It had been about a year since I'd enjoyed a Pike IPA. A few year ago when I first sampled one I was very impressed. In the interim I'd had some OK representations (i.e. Thunderhead from Pyramid and Broken Halo from Widmer) and some pretty damn good ones (i.e. Inversion from Deschutes) - all NW beers. I'd place this product squarely with the latter. It separated itself from the mediocre ones by a great body/mouthfeel. Perhaps overly citrus-y BUT with a genuine body that provides an opportunity to enjoy that grapefruit favor...rather than have it wisk away from your tongue like a representation with less body (i.e. Thunderhead).
Great color, nice head, very enjoyable quaff with enough body to provide some staying power. Love this Pike!

I had this beer on-tap in a tall glass at the Alaskan Lounge at Sea-Tac Airport. My 2000th review!
Appearance: deep golden orange hue with a very light haze and a finger of creamy ivory foam leaving a nice lace on the glass. I like it.
Smell: caramelly and bready malt with an earthy, dank hop character. Pretty good, if earthy is your thing.
Taste: bready, ever so slightly biscuity malt with a dank, earthy hop character. Bitterness is pretty strong but it comes on slow. Not bad.
Mouthfeel: medium body with a good carbonation and a nice rocky creaminess. Pretty decent for an IPA.
Overall: a good-drinkin' dank and earthy IPA. Not always my bag, but it hits the spot well enough.

Appearance holds a hazy orange amber color supporting a fair head leaving fair lace. Smell has a nice malt backbone with citrus and floral hop aroma. Taste is balanced between the malt and hops leaving a lingering hop in the aftertaste. Mouthfeel is medium with good carbonation. A nice take on a PNW IPA.
