A Chocolate Coffee Oatmeal Stout. The brewers used every cereal grain in the brewery plus while mashing in added Corn Flakes, Rice Krispies, Cocoa Puffs and Cinnamon Toast Crunch. “Dry Hopped” with Stumptown Coffee and Cocoa Nibs from Theo’s Chocolate.

On tap at Big Time Brewery in U-district. Poured into a Tulip instead of the usual pint glass, so it appears to be something special.

Aroma was a strong hit of coffee and dark chocolate.

Appearance was almost completely black with a great tan head. The head leaves quickly and there isn’t much lacing. Still a pretty looking brew.

Taste was rich and full. A bit grainy like other oatmeal stouts. Bittersweet. It conceals the ABV pretty well (I think it’s supposed to be around 8.5%).

Palate was decently carbonated and leaves a tickling sensation on the tongue.

Overall, I’ll say this is the best I’ve had at Big Time. It’s a really impressive beer and I’ll be sad when it’s gone. As far as stouts go, I’ve had a few better, and I’ve had plenty that weren’t as good. If you find yourself in the area, it’s something to seek out. I gave it an extra point overall for the pun too (Ted Bundy, UW, Serial Killer, Breakfast Cereal).

A: Pours black with a solid/dense foamy, off-white head on top, nice retention, slowly reducing to a thin cap on top. Sheets of lacing coat the sides.

S: Nice roasted malt up front, rather thick on the aroma, with some chocolate underneath.

T: Similar to the aroma, nice roasted malt, some chocolate, faint coffee, light dark fruit, and a bit of caramel.

M: Medium to full bodied with medium carbonation.

O: A nice beer, lots of flavors going on, would certainly order it again.

On tap at the brewpub. Served in a pint glass.

Appearance: utterly black with a thick finger of creamy chocolate foam. Great.

Smell: rich coffee aroma with a few notes of chocolate. Aroma is good but surprisingly dry.

Taste: strong coffee component with some chocolate and some fruit. Good but it lacks balance a little bit.

Mouthfeel: rich and creamy. Big body and carbonation - I love it.

Overall: very decent oatmeal stout. Could be better balanced but still quite nice.

On tap at the Brewery on a Wednesday afternoon. I took the bus to the university district and found myself across the street from Big Time. So, I stopped in and had to try this when I saw it on the menu.

According to the bartender, this is 8.5%.

Black with some nice head, but the foam quickly subsides leaving decent lace. A bit better head retention would really help.

The smell is immaculate. This is seriously giving Founders Breakfast Stout a run for the money. There's an awesome roast, gving coffee and chocolate impressions. Just a hint of caramel almost serves as a sweet compliment to the coffee, reminding me of cafe au lait.

Wow! This is seriously good stuff. Easily the best stout I had on the West Coast, including excellent representations of the style from HUB and Laurelwood. This just has a perfect balance of coffee, cream, sugar, chocolate and caramel. The bitterness starts to fade just as the sweetness in the finish emerges. Spectacular.

The mouthfeel was creamy, but not as milk-shake-esque as I prefer. Milkshakes for breakfast? Yes, please! The carb and viscosity were well above average but nothing near the top of the brackets. Overall, this beer killed it. Serially.

Had on tap at the brewhouse. Pours jet black, no light gets through the body. Head is brown, like dark brown. This stuff looks like Abyss territory. Smell is sweet, chocolate, some stale coffee, dark malty goodness. Taste- wow, sweet chocolate, coffee, mocha, anise, slight licorice, slight booze warmth. Mouthfeel is spot on, velvety, not too thick, carbonation is medium; drinkability isnt too bight due to the sweetness and alcohol warmth, but I was able to suffer through two pints :). This is a beer I would seek out in bottle form to send out as an extra, to impress foreigners. The brew kind of reminds me of a Three Floyds Hells Black Intelligencer.
