Picked up in Chicago with no expectations. Great looking pour with the multi-layered head dark cream transitioning to brown which lasted the whole glass.
From those down in the Carolinas, this reminded me of Olde Hickory's Imperial Stout, which is brewed with honey.
This was really well done.

22oz, bottled on 7/5/2015
A - tall milk chocolate colored head slowly fades atop a thick black ale leaving some spotty lacing on the glass
S - sweet and malty nose with dark chocolate, caramel, roasted barley, brown sugar, booze
T - dark brown sugar, caramel, burnt caramel, toffee, roasted barley, dark chocolate, mild earthy hops in the background; cloyingly sweet at times
M - full body, ample carbonation, finishes more sweet than bitter, while being quite boozy
O - very sweet but very good with some nice flavors coming from the jaggery palm sugar. 1st try with this brewery and I went big - glad to try it!

Appearance – The beer leaned more toward brown than black with a whitish head.
Smell – The nose is a mostly nondescript sweetness.
Taste – My first impression is burnt sugar, beets, malts, and perhaps a little vanilla. The sweetness is a bit unusual, but not in a bad way. The aftertaste shows the sweetness mellowing and giving way to bitterness.
Mouthfeel – The profile is smooth with an impression of stickiness.
Overall – This quite different, and I like it.

If you like sweet stouts......this is your flagship....I've not tried a stout that was this sweet. The beer poured an opaque black with very thin brown head that did not lace. The scent had chocolate and a touch of roast. The taste was very sweet and caramelly.....chocolate being present as well. The mouthfeel was fuller in body with little carbonation. Overall it was quite nice....perfect sipping beer in the winter time.

Quite a nice and unexpected treat! A thick, viscous pour, pitch-black with fluffy, cocoa-colored head. Strong, roasted bitterness in the nose, with hints of smoke and raw sugar cane. Flavors are very well balanced, with dark baker's chocolate, blackstrap molasses, honey, wood pulp, thick malt, and touches of plum and date. I do agree with Bung's assessment that this is similar to Olde Hickory's Imperial Stout, but I would say that to me, it's most reminiscent of what Cuvee Delphine would be without the vinous, anise notes that Black Albert is known for. Actually quite impressive that this is so complex (and, to a lesser extent, so high ABV) without any sort of barrel ageing.

Gigantic sweet chocolate flavors. Imo seriously better then it's predecessor. Would love to see a barrel aged version of this one.
