wheaty lemon in the aroma (no surprise) and a grassy sweetness.

Great balance of malt, hops, and wheat. The bitterness is perfectly measured, and only a slight sourness from the side of the rim that had the lemon. I gave the lemon a squeeze when i was down to the last third of the glass and it only added complexity, didn't overpower the good strong hefe flavors.

Great drinkability, perfect for a summer day.

One of the better hefeweizens I’ve encountered in recent months. High Desert is the color of clouded Tang and smells of lemon (included), dishwashing detergent (an egregious enviro-contaminant) and tart wheaty malts (50%). The flavor is derived from the bracing tartness of wheat malts with a complimentary tinge of barley malt sweetness. I like what the sweetness does to the mix. The sweet and tart converge to create an almost orange-like citrus flavor that works very well. The lemon wedge, while enjoyable, is hardly necessary.

High Desert offers little by way of lace and the head is just a thin film. But the flavor possesses a splash of spiced exotica that adds complexity to this clouded wheat beer. One of Bend Brewing’s best in my opinion.
