Bomber into a snifter. The brew appears black in color with a finger of creamy brown head sitting atop. As the cap slowly fades, it leaves a wall of lacing effect sticking to the glassware. A light swirl revives the brown froth atop the brew. When held to the light, some faint brown clarity is noted around the edges.

The smell of this offering is roasty with burnt grain indications that give off a scent of black licorice. More smells reveal a touch of dark coffee and chocolate with a bit of a citrus element to the backend of the nose. As the brew warms up, a bit of dark fruity sweetness and alcohol are noticed.

The taste is bitter and roasty from the level of char to the grain. It imparts a almost char flavor across the tongue reminiscent of high % bitter cacao. Some earthy roast elements mingle with a bit of citrus hops and fruity alcohol notes towards the back. At times a light grain flavor is noted outside of the expected burnt flavoring which adds a subtle change of pace. The aftertaste includes a bit of tobacco, leather and anise.

This is a medium bodied brew with a moderate amount of carbonation. Overall a solid package that is worth the price of admission. I think I picked this up for something like 5 bucks while traveling (something pretty much unheard of in PA.) I would get this again if the opportunity presented itself. It is a solid take on the style.

Poured a dark amber chocolate brown with a half inch creamy head into a standard pint glass.

Aroma is sweet with coffee and hop notes.

Taste immediately gives the impression of strong hops in this stout. Sweet coffee favors that mesh well with the hoppiness.

Very smooth and not at all watery. Almost just right.

Solid stout overall that I would revisit again and again

Purchased a bottle back in 2009 and have had in my cellar until this evening. Drinking it tonight to celebrate two years of home ownership. Poured into a Great Divide Yeti stout tulip glass. Dark brown colored body, with a medium sized mocha colored head. The head dissipated soon, but left some nice lacing on the glass. There was a pleasant smell of smoke and baker's chocolate. Taste was very inviting. Lots of notes of coffee, chocolate cake, and root beer. At first though, this beer left a somewhat too harsh bitter coating on my palate. But as the beer warmed up to almost near room temp, that seemed to fade away. There was a nice and creamy mouthfeel at the end. This beer held up nicely for almost two years in the beer cellar, and it would be worth purchasing more at this low price point.
