Thanks to RipRap for this extra that arrived in a recent trade. Having overdosed on big black barrelly crap the last several days, I’m in the mood for a change. Especially since Stout Bout awaits on Saturday evening. 750ML bottle split with my wife.
The pour is high cirrus clouds over the sun yellow, lightly carbed. The smell is overflowing with orange & citrus, which I’m going to attribute to the never-glimpsed yuzu fruit (I assume it’s a fruit & not an exotic emu subspecies). Lively.
The Messenger is much better than that other messenger I sampled not long ago. The taste follows so closely in the footsteps of the nose you’d think this was a one-footed ass-kicking contest: big notes of citrus & orange, but with a sharpness that tells you this isn’t solely hop-inflicted. The middle brings a strong sense of pale malts & light sweetness, with a low-slung bitterness. Easy to drink.
Closer to my sense of a pale than an IPA, the unique fruit addition lends it a different edge. A good, solid brew.

Poured into a Stone tulip glass. Pours a medium golden amber with copper notes and a big three finger white head with good retention and lots of lacing, looks nice. Aroma of pale and light caramel malt, aromatic citrus hops with hints of pine,, lemon and orange citrus, mildly estery and fresh. Flavor follows with a moderate, but supportive light caramel malt base and really fresh and aromatic lemon and orange notes along with a great blend of herbal citrus hop flavors. The yuzu juice used here is really deftly handled and melds excellently with the hops, estery with fresh citrus fruit notes, but blended with the citrus hop bitterness. I bought this mainly to try something from Noble, but this is actually brewed by Three Weavers (who I have enjoyed before), and although I did not get to check off a new brewery, this has been the high point of my beers so far here in California. I really liked this one a lot. A great citrus IPA and use of fruit adjunct.

750 mL bottle poured into a snifter.
Appearance - Light orange. Clear. Medium white head.
Smell - Strong yuzu aroma. Full disclosure: I've only had yuzu in beers, so that's all I know about it, but this smells like the yuzu I've smelled in other beers. Like a bright tart orange. Some pale malt.
Taste - Less intense on the yuzu, but it's there. A little lemony. Orangey. Like a tangerine, but more... yuzu-y. Low bitterness. Pilsner malt in the finish.
Mouthfeel - Medium body. Medium carbonation.
Overall - The yuzu is interesting, but it doesn't elevate it that much.

750ml bottle.
Yellow, thin white head that fades fast. Soft carbonation.
Citrus aroma, orange, light pine, which continues in the flavor with the orange more pronounced. Light initial sweetness and moderate bitterness, nicely balanced. A bitter finish with moderate duration.
Light oily texture works well with the medium light body.
Overall, this is a very good IPA.
