A traditional German Hefeweizen in its core, but with the addition of fresh coconut flakes for a taste of South Florida and its beautiful surrounding beaches.

Cloudy dirt blonde body with a finger of off-white foam. Wheat, coconut, and yeast nose. Taste is sharp with wheat yet yeast is way bigger, too much, coconut and lemon is mild. Feel is yeasty and wheaty, sharp and thin after this initial strike. Doesn’t have the definition you want

Poured into a weizen glass. Pours a hazy brownish gold with a slightly fizzy, two finger white head that starts to dissipate but then settles into a persistent half finger head. Aroma of wheat malt, lemon, a hint of clove and a touch of coconut (but only because I knew it was there). Flavor is bready wheat malt, coconut, and a touch of lemon; the coconut is edged out in the finish by light banana. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess; more body than most hefes. I'm a big traditional hefeweizen fan and any additives (including lemon wedges) are not something I'd seek out, but this sounded interesting. The coconut actually works out well, most likely because it is lightly used, but it is enough to mask some of the classic flavors until the finish. Hard to rate this to style, but gets good scores for flavor and interest. I like a envelope pushing beer that works out well. Lots of flavor for the ABV.

I like the can artwork, great use of color. The pour is a hazy orange color with a head that dissipates rather quickly & that's usually not a good sign. The taste is orange, soft banana, & some coconut flakes near the finish. The beer sort of has a pina colada vibe going on, I can see myself relaxing on Miami Beach with a pint of this by my side. There is no date on the can but it says that I should drink it fresh, their are some Einstein's over there at this brewery. All in all, wheat beers are one of my favorite style & this one does not disappoint but it can use some more of the coconut flakes. Oh well It was Cheers! B-

ugly massive head bubbles.... dissipating to oily, film-y remnants. typical richy clove-y aroma... taste is meh.... a little rich. an Underberg might resolve this.... kinda getting the coconut

Can to rocks glass.
Lightly hazy light orange color. Small offwhite head. Very good retention.
Nose is wheat, yeast, orange, qhite grape.
Taste is citrus, light wheat, light coconut.
Light to medium body. Smooth.
Very refreshing, well crafted. Nose is a touch weak and coconut is minute.

Ordinarily the description of a coconut hefeweizen would be more than enough for me to pass it by.
Maybe it was because I've never had a J. Wakefield beer before. Maybe it was that it is ranked as the #39 hefeweizen on this site (as an aside, what does it say about us collectively when a flavored hefe is ranked in the top 50? And, if I examined the rest of the top 50, I'd probably find more. Nevermind,.. Just musing...).
Whatever, here it is, in my refrigerator.
The aroma brings the banana, along with bubblegum, and, surprisingly, just hints of the coconut. Subtle touch. Nice. As the head fades, the coconut does become stronger, but never over the top.
The body is amber-yellow, a bit hazy, heavily carbonated, topped with a billowing white head with only moderate retention (down to a 1/4 inch in a few minutes, in fact) leaving spotting lacing down the glass.
All of what was in the aroma is in the taste, of course, but the balance tilts toward the coconut. The base hefeweizen yeast flavors are still there, but are subordinate to the coconut. The overall balance is a tropical character to the hefe, just as promised by the brewer. No bitterness at all. The finish and aftertaste are sweet, with the coconut lingering. Dumping the final dregs from the can (yeast) into the beer changes the look, as you'd expect, but it has not much of an effect on the flavor.
The body tends to the thin side of moderate, and the mouth feel is smooth.
Overall, an interesting tropical hefeweizen. I am enjoying it, but it is just a bit too sweet for me.
