First beer from this brewery. Let's see how it goes...
Pours not quite black, a little lighter than most black ales I've experienced. Thin light tan head forms slowly. Lots of different size bubbles.
Aroma is mostly toffee/caramel malt, licorice. Not much on the hop side.
Same caramel/toffee sweetness in the taste, backed by just a bit of smokiness/char and earthy hop bitterness on the finish. No perceived alcohol. More akin to a well-hopped brown than a typical ABA.
Thin side of medium mouth feel, low-medium carbonation. Very very easy to drink.
Somewhere between an American brown and American black ale, this is nothing earth-shattering, it's well-made and quite enjoyable to drink. I'll definitely check out more from this brewery.

Poured into a nonic pint glass, the appearance was a dark brown close to black color with a two finger white foamy head that fell off at a moderate pace. Nice foamy lace. The aroma had a good dose of roasted malt, light anise, citrusy hops and subtle notes of pine. The flavor leaned into the roast fairly nice and then let the citrusy and piney hops give off a decent bitter bite right before the aftertaste running into the finish. The feel was about medium bodied with a good sipping quality about it. Carbonation felt good. ABV felt good. Overall, nice black IPA well worthy of having again.

From the 650 ml. bottle. Sampled on March 18, 2016.

The pour is mostly dark brown with a little ruby red up to the light and also rather opaque. Modest tan head.

The aroma brings out toffee, burnt dark malts, a touch of coffee, and a sort of floral hop note under it all. More malty than hoppy.

The body is medium and smooth.

There is a slight sweet malt flavor to start and then there is a rising almost earth-like bitterness at the finish. The finish is moderate and dry. Has a lot of Porter character to it.

Bottle from Bert's
Dark brown with faint garnet at the edges with a smallish off white head that dissipates quickly. Roasted coffee with hints of caramel, earthy pine and citrus hops to counter. A bit sweet, but I'm digging it.

Enjoyed at the brewery.

A - Poured a dark clearish brown with a thin head that fades to leave light wisps.

S - Aromas of light malts, caramel, light rye. Faint hops.

T - Taste is similar to the nose, loads of malts, strong caramel and malts. Faint hops.

M - Mouthfeel is lightly carbonated, bit watery.

O - Overall this beer was rather underwhelming. Mostly a malt bomb.

Light creamy head, little lacing, semi clear dark mahogany dark brown color.

Nose toasted reddish malts, biscuity brown malts, little sweet, little honey like character like honey malt, touch raw wort.

Taste again honey malt, into mild toasted brown biscuity note, creamy malt, into mild grassy spicy hop bitterness, little sticky malt, light phenols from yeast and hint of booze.

Mouth is med bod, decent but lighter carb.
