Cask service into a nonic glass at Brouwer's Cafe in Seattle.
Listed as having 5% abv on the restaurant menu

A: Slightly hazy, brassy golden color with over one finger of persistent white foam head. Heavy lacing remains on the glass.

S: Delicate floral and grapefruit citrus qualities suggest dry-hopping while a rather subtle cooked grain thread adds depth.

T: Begins sweet, with floral hops aromatics and toasty pale malt. Flavors begin to turn more dry during the middle but otherwise do not deviate. Oatmeal lends a savory refined graininess apart from the malt late in the profile, with sharp but narrowly-focused bitterness that lingers.

M: Thin to medium viscosity, wet and smooth on the palate, with low carbonation.

D/O: Hop-forward for the style, but not extreme in that regard, this pale ale is suited to cask service due to the subtle underlying sensory qualities that might go undetected were it consumed colder and more bubbly. It is far too sweet, but it has some nice unusual malt qualities that are easy to overlook.

Had on-tap at the brewery, which was a really cool spot. Unfortunately, this beer wasn't the best introduction.

Pours a bland yellow colour with some hazing. Slight filmy ring of white, some patchy lace. Fine carbonation through the very light body. Pretty standard stuff.

Slightly savoury, slightly meaty characters on the nose, with a slight grassy spiciness from the hops. It's not much though and feels a little insipid. But it's mild and smooth enough overall. It's just not very impressive.

Taste is similar, but it accentuates the good bits better. Spicy hop characters do make a more pronounced appearance, along with a bit of light, crisp lemon. There's a touch of bitterness on the finish. Feel is smooth and rather creamy, but doesn't have the corresponding sweetness required to round things out.

Overall, yeah it's OK. It's nothing particularly special, though.

On tap @ Brewforia Beer Market, Meridian ID. Poured into a pint glass. Not sure what to expect from an 'Oatmeal Pale'.

A: Pours clear straw with ample carbonation and a wispy white head. Looks like a pilsner.

S: Hop forward for sure; I'm getting pine, citrus, lemongrass, and grapefruit. Maybe whiffs of honey? From the malt possibly. Doesn't seem like there is any oatmeal here.

T: Again, hop forward with a nice grain backbone. Still no oatmeal, but the hops attack your tongue sharply and the malt bill has a nice presence. Besides a crisp green apple there is really not a lot of sweetness to be found here.

MF: Crisp. Maybe slightly creamier than one would expect from a light bodied pale, so the oatmeal may be a factor here. Definitely bitter and drying on the back end from the hops.

O: Don't expect too much, and you won't be disappointed. This is an APA, even an IPA. Really no oatmeal to be found, but a good, light, crisp, bitter summer beer nonetheless.

A: Poured a light golden color with good carbonation and a nice white cap

S: Some grains, floral hops, hint at bread

T: Well, if this were meant to have Oatmeal in it the beer was waaay off. Sure was no oatmeal here. Instead I got a rookies attempt at a APA. Pretty average taste, sordove grainy, light floral hops, some bread and light bitterness.

M: Light to medium body. A real snoozer.

O: Compared to other West Coast APA's this is a must miss. Not a terribly bad beer but c'mon guys. You have stiff competition.
