Appearance Nice, deep, cloudy orange in color with a decent head that left a little lacing. This one looks terrific.
Smell The sharp, floral and piney hops are well balanced with a big malt aroma. The malt is very buttery and spiced.
Taste This tastes exactly as it smells. The floral hops introduce the ale, but the big, sharp malt steals the show. Im initially picking up a lightly-toasted caramel-filled flavor, much like an Oktoberfest, followed by a dry bitterness and sweet apricots and honey. The honey especially is big at the finish.
Mouthfeel Really big for a Pale Ale, this one is on the heavier side of medium bodied and is very smooth and chewy.
Drinkability This was not your standard fare. I enjoyed it, but it wont be to everyones liking Im sure.
Update Ive had this at the JR so many times on-tap that I havent really bought a bottle of it in two years. I figured it was high time that I updated the review.
The beer today (10/20/05) is much as it was back in 2003. The head was much bigger and cascading though. It really left a nice film all up and down the inside of my pint glass, so Im raising the Appearance rating by half a point.

Nearly perfect pale ale in my opinion. Very great balance. Not a large malt character but enough. Perfect hop finish. Nice carbonation makes for a refreshing drinking experience. If one was looking for a sessionable beer that still holds a lot of character and is simple but interesting. Easily could be a go-to pale ale.
