OMG, is this ever a great beer!
Had it on-tap at Hop-In Brew (Nov. 16th).

The darkest brown head (on a pitch black stout) that I have ever encountered.
Roasted malt aroma is heavenly.
Flavors come at you fast and furious. It's malty, it's smoky, it's caramel, it's....absolutely delicious.
My only complaint was that, because the higher alcohol level, I couldn't have more than one and still drive home that night.

A - Pours almost and dark as used motor oil, with a mild sepia-colored head, and leaves moderate, but creamy lacing.

S - Smell is of roasted espresso, with hints of cocoa, molasses, and caramel. The smell is a bit tame for a beer of this ABV, but what is there is enjoyable.

T - This stout delivers the goods in taste though! Rich, chewy chocolate-like malts, with hints of caramel, molasses, even some vanilla, all balanced by moderate coffee-like bitterness. The malty side isn't shy about showing itself here though.

M - Thick, chewy mouthfeel, and mild, creamy carbonation make for a great sipper.

O - Overall, one of Pike's better offerings I'd say. A great dessert/nightcap/cold day kind of beer.

On tap poured into a sampling glass.

Pours a dark. Black with a creamy dark brown head, very nice. Nose is malty and smoky.

Taste, like the nose, is smokey and rich, chocolate and coffee come through as w ll. Mouthfeel is light and dry with a light finish.

drank this brew last night with a buddy, I aquired it from a trade from a very kind girl on the other wedsite. She throw this one in as an extra and boy am I happy she did. This beer was poured from a 22oz bomber into a darkness snifter. It pours a motor oil black with a thick light brown head. This beer looks super thick and smells great like chocolate and dried fuits. After about a minute the head finally subsided enough to drink it. The smell and the look was gerat but the taste was just ok. I was expecting a big robust beer and it was kinda on the lighter side. The mouthfeel was good nothing too exciting, but still an over all good drinking brew

Finally getting around this one after sitting in my fridge for a few months. On to the beer:

Black as night as it sits in the Lucifer branded snifter. There's a thick tanned head that's a finger's thick, and it leaves plenty of lacing around the glass. The nose shows excitment, led by some chocolate liqueur, then followed by a kick of piney hops and cocoa powder. It's a fun nose.

The taste turnns out to be more fun than the nose, which is saying something. Score-wise, it's right between the 4 and 4.5. Subtle hickory smoke hides beneath this yo-yo of hops and chocolate. The hops seem to be more "juicy" than piney though. Some burnt and unsweetened choclolate linger in the aftertaste. Its rich and smooth body are appreciated, which gives the impression that that it may be an imperial stout, but its listed 7% ABV would make it closer to export stout territory.

However you view it, this is a delicious stout that would make a great treat for dessert, or even to make custom chocolate sauce.

Poured into an imperial pint glass. Color was a very dark opaque brown, with a nice two finger mocha brown head. Head lasted 10 minutes or so before leaving some random clinging on the sides. Remaining head clung well, but slid back down quickly. Aroma was strongly of a milky slightly dark chocolate, with small hints of an oaky wood in the back. Flavor was slightly sweet, with a tail end of bitter. Predominant was a slightly watered down milky chocolate. Not a bad flavor, but a bit understated. Felt good in the mouth. Coated well, and perfectly carbonated. A very mellow well balanced sip. Overall a decent stout. I have had better for the price, but not a bad beer.

grabbed a 22 oz of this from the Safeway near the Junction in West Seattle last month a couple of days after I moved here, pouring it now.

A: 1/2" brown sugar head, lacing that runs and hides when tilted, black as the night is long. absolutely no light penetrates this beer.

S: hickory, cocoa, vanilla, hazelnut, cherries. robust and intense with a sweetness hovering over, makes one eager to try.

T: mocha latte. no lie. good stout, not too sweet nor too bitter. on the other hand, the after taste has the waning around of flat coke and paint thinner. month too long to wait?

M: pretty flat and dry, robust eagerness fades away quickly. by the time you take another sip you realize the taste that lingers in your mouth is what you just put back inside to wash it away...flimsy character, short life.

O: wantaway stout that remains local because of it's ill-perceived stance in a relatively competitive category.

Purchased at the pike brewery downtown seattle.

Average stout. Tastes good. Nothing amazing, but solid beer. A little thin for my tastes. Enjoyable to drink. Problem is, it reminds me of 50 other stouts sitting on the shelf, it just doesn't stand out as a special beer. I'm glad I tried it, and the brewery was a pretty neat place.

overall, it packs a nice amount of flavor for a "single" stout.

This pours dark, thick jet black motor oil with a fat, creamy dark tan head that sticks around a lont time leaving great walls of thick lacing. The smell is of roasted malts, robust coffee, bitter dark chocolate, and earthy hops. The taste follows with tons of roasted flavor, bitter coffee and a slight semi-sweet chocolate flavor in the middle. Finishes dry with a mouthfull of earthy and floral hops balanced with a roasty after breath. Nicely balanced, creamy and thick on the mouth. Simple, dry and balanced stout. Easy to drink and very enjoyable.

Appearance: Pours a nice 60w Motor oil Black, Small Tan Head, leaves Nice Lacing.

Smell: Roasted Malt, Chocolate, Coffee and a slight woody note.

Taste: Awesomeness in a Bottle, Chocolate Malt, Bittersweet Dark Chocolate and Coffee flavors, as with the smell a slight woody note is present in the taste, Great Balance of flavors. Taste very good at Fridge Temp, but gets better as it warms. Alcohol is not really noticable of a 7% ABV.

Mouthfeel: Full Body and very Nice, but not overly heavy. Very Balanced.

Drinkability: Very Drinkable, not a session beer at 7% ABV. A 22oz bomber goes down very easily.

Bomber, poured into tumbler..

Dark brew, opaque with brown/mocha head on it, very small head but lacing won't quit. Smell is delightful of dark malts, caramel, roastiness, possibly some coffee/chocolate notes. The taste is good, hits you up front with everything from the nose, finishes crisp and the carbonation is solid. Mouthfeel is not too thick, not thin/crisp, but definitely a happy medium..

Enjoi!

This stout was nice and dark with a medium head but lacing that lasted the whole way down.

I got a lot of charred wood and coffee and roasted malt on the nose. Exactly what I was expecting.

The taste followed the nose exactly but was much more pronounced than the nose.

Overall I think this style gets overlooked and quite often overly complicated. Pike did a perfect job of brewing a very solid American Stout. Too often the ABV, hops, additional flavors etc etc try to complicate an already great style. Pike kept it simple and perfect. Well done!

Not very black, somewhat of a muddy brown. Decent roasted aroma. Strong anise smell as well as dark chocolate and espresso. Great blend of flavors-strong roasted presence with a very long and lingering licorice presence. The anise is quite upfront but not unpleasant. Powdery cocoa sort of flavor. Nice mouthfeel-prety much in line for the style and abv. A LOT going on in this beer at only 7%. I have not seen Pike beers for several years and for the asking price this is a great beer. Looking forward to the next one in my fridge.

Pours with mellow head and thick white lacing.
Smells of wood and coffee.
Taste is rich with coffee, licorice and malt.
Overall a good stout from Seattle Pike Pub and Brewery, has a good full flavour with a complimentary alcohol content that is not overpowering. The licorice is quite evident and personally I have never been a huge fan of licorice but the flavour with the strong coffee works for me.
Good beer Pike, look forward to trying others.
