22 oz. bottle. Pours a pitch black color with a creamy tan head, good lacing. Aroma is a bunch of roasted malts, coffee, sweet chocolate, a hint of charred wood, and a slight hint of citrus. Flavor is roasted malts, sweet chocolate, citrus, and a hint of smoke. Mouthfeel is full to medium, creamy, with a dry and heavy bitter finish. Good stout.

This is the first beer from Pike I've had even though I've seen their bomber line in the local beer store several times over the last couple years.

I am pleased to say I'm impressed, in fact-overtly so. I was expecting a good beer not a great beer and I got a motherfu**ing bad assed beer. Great Black color with a Dark brown head containing different shades of caramel hues. Good lace and powerful taste after an above average black malty, roasty, chocolate-coffee head. Taste is very satisfying with roasted barley and black malt giving birth to the supreme espresso but mostly dark chocolate flavor that is bitter from the semi-sweet chocolate and also from the hops. I just now bumped the smell to a 4.5 because every time I go to take a drink the smell hits my nose first like a beer containing nanotechnology designed to offer the perfect beer tasting experience. I'm close to giving taste a 5. Fantastic mouthfeel that is heavy, chewy, silky and creamy at once. Bitterness like that which this beer offers only makes the finish much longer and allows the outstanding stout character to linger more often than usual. World class Stout!

Pour very dark brown to black, virtually opaque, with no more than a hint of ruby around the edges. Large dark brown head retains very well, leaving strings of lace down the edges of the glass.

Aromas of dark roasted malt, coffee, with some burnt character. Some dark fruits sneak through in the background. No hop aroma to speak of.

Flavor is grainy, with dark roast and coffee. Little bit of a burnt grain finish, with a nice lingering bitterness.

Medium-full body, with moderate carbonation. Smooth, creamy, maybe slightly chewy. Overall a very roasty stout. On the low end of ABV for the style, so no real warming or other alcohol presence is evident. If I had to cite a negative, I think a bit more body and creaminess would make this a really outstanding brew. Very drinkable, and with relatively low ABV could be good for more than one in a sitting.

Thank you to a dear old friend for leaving this with me.

Poured an opaque black hue with a nice khaki head that laced well down glass.

Sweet and a hint of sour, is this an export extra stout? Well, Unsweet chocolate coffee and a sour note dominates in a good way.

Very creamy and coffee like, some unsweet chocolate notes as well.

Seems a bit thin, but I am drinking this at room temp. 68 degrees.

Well, I must say this is a good beer, not familiar with the brand but hey good none the less.

Beer looks great poured in a pint glass. It is jet black, with maybe only a shade of the darkest brown when held up to the light, but you'd have to look real hard to find it. The head is an off-white, tan color that dissipates and leaves a nice lacing.

It smells like dark chocolate, raisins, chocolate covered cherries, plums, hints of tobacco, and cocoa. The beer tastes very cocoa-like. It is a very thick bodied beer and has a bit of grainy taste on the end of it, kind of like tasting dry instant cocoa mix. I love it though. There are dark fruit flavors towards the end of the taste and it leaves you with a toasted sweet taste, almost like a roasted marshmallow.

It has a silky mouthfeel, but not too sweet, and is incredibly drinkable.

This beer pours jet black, 100% opaque with a nice amount of creamy tan head that lingers for a while and leaves a pretty fair amount of lacing too.

On the nose there is a rich, sweet chocolatey smell that I pick up on immediately followed by a less prevalent but equally rich roasted coffee smell along with the malts. This beer just smells awesome.

Flavor wise, it has an unsweetend chocolate flavor and a roasted coffee quality to it, there is virtually no hoppyness, nothing like that, the malts are what make the flavor. The roastyness is more prevalent at the end though, it almost has a nutty quality to it.

This beer is pretty thick and has low carbonation, plus an aftertaste I really enjoy, it finishes on the watery side though, but the extremely low carbonation levels are also awesome.

Mine is 6.6% abv though...

jet black color and a really nice espresso crema dark head. it looks amazing just in the glass.

nose has nice sweetness and licorice w/ roasted notes

taste is excellent and full with very rich body of roasted malts and a very nice sweetness to balance this beer. Very complex and hint of licorice and candied malt.

wow what a great stout and worth the $6 bomber price i paid.

this brew is top notch

A - Pours almost and dark as used motor oil, with a mild sepia-colored head, and leaves moderate, but creamy lacing.

S - Smell is of roasted espresso, with hints of cocoa, molasses, and caramel. The smell is a bit tame for a beer of this ABV, but what is there is enjoyable.

T - This stout delivers the goods in taste though! Rich, chewy chocolate-like malts, with hints of caramel, molasses, even some vanilla, all balanced by moderate coffee-like bitterness. The malty side isn't shy about showing itself here though.

M - Thick, chewy mouthfeel, and mild, creamy carbonation make for a great sipper.

O - Overall, one of Pike's better offerings I'd say. A great dessert/nightcap/cold day kind of beer.

Poured in a goblet and developed a one half inch head, good lacing all around the glass. Roasted coffee and chocolate hit my nose; the taste is as if I am drinking strong unsweetened coffee with chocolate added. I like it, it leaves a bitter after taste that some might dislike. HOG

poured from a 22oz into a schnifter. pours like crude oil from a leaky old rusted steel 5 gallon drum.beautiful. a thick black with two fingers of rich brown head that disappears slowly and leaves tons of lacing.

smell is mostly a mixture of chocolate and espresso heavily roasted. not even a hint of alchohol.

taste is a tad thinner than i was hoping for with a name like xxx stout but still very satisfiying. a nice full malt flavor that doesnt overwhelm. once again no alchohol heat here.

mouthfeel is an expected sticky. puts you in that stout mindset.

3.99 for a 22oz of a full flavored stout thats 7% abv. you can do the math. for a beer baron on a budget this is one of the most drinkable beers out there.

Poured from a bomber into a Guinness tulip pint.

Very dark with a dark tan head that lasts a few minutes before settling down to a thin film of bubbles. Very nice appearance.

The first thing that hits me as I lift the glass to my nose is a strong hit of vanilla and coffee with plenty of high roast malt.

Taste is both sweet and bitter with a delicious dry finish. A touch of liquorice maybe, with dark fruits, tobacco, more coffee... there's a lot going on here but it's not messy and all over the place - it works together very well.

Mouthfeel is good. Not great, just good, and none the worse for it. I could easily drink a few of these in an evening and feel thoroughly satisfied. I like it.
