One of many (over the years) bottles had at a Thai restaurant. Pours a light straw color, a bit darker than most adjunct lagers (this is all-malt), with a lot of white foam. Aroma of malty bread, some grassy/herbal noble-type hops and a whiff of skunk. Overall this beer is very malty, grainy, and bitter, with just a little residual sweetness. Sourdough malt predominates but there is a little hop spice and a fairly dextrinous body. There is a hint of apple but the finish is dry and bitter. A classic pale Euro lager flavor and much less sweet than most mainstream examples of the style. Fewer flaws as well, although there is a little metal and skunk on the palate. Great with spicy curries and stir fried chilli and basil chicken, and has more character than its countryman Chang.

Enjoyed with a nice Thai meal; poured out of the bottle into a pint glass.

It pours a super clear light yellow with a small white head and vigorous carbonation. There's a Caro syrup smell all too reminiscent of an Icehouse Lager, with some clean pale malts and a hint of lemon. Tasting it, I get sweet malt, bland soggy grains, and as it warms up, an extremely bitter metallic taste on the back end. It's no wonder they served this in a frozen pint glass. Goes down fizzy with a watery, light body.

Purchased at the LCBO for around $14.00 6pk of 330ml bottles. Served at 6deg C in a draught glass.

A- Ok. Opens well pours clear and light gold. Not much head after 10sec

S- Not much here at all

T- Ok at best. Lots of carbonation. Little aftertaste. Light on hops and malt. Light on taste.

M- Nothing special but ok. Lots of carbonation keeps this beer alive.

O- Feels like Thailand's Bud or Blue. Mass produced without a lot of character

Food Pairing

This light beer pairs well with anything you would like to have with a Bud.

Overall, a mild but pleasant beer. It reminded me of a Budweiser but with actual flavor and not watery. There's a nice, buttery like smoothness to this beer. And obviously it pairs well with spicy Thai food. The next time I'm at a Thai restaurant, I might have to get a bottle or two with my meal.

11.2 fl oz. bottle, with FILL 060313 EXP 060314 printed on the back label. I found this oddity at the local Binny's as part of a mixed six pack. "The original Thai beer since 1933". My first beer from Thailand. Expectations are average based on the style.

Poured into a miniature pint glass with Victorian carriage artwork.

A - Pours the typical clear lager gold yellow with lots of big carbonation bubbles floating topside. Three big fluffy fingers of bone white foam for a head. It's okay for what it is.

S - The smell is comprised of the usual grainy / corny / husky adjunct maltiness. Dusty, papery, and some artificial syrupy sort of sweetness in the background. Not an appealing aroma.

T - I guess the taste is the standard import lager fare - soggy grains, corn / huskiness, a bit of sweetness, and a sharp metallic bite on the finish.

M - The feel is crisp and clean, light sweetness / graininess lingering on the palate. Some might say it has a light bitterness to it on the finish, also. Light-bodied with good moderate carbonation.

Overall, it's the typical easy-drinking lager fare, similar to other imports I have had from India. I wouldn't seek it out again, but I would surely drink it if the occasion was right. Glad to have tried it, and I look forward to trying more of these strange import lagers.

Singha ---3/5.
