Deep amber-orange in the Pilsner glass with a coarse, frothy head. Plenty of spritz on the tongue. Mouthfee is malty and a little slick. Aroma of fruitcake.

Some sweet bready taste with a lot of slightly toasted malt. Tangy with a modest hoppy bitterness. The hops have an herbal tang that is less usual in this kind of style. Quite a bitter and woody aftertaste, though it's not actually bad. While the sweetness lingers, it's a malty rather than sugary taste, and goes well with the quite restrained spice additives. None of the individual flavors stand out, which is a nice change from some of the nastier winter brews.

On the plus side, this has a pleasant warm, grainy, grittiness. It seems like exactly what I've come to expect from Pike. But it goes down easy and From the 22 oz bottle purchased at Central Market - Shoreline in north Seattle.

Poured into pint glass from bomber. Ruby-copper in color. Thick, tan head. Leaves incredible lace that trails slowly down the glass. It notes 4 spice ingredients but IMHO it was tough to pick up on any. Initial aroma was yeasty and hoppy. As I let the pint warm, I think I was getting more of the orange peel but still failed to pick up the other three. Piney hop flavor that registered a bit more bitter than the indicated 32 IBUs. Mouthfeel was average. Didn't really scream "holiday ale" for me.

Crisp and clear body: mahogany/clear honey/just a twinge of umber to the amber. Yeah buddy! Minimal head, decent swirls though and a bit of lacing.

The nose is toffee sweet with some fruity hints from the hops. Warm and round, smells doughy chewy: warmer-y.

Starts off with a decent caramel sweet balanced by a biting vinous green note. The backbone is more amber, and it's not as thick and chewy as I imagine my warmer's to be. There is certainly an earthy hoppy presence, but it is almost subdued heading into the back end. This makes it very very smoothe and drinkable, but it also leaves the sensation of lacking just a little bit. I'd definitely drink this one again, but wouldn't go out of my way for it.

Appearance: orangish brown color. a finger or so of a tannish head that fades to just a small lacing. pretty clear.

Smell: spice and hops. comes off extremely sweet and the flavors muddle together a bit

Taste: opens up with a flavor that is way too muddled up. sometimes there are hint of spices, and maybe a bit of a hoppiness, but again hard to tell. ends up extremely sweet spiced cookies.

Mouthfeel: fairly light and not warm at all. leaves a sweetness.

Overall: I am glad i split this bomber cause it was pretty close to a drain pour. lots of sweetness and to much going on to get any sort of footing.

Not especially stunning in the glass, orange and hazy with a fairly small head and not a lot of lace.

Aroma and flavor have a good mix of spices, pumpkiny notes, hoppiness (mainly floral), and a very ample and tasty malt backbone. While many winter warmers tend to be too high on the ABV and/or spices, this one certainly isn't. I rather enjoyed it, in fact.

Body was medium and carbonation was slightly on the low side but still within reasonable limits for the style. Actually, the one thing that stands out is that it's a bit pumpkin-esque for a winter warmer, but hey, when in Rome....

Bottle acquired for under $2 at a local Total Wine. 650ml brown glass bottle with branded pressure cap served into a Uinta pilsner glass in me gaff in low altitude Los Feliz, Los Angeles, California. Reviewed live. Expectations are below average. 5.50% ABV confirmed.

Served straight from the fridge. Side-poured with standard vigor as no carbonation issues are anticipated.

A: Pours a two finger beige colour head of fair cream, decent thickness, and average (~2 minute) retention for the average ABV. Body colour is a transparent copper-amber. Floating yeast particles are visible. No bubble show. Generally appealing. there's nothing unique or special here, but there are no overt flaws.

Sm: Cinnamon and nutmeg spice are the first thing I notice. Pumpkin. Biscuit malt. Generic floral hopping. A mild strength aroma. Maybe light bready yeast. No alcohol is detectable. Meh.

T: Pumpkin, light orange, and heavy cinnamon and nutmeg spice. Generic malted barley; biscuit malt. Caramel. It's a bit pedestrian, but enjoyable. Balanced decently. Not real complex or subtle, but there's flavour here. Depth of flavour is average. The spicing is a highlight. Clove. Biscuity yeast.

Mf: Smooth and wet. Adequately carbonated. Thickness is average. Generally suitable for the flavour profile, but it doesn't feel custom tailored to it.

Dr: Generally drinkable and enjoyable. Pedestrian. I definitely wouldn't get this again, but it's not bad - it's just mundane. Quite underwhelming. I'm glad to have tried it, but it's just not exceptional. It will satisfy winter warmer fans.

Appearance - Pours a semi-hazy, deep amber color with an off-white, finger width head. Fair retention. Nice, thin layer of head remains floating on the surface, while lacing on the glass is streaky/spotty with fair stick.

Smell - Aroma is full of holiday wonder; notes of nutmeg, orange, cinnamon and gingerbread abound, rounded out by a pleasant floral hop presence.

Taste - Follows the nose. Strong, toasted bread notes with the spice of cinnamon and nutmeg creates a gingerbread-like flavor upfront, while the hops come through mid-taste and strengthen near the finish, with character that ranges from orange rind to floral and grassy bitterness in the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel - Medium to full body, with moderate carbonation. Smooth. Finishes with a fair amount of dryness.

Overall - A good, solid Holiday brew. Nothing particularly original or noteworthy, but it's nice to drink on a cold, winter night.
