Pours a nice copper/orange with a thin head that is gone pretty quickly, aroma is soft and fruity with a light alcohol note that lingers.Taste is fruity in the start with an alcoholic warming aspect to it,I noticed a hoppy dryness in the finish.Seems a bit thin for the style but flavorful I would try it again though.

Appearance – Dark orange in color and thick. The head was nice as well, pitting into little puddles on top of the body and leaving a little lacing.

Smell – The caramel malt aroma is smooth and pleasant. I’m not catching a lot of scotch, though.

Taste – The scotch taste is there, but very light. It’s also very smooth, which is something you often don’t find when sampling this style. This one also has some powdery pepper spicing to it.

Mouthfeel – A little thinner than I had hoped, but the smoothness makes up for it.

Drinkability – I don’t know if I’ll be “lifting my kilt” after one of these, but it sure was tasty.

Had this on tap at Pike. Nothing real special, just average. There wasn't anything that stood out positive or neg. Would have liked more ABV. I compare it to Oskar Blues Old Chub without the 8%.

12 oz. brown long neck bottle with a freshness date on the back.

Appearance: Tawny leathery amber colour holding some haze, enticing head has a stable retention.

Smell: Big sweetness with a very faded smoke, light fruity alcohol and caramel malt twang.

Taste & Mouthfeel: Layered smoothness with a creamy slickness. Solid malty palate, sweetness plays off the toasted grain and medium hoppiness. Suggestions of fruit punch, earthy yeast and caramel in the back. Slightly warming alcohol. Hit of citric rind in the end? Handful of residual sweetness in the end combats the semi-think hop flavour in the end.

Notes: Smaller in stature than most Scotch Ales I have had, a decent strong amber that was easy on the palate with a balanced malt and hop.

On tap poured into a sampling glass.

Pours a deep mahogany brown with no head less a small rim. Nose is smokey and sweet.

Taste is really nice, more sweet than smokey like most but it's more approcable and easy drinking. Carbonation is light and the Mouthfeel is smooth and crisp making this very easy drinking.

This is a nice basic ale that doesn't try too hard and would be appealing to the masses as a gateway beer. With it's price, I always have high expectations for this beer. I want to like it more. It's a good beer, but the quality does not line up with the price point.

Color is a nice orange almond with very minimal lacing after the first pour. Smell is not really there, but not bad either--light sweetmess and yeastiness. Taste is amazingly similar--not assertive in any way. Bready, biscuity, brown sugar, maybe some noble hops but not much on the bitter side at all, which is expected for Scotch ales. The amazing thing is how well the alcohol is masked and how easy it is to drink it.

Mouthfeel is pretty light and I would like something with a bit more heft, especially if this is doing all but claiming that it is a wee heavy.

Brown and auburn colors in the pour, not much head at all, even though the beer ended up being plenty carbonated, left me wondering though, why is there lace left on a beer with almost no head? I digress. Woody aroma, sweet, smoky, nice.

More wood tannin grittiness and sweetness on the palate. Didn't catch the smokiness at this point. Warming effect of alcohol. More drinkable than average for style. A little nuttiness and caramel thrown in for good measure. More like a hybrid or leaning toward an amber ale/winter warmer type situation.

Poured from a bottle. Dark red in color with light brown head. Cereal grain aroma with a hint of hops. Taste is a good blend of cereal grains, malt and a mix of hops. A bit of bitterness in the aftertaste. Mouthfeel is good. Overall beer is great.

Deep caramelized sugar color with a light haze to it. It's not chunky or opaque but it's getting close to it. The head is a disappointment. It was off white but it faded before I even finished pouring the beer.

The smell is weak and not just for the style, it's weak for any beer. Some malt and hops but not enough to really decipher the ingredients.

Taste is slightly better then the nose but not by much. I wish I could give it a 3.3 instead of a 3.5 because it really doesn't deserve it. The substance of this flavor is warm grains but like the nose they are weak and not really discernible. There is an herbal flavor that has similarities with the medicinal flavor of a menthol cough drop mixed with chlorinated city water. I'm not a fan.

The mouthfeel is the strongest part of this beer but given the track record of this one that's not saying much. The residual sweetness from the taste lasts into the finish and actually is refreshing. It's medium bodied, slightly creamy and has a nice small carbonation that makes it drinkable. However the flavor is something I find boring and average which makes me not want to finish it, so I will have to pass this one by the next time I see it.

Nice dark amber color with red and gold hues peeking through in the light. No head, no real cap and not much lacing to speak of, maybe just a hint of tan and white floating in there. The smell is a sweet caramel-like scent. Not too complex. Some smokey tones linger there too. The taste was very much on the sweet side, but had a nice little spicey, smokey bite to it. Again though, not too complex. Light to medium bodied with a mildly carbonated mouthfeel. Goes good with the food at the pub, but I wouldn't necessarily be looking for this one otherwise.

This one seems only a bit above a scotish but not quite a wee heavy.

Pours a golden amber with a decent head that sticks around for a long time.

Aromas are Dark brown sugars and caramel.

Flavor is lightly toasted malt with light brown sugar sweetness and a bit of a caramel finish. Very, very light bitterness on the tailend.
Overall, a very balance, although not terribly complex, brew.
