It seems that this place IS definitely a wine center of sorts, being as though there staff knew almost nothing about the beer that they sold. As most of the other reviews suggest, the only real help I recieved was when I was ready to check out.

There were some decent finds here, but nothing that I couldn't find elsewhere for the same price. I ended up walking out with a couple bottles of 2009 Stone IRS and some Mikkeller Draft Bear, but nothing else really caught my eye...they still have a couple of six packs of HopSlam, but they were still selling those for around $18.

Probably not a store that I will try again, especially since Crown 19 is less than a couple blocks away.

I dropped by today on a whim. It's mainly a wine store but has a pretty solid beer selection in the back right part of the store. I was lucky enough to pluck two of their last three bottles of Oatgoop (retired). They did have a few older bottles, which worked for me at least. A few of the styles however may be past their prime. The gem I found was good enough for me. They have a decent amount cold but nothing overly special. The service was really non-existant. The lady at the counter even admitted that she didn't even drink beer at all so didn't know anything about their beer section. That was a little disappointing. They had a nice selection but it was expensive, both Oatgoops ran 18.99 a pop. It's worth it if you're looking for some older bottles.

I did notice they had an O'Fallon Filtered Wheat from 2006, which they should've taken off the shelves by now, and refrigerated.

A smaller store, dwarfed by its imposing sister store just a mile or so away.

Great friendly staff are down to earth and willing to help, though with limited knowledge and taste experience.

Beer selection boasts plenty of locals and imports, thought some are past their prime or hard to find behind a maze of yet-to-unload boxes sitting in the aisles.

A handful of hard to find beers at very reasonable prices, but then again, a mix of some overpriced stuff you don't need. Go here with some selective preparation and expect the random jewel among a hundred things you might find elsewhere. Worth a stop if you're in the area, but not my #1 go-to based on stock and reliability of service/knowledge.

Went here only after I realized the Kahn's location in Carmel closed ( Wine and vine something something now) Walked in and was definetly impressed by the selection, but was very dissapointed in the staff's knowledge. Cold beer selection was great, but a lot of past dates on stuff. Picked up a 6 of Stones levitation only to discover its best on date was last fall. This doesnt happen at Kahns (both the quality of the brew and knowledge of the staff). Service was super akward, but prices were decent. Still a lot better than most places...but use the gas and get to Kahn's

Stopped in to grab some special brews. I picked up a sixer of Hopslam and a Mikkeller Black Hole. The sixer was 18.99 ( a bit much) and the Mikellers was 13. I liked the place but its a little expensive!

I didnt get any help from the staff other than "ready to check out". Also I would have liked it more if they sold single or could have split a pack.

Overall, it was a nice stop and had a decent selection BUT it would have been better if prices were lower AND could have mixed and matched!

I stopped by THIS Payless Liquors today after going to the wrong one that is across (east side of) and down (south of) Rangeline Rd. (I did not pay attention the address the first time.) I did not ask if the two stores are connected. Anyway...

The store is quite large by Indianapolis standards. (No liquor barns in this state.) The first thing you will find is the huge selection of wine in open boxes. The beer (which is in the back corner) selection is pretty good and the prices are average. I did not receive any service short of checking out while there. The major plus (to me) of this place over Kahn's is that the beer is available warm as well as cold for those lunch time trips like today. I picked up a six of Flying Dog - Doggie Style Classic Pale Ale $7.99 and a six of Three Floyds - Robert the Bruce $7.99.

I was quite impressed when I went into this store... there are quite a few liquor stores in the Indianapolis area that go by the name Payless, but most are pretty unimpressive. On the sign of this store, however, they mentioned fine wines, so I thought it might be worth looking at their beer selection. I was right. Their selection of beers is, based on my experience, second only to Kahn's in the Indianapolis area. They carry much of what Kahn's carries, as well as a few that Kahn's doesn't. The prices are competetive, and although the staff doesn't seem to know much about the beer they carry, this is definitely a good place to go for beer.
